NOVEMBER 1891
Sun. Nov. 1st. Bright but cloudy some and warm and dry. None of us went to preaching. I walked to Sims' at 8 to 9 1/2 in morn. Bud here most of day.
Mon. 2nd. Clear and cool and dry from N. Pa, Willie, Rena and I picked peas (in hull) in Persimmon cut till 9 1/4 in morn and all of us but Rena picked in Gate cut balance of day.
Tue. 3rd. Clear, smoky and dry and cool from NE. I drove Hattie to buggy to Turnbull's (and let colt follow) to election and there all day till 7 1/2 at night when I got home. I served as Inspector. Pa, Willie and Rena picked peas in Persimmon cut till 9 3/4 and Pa and Willie picked cotton balance of day in Gate cut and finished there by sunset.
Wed. 4th. Clear, smoky and dry. Pa, Willie, Rena and I picked peas in Persimmon cut till 9 1/2 and Pa, Willie and I picked over H ridge and Cherry cut both by late in eve and got 123 and I --- owed to Pa and Willie 127 pounds --- out of the 300 which I borrowed on --- of mine.
Thu. 5th. Clear, smoky and dry. Pa, Willie, Rena and I picked peas in bottom till 9 in morn and Pa and Willie picked cotton in Fence row cut balance of day. I rode Salome and Nellie and Rena drove Hattie to town in eve and home by dusk.
Fri. 6th. Clear but smoky and dry. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in bottom till 9 1/4 in morn and cotton in Fence row cut balance of day and finished that cut by late in eve.
Sat. 7th. Foggy and wet till 10 1/2 and bright and warm balance of day from S. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in bottom and in Persimmon cut till 9 3/4 in morn and I hauled in about 1/2 load and last of our corn from Persimmon cut by 11. I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve.
Sun. 8th. Bright but cloudy from S and rained at night in thunder showers from SW - a pretty good rain in all. None of us went to church. Nellie and Willie went to Clara's in morn and there all day. Pa and I put new bought cords in his clock in morn. I rode Hattie to Clara's in eve.
Mon. 9th. It rained in thunder showers most of last night and slowly till 9 3/4 this morn - a good rain in all and much needed -and rained a little shower from NW at 3 3/4 in eve and turned cool. I took up manure and fixed spring and fed calves in morn at 10 to 12 and Pa, Willie and I stopped pig holes all around our calf pasture fence and marked our 2 pigs and put in pasture at 12 1/2 to 2 and picked cotton by front gate till 3 1/2 and rain stopped us.
Tue. 10th. Bright and cold NW wind all day. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day. We picked over Pine corner by 10 and finished cut by front gate on west side by 11 3/4 and picked over all of Gate cut in eve.
Wed. 11th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton in Cane hollow most of day. I rode Hattie to Cohen's in eve at 3 to 5 1/2 and got some things and got 2 cane knives on credit, price unknown.
Thu. 12th. Cloudy and rained from NW at 8 to 10 1/2 (slowly) in morn and chilly and drizzled some from N in eve. Willie and I drove up Gypsy with a dun bull calf at 8 in morn from toward Coon place and did nothing but get wood at 10 1/2 to 11 1/2 and Willie and I began and cut cane all eve in orchard part on west side of new ground (for seed). Pa picked some cotton in Cane hollow in eve.
Fri. 13th. Bright and pleasant. Willie and I cut and ricked cane most of day. We finished all on west side of new ground and cut all eve on east side on longest rows. Pa picked cotton all day. He finished Cane hollow in morn and picked in Fence row cut in eve. We got maggots out of little Katie calf's navel at 11.
Sat. 14th. Bright and warm from S. Willie and I cut cane most of morn on east side of new ground. Dan dined here. I rode Salome and Dixie and Rena drove Hattie to town in eve and they got a hat apiece and some other things and we returned at dusk. I had a headache all day and was quite sick with it at dark but I took 2 doses of Preston's headache cure at bedtime and quieted me and I rested pretty well all night and didn't vomit any. Howard Mill---- came here at dusk and ate supper and went ---Lewis for night.
Sun. 15th. Bright and warm and damp E wind all day and moon fulled and eclipsed at 7 at night. None of us went to church. Bud and Howard Miller here most of day. My head ached most of day but I was up and didn't vomit any and it got better at 12 and left me at night.
