NOVEMBER 1916
Wed. Nov. 1st. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud and Sam dug potatoes today. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.
Thu. 2nd. Bright and cool and dry. Willie and Dud and Sam dug potatoes today and finished all but a little. Carl and I gathered 1 1/2 p'ks of pecans today.
Fri. 3rd. Bright and cool and dry. Willie and Dud finished digging and hauling sweet potatoes by 10 in morn and dug the Irish potatoes in patch N of here by 3 in eve and hauled 2 loads of wood by late in eve. Carl and I gathered one p'k of pecans today in morn and I set trap on a hen near spring in eve.
Sat. 4th. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud cut and stripped cane in patch E of here in morn and Willie and Minnie and Carl drove Daisie to town in eve and returned after dark. I gathered pecans in morn and set a Dom hen in coop.
Sun. 5th. Clear and cool and dry. I walked to Wiley's in morn and carried 1/2 bu of pecans. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve. Henly brought Elma late in eve.
Mon. 6th. Bright and wind from SE and warmer. Willie and Dud cut and stripped cane today. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bus of pecans today.
Tue. 7th. Bright but some clouds and windy from SE. Willie and Dud cut and stripped cane in patch N of here today. Carl and I gathered pecans today. Beulah Wigner and 2 children dined here.
Wed. 8th. Bright but some clouds and windy from SE. Willie and Dud hauled cane to Wiley's today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash and gathered pecans most of day.
Thu. 9th. Cloudy and wind changed to NW at 8 in morn and sprinkled rain most of morn and some in eve and cool at night. Willie and Dud finished hauling cane to Wiley's in morn and Wiley finished his molasses in morn and they ground our cane with Wiley's team in eve and Willie and Wiley cooked our molasses and Dud drove our wagon to town in eve and carried 1 bbl of Wiley's molasses and brought back 3 new bbls for Willie. I gathered pecans today.
Fri. 10th. Bright and cool and dry. Willie cooked his molasses all day and Dud and Jack helped at mill. Wiley went in morn for Bernice and returned at dusk. I gathered pecans today.
Sat. 11th. Bright and cool and dry. Willie and Dud at mill all day and helping Wiley with molasses and hauled 2 bbls home late in eve. I gathered pecans today.
Sun. 12th. Bright and cool and dry. I've had running off for 2 days. Minnie and Carmel and Charles and Carl went to SS in eve and Marion sick. Nellie and Maud Henderson walked to Dixie's in morn.
Mon. 13th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and warm in eve. Willie and Dud and Jack helped Wiley all day to cook Willie's molasses. I gathered pecans in morn and carried 1/2 bu to Wiley's in eve.
Tue. 14th. The wind changed to N last night and a very cold and high wind from N all day and sprinkled rain some late in eve and early in night. Willie and Dud and Jack at Wiley's mill till 11 in morn and hauled 2 bbls of molasses home then and finished and Willie and Dud hauled wood in eve. I drew water for washing and picked up 1 1/2 p'ks of pecans today - blown down by the wind last night and today.
Wed. 15th. It cleared off last night and clear today and a killing freeze in morn and a cold wind from N all day and ice in shade all day. Willie walked and saw cattle in field on the creek in morn and went bird hunting in eve. I picked up pecans today.
Thu. 16th. Clear and a hard freeze and frost in morn but calm and warmer in eve. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I shucked some bread corn in morn and picked up some pecans in eve.
Fri. 17th. Bright, nearly clear, and a freeze in morn and a dry and cold wind from W all day. Willie cut up good deal of wood in morn and dug 3 holes in new garden to set out pecan trees in eve. I picked up pecans today after Willie and I shelled some bread corn in morn.
Sat. 18th. Bright and very cool and dry from N. Willie drove Daisie to town and mill in morn and returned late in eve. I picked up pecans in morn. I have a very bad cold in head and throat.
Sun. 19th. Bright, nearly clear, and a frost and freeze in morn but pleasant in eve but very dry. All went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there, except me. Emma brought Elma in eve.
Mon. 20th. Bright and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve and very dry. Willie dug holes in new hollow N of here to set pecan trees in in morn and went squirrel hunting in eve and killed 4. I gathered pecans in morn.
Tue. 21st. Cloudy some and warmer and wind from SE. Willie cut down a dead birch near old garden and cut up wood on it in morn. I packed up some of wood and drew water for tomorrow's washing in morn and picked up pecans in eve. Willie killed 4 squirrels in eve.
Wed. 22nd. Cloudy and windy from SE all morn and rained in little showers at 9 to 11 1/2 and we had a good rain then and quit at 12 to 3 and blew up then from W - a hard wind and rain and quit at 4. Willie cut down the pignut pecan tree in front and cut it up into wood today. I picked up pecans blown down by the wind today.
Thu. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from W of N. Willie drove the mules to wagon and carried 2 bbls of molasses to town in morn and sold at 40cts. and brought back 12 pecan trees and 3 pear trees late in eve. I picked up 2 1/2 p'ks of pecans today (in morn) blown down by the wind on yesterday.
Fri. 24th. Clear and a cold wind from N all day. Willie set out the pecan and pear trees in morn and went hunting in eve. I picked up pecans today.
Sat. 25th. Bright and a freeze in morn and wind from NE. Willie drove Daisie to town in morn and carried 85 lbs of pecans and sold at 14 cts and returned late in eve. I gathered one p'k of pecans today.
Sun. 26th. Bright and a freeze in morn but wind from E and warmer in eve. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's.
Mon. 27th. Bright and very cool early in morn and warmer in eve from SE. Willie cut wood in field today. I picked up pecans today. Willie and I put our milk cows out on creek early in morn.
Tue. 28th. Bright but some clouds and appearance of rain. Daisie overturned buggy on yesterday eve and Marion rode her and Carmel went in buggy with Buddy to school today. Willie hauled wood from field today. I set out strawberry plants in old garden in morn. Wed. 29th. Foggy and wet till 10 in morn and bright and warm in eve. Willie suffering with his hurt side today but went hunting in eve and killed 6 squirrels. I set out strawberry plants in old garden in morn and picked up pecans in eve.
Thu. 30th. Bright, nearly clear. It rained and thundered in NE last night and wind changed to E of N and cold today. Willie nearly laid up with his side today. Thanksgiving Day today. Minnie and Carmel and Marion walked to Dixie's to a Sociable at night. I set out strawberry plants in old garden in morn and watered them in eve.
