NOVEMBER 1918

Fri. Nov. 1st. Clear and a very little frost in morn but didn't kill anything and a pleasant day. Willie and hands picked peas and Willie hauled them late in eve. I brought some potatoes and tomatoes from field in morn and hilled some onions in new garden.

Sat. 2nd. Clear and a very little frost in morn but didn't kill anything. Willie rode Daisie and sold some cattle to Wiley in morn and rode her to town and returned at dusk. I hilled onions on W side of new garden in morn and finished them.

Sun. 3rd. Bright and very cool in morn and warmer and some clouds in eve. All home all day but Carmel and Marion. They have been at Wiley's since last Thu.

Mon. 4th. Bright and cool in morn and warmer in eve from SE. Willie and Ross pulled corn in morn and hauled 2 loads in eve. Carmel and Marion returned from Wiley's at 12 1/2. I brought some yams and tomatoes from field in morn.

Tue. 5th. Bright, nearly clear, and pleasant. Willie and Marion and Ross pulled corn in morn and hauled in 2 loads in eve. Some hands picked peas today and Willie didn't haul them in eve for lack of time. I hoed some turnips in new garden in morn.

Wed. 6th. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie and Marion pulled and hauled in 2 loads of corn today and hauled peas which hands picked late in eve. I brought some yams from field and dug a few Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Thu. 7th. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie and Marion pulled and hauled in a load of corn in morn. Little Wiley came in morn and Minnie and Carl went back with him in eve. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished all with dead tops (more than half of patch are too green to dig). Marion rode Buck to town in eve to get a late paper.

Fri. 8th. Bright but cloudy and warm from S. Willie and Marion pulled corn in morn and Dud and Willie hauled it and peas in eve. I brought some yams from field in morn and a few Irish potatoes which I dug in W patch in field. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Clarence Fugler's burying in eve and returned after dark.

Sat. 9th. It began to rain slowly at daylight in morn and lasted till 12 and changed to N and quit and cool all eve from N. We did nothing in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and returned after dark.

Sun. 10th. Bright and very cool from N. Willie drove Buck to Mrs. James in morn and brought Minnie and Carl back with him at 8 1/2 in night and Luster and Lucile came with them.

Mon. 11th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from N. Willie and Marion and Luster James went bird hunting in morn and returned at 3 in eve and Luster left for home late in eve. I dug some yams in field in morn. Dud and some hands picked peas today in Willie's peas.

Tue. 12th. Bright, nearly clear, and a little frost in morn but didn't seem to kill vegetation and pleasant after 10 in morn. Willie and Marion and Dud pulled corn in morn and hauled in the last of corn in eve and a load of peas late in eve. I dug the patch of Irish potatoes in field in morn and got about 1 bu in all.

Wed. 13th. Bright, nearly clear, and a little frost in morn but didn't seem to kill vegetation. Willie rode Buck and Dud drove wagon to town in morn and returned late in eve. I dug some yams in field in morn and dug 2 buckets Irish potatoes in old garden by 11 1/2.

Thu. 14th. Bright, but cloudy, and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud and Marion repaired fence around big field most of day. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Fri. 15th. Cloudy and a damp wind from S and began to rain slowly at 3 in eve and lasted all night and hard part of time - a big fall of water in all. Willie and Marion and Dud dug Dud's potatoes and planted patch in field in morn and dug those in patch N of here in eve. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn after cleaning out potatoe room.

Sat. 16th. Cloudy and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 12 and we had a big rain and hard wind and some thunder till 1 and sun shined some in eve and began to rain again from W late in eve and lasted till late in night - a big fall of water in all. Marion drove our mules and wagon and Wiley his wagon and carried 2 loads of potatoes to Wiley's today. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. I picked up and packed in 3 bbls of potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Sun. 17th. Bright, nearly clear, and very windy from N of W all day and very cool. Luster James and Mattie came at 1 1/2 in eve and Luster left after supper and Mattie stayed. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 18th. Bright, nearly clear, and a very cool wind from NW all day and frost at night. Wiley and Dud hauled 2 bales of cotton to gin in morn and got Wiley's cotton ginned and returned at sunset. Carmel and Marion went to school in morn - first time in a month. Willie and I cut up wood and picked up some potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Tue. 19th. Bright, nearly clear, and frost in morn but didn't kill vegetation only scorched it a little. Willie cut and stripped grinding cane today. Wiley and Dud carried 2 loads of Wiley's cotton and all to gin in morn. Dud returned with one wagon and team at sunset. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished last of them.

Wed. 20th. Bright, but cloudy some, and chilly early in morn but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud cut and stripped cane all day. I hunted a young sow supposed to have pigs in cow pasture in morn after getting wood and water for Leah to wash but I didn't find the sow.

Thu. 21st. Cloudy and no sun and began to rain slowly at 9 in morn and got harder and lasted till 12 and very cool and cloudy from NW and lasted all eve and night too. Willie and Dud stripped and cut cane till 9 1/2 in morn. Willie and I put our 4 horses in field late in eve.

Fri. 22nd. Cloudy and no sun and began to rain slowly at daylight from E of N and lasted all day and part of night and very chilly from E of N. We did nothing but attend the stock and get wood. Wiley left here late in eve leaving Ned for home.

Sat. 23rd. Cloudy and chilly from E of N all day and rained a little in early part of night and cleared off. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. We cut up wood early in morn and I put sacks over my peppers early in morn to keep it from freezing but it didn't quite freeze at night.

Sun. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and cold in morn but didn't quite freeze and warmer in eve. All went to SS in eve and Mattie and Lucile too except Nellie and I.

Mon. 25th. Cloudy and began to rain slowly at 2 in eve and chilly too and got harder and lasted balance of eve and all night. Willie and Dud hauled cane and wood to mill in morn and some in eve and Wiley put up mill and Willie drove wagon to schoolhouse in rain for Lucile and Charles and Carl in eve. Mrs. James came in eve and here all night. I brought the sacks in from over my pepper in old garden and shelled some okra seed in morn.

Tue. 26th. Cloudy and no sun and dropped and drizzled rain most of day. Willie hauled cane and wood to mill most of day and Wiley cooked molasses in eve. I walked in field in morn to see about horses.

Wed. 27th. Cloudy and no sun and rained most of day and blew up from NW at 9 at night and quit. We did nothing but get wood and attend the stock.

Thu. 28th. Bright, nearly clear, and wind very cool from NW. Willie hauled cane and wood to mill most of day and finished all and Wiley ground and cooked molasses all day. I got wood for Ruth to wash and cut up good deal of wood in morn and shelled some okra seed. We had Thanksgiving dinner today.

Fri. 29th. Cloudy some all day and dropped rain at 1 to 2 in eve and very cool from E of N. Willie at mill most of day and hauled 2 bbls of molasses home at sunset. Wiley finished cooking our molasses after dark and went home on Ned.

Sat. 30th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and chilly from N but not quite cold enough to freeze. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve. Little Wiley came at sunrise and he and Marion hunting most of day. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and patched kitchen wood box in eve.