Mon. 16th. Cloudy and damp S wind and rained a hard rain with some thunder and wind from NW at 10 at night and turned quite cool. Pa picked cotton most of day. Willie and I finished cutting cane by 11 1/2 in morn and we picked over cut by front gate on west and most of Gate cut of cotton in eve and got 40 pds in all.
Tue. 17th. It rained last night and clear and a cold N wind all day. Pa, Willie and I packed up some wood in morn and got some hay in Cane hollow in eve for potatoes and cleaned out potatoe house getting ready for digging.
Wed. 18th. Clear and very cold - a killing freeze and didn't thaw in shade all day. We got some wood in morn and didn't work on account of cold. I drove Hattie to cart to Cohen's in eve and got some things which I paid for and got a bbl flour on credit and walked back and got home just at sunset.
Thu. 19th. Cloudy, a slight freeze in morn, but warmer and dropped rain some most of morn till 10 1/2 from NE. We got some wood in morn and Pa and Willie drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's and got some ---ing for themselves in eve. I picked ---cotton in Gate cut in eve.
Fri. 20th. Cloudy and rained in slow showers most of day after 9 in morn. We dug potatoes (the first) at 7 1/2 to 9 1/2 in morn and rain stopped us. We did nothing balance of day but get some wood and made some molasses candy in eve.
Sat. 21st. Cloudy and rained in showers at 8 in morn from S till late in eve at 4 and rained heavily from SW at 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 in eve and from NW at 11 1/2 to 12 1/2 at night - heavily with good deal of wind. We dug one row of potatoes early in morn and rain stopped us.
Sun. 22nd. Cloudy all morn from SW and showered at 12 1/2 from NW and turned cool and cleared off late in eve. All of us home all morn. Nellie and Dixie and Rena walked to Lewis' in eve. Cousin Dosia came there last evening. Willie walked to Clara's in eve.
Mon. 23rd. Clear, a slight freeze in morn, and a cold NW wind all day. Nellie and I drove Hattie to buggy to town and back by Cohen's and we got a black suit for me, 17 dollars, and other things to amount of $28.50 on credit and we got home at 3. Pa and Willie picked some cotton in morn and some in eve, 35 in all in theirs.
Tue. 24th. Clear, a white frost and freeze in morn, but warmer in eve. Pa was sick all last night and today, but not in bed, with diarrhea. Willie and I dug potatoes all day with Hattie in new ground. Nellie, Dixie and Rena cooked in eve for Seymour's infair supper.
Wed. 25th. Cloudy and began to rain in slow showers at 12 1/4 and lasted till 3 and cleared off from west. Willie and I picked 15 of S-H cotton in morn, the last. Gussie took Nellie to Fugler's in morn and Dixie rode Hattie and Willie rode Salome to Seymour's ---wedding in eve and all of us but Pa --- to supper at night.
Thu. 26th. Bright and cool all day and rained a little thunder shower from NW at dark. I came home from Lewis' at 12 1/2 last night and balance came just before day and Corinne and May Miller came and left early in morn. Pa, Willie and I dug potoates in new ground most of day.
Fri. 27th. Bright, frost in morn, but warmer from S in eve. Pa, Willie and I finished digging and hauling in our potatoes by 12 1/2. I lay down all eve or most of it and vomited some with headache. I took it last night and it got better after dark.
Sat. 28th. Cloudy but bright in morn and rained several little showers from west and wind changed to NW at 10 and cool in eve. My headache left me in morn early and I led Hattie and took 6 bus yams to Cohen's on cart and sold out all at 75 cts. per bu. - Mrs. Sawyer owes me 25 cts. and Patsy T owes 75 cts. and Mrs. Johnson $1.00. I got home at 1 and we packed some wood in eve.
Sun. 29th. Clear and a freeze all day in shade and cold N wind. None of us went to church. Nellie at Lewis' all day and Dixie and Rena there all eve. Pa and I walked to Clara's in eve.
Mon. 30th. Clear, a hard freeze in morn, and didn't thaw in shade all day. I stopped cracks in floor of our bedroom most of morn and rode Hattie to Cohen's in eve to see about ginning our last 2 bales. Nellie and Dixie and Rena and ---Parker washed, scoured and cleaned up --- day. Pa and Willie picked little cotton today.
