MAY 1917

Tue. May 1st. Bright, nearly clear, and a little cool from N and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Sidney planted corn till 4 in eve and finished and Dud and Sidney barred off cotton late in eve and Willie scraped. I hoed around 9 bought pecan trees and 3 apple trees in morn.

Wed. 2nd. Bright and cool early in morn but wind from S and warmer and dropped rain a little late in eve. Dud and Sidney barred off cotton and Willie scraped cotton. I hoed around peach trees in patch E of here in morn.

Thu. 3rd. Bright but cloudy some and warm and windy from SW. Willie and Dud dipped cattle at Thompson's by 10 in morn and Sidney and Dud barred off cotton and Willie hoed in watermelon patch in eve. I hoed around peach trees in patch E of here in morn.

Fri. 4th. Bright and a little cool from N. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in corn. Willie hoed in watermelon patch today. I hoed around trees in patch E of here in morn.

Sat. 5th. A thunder cloud passed around S of here from SW very near, at sunrise, and dropped rain a little here and clear after 9 in morn and wind cool from NE. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in corn in morn. I hoed around trees in patch E of here and put ashes around some peach trees in morn. Mrs. Baldwin brought Katie James in morn. Willie drove Daisie to town in eve.

Sun. 6th. Bright and cool from NE and cloudy late in eve and at night and rained a little in night. Lanehart and family spent day here. No one went to SS.

Mon. 7th. Bright but cloudy some and cool from N and dry. Willie and Dud and Sidney scraped cotton today. I hoed around fig and peach trees in patch E of here in morn.

Tue. 8th. Bright and dry and very cool from N. Willie molded cotton and Dud and Sidney and Sophia scraped cotton today. I thinned butter and pole beans in new garden and hoed some in old garden in morn.

Wed. 9th. Clear and very cool and clear in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve and some clouds. Willie molded cotton and Dud and Sidney and Sophia scraped. I hoed in old garden in morn and finished there.

Thu. 10th. Cloudy all day and rained slowly in morn awhile and dropped rain some in eve and rained some in night. Dud and Sidney and Sophia scraped cotton today and Willie molded behind them. I hoed some in new garden in morn.

Fri. 11th. Cloudy and no sun and began to rain before day and lasted till 7 1/2 - enough to wet ground pretty well but not run -and rained in little showers at 10 to 12 and dripped some in eve. Willie molded cotton. Dud and Sidney and Sophia scraped in morn and they replanted patch of corn E of here in eve. Marion returned from school at 12 and left Carmel at college. I set out some tomatoes and okra and cucumbers in new garden in morn.

Sat. 12th. Bright and cool from NE most of day and dropped rain at 4 in eve. Willie and Marion dipped cattle early in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve. Dud and Sidney scraped cotton in morn. I hoed around the 8 peach trees in patch E of here in morn.

Sun. 13th. Bright and cool and dry. Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to town to Methodist church to "Children's day" in morn and they and children went to SS in eve. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn.

Mon. 14th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool and dry from N. Willie molded cotton and Marion and Dud and Sidney scraped. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Tue. 15th. Clear and cool and dry from N. Willie molded cotton and Dud and Sidney and Sophia scraped and finished late in eve. Marion ran cultivator on corn middles with Sandy. I finished hoeing new garden and hoed around hills of watermelons in field in morn.

Wed. 16th. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Marion hoed burrs in old corn in morn. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in old corn today. I hoed up hedge burrs NW of here in morn. May McCraine and Rosa Miller here today and left late in eve.

Thu. 17th. Clear and cool and dry from SW. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in old corn till 10 1/2 in morn and finished and plowed the potatoes in patch E of here and Dud went to a burying in eve and Sidney molded corn in eve. Willie and Marion dipped cattle at Thompson's in morn. I hoed up briars in back yard in morn.

Fri. 18th. Bright and wind from SW and very dry. Dud and Sidney molded corn and Willie cut burrs in corn. I hoed up ground in far part of field to plant tomatoes in morn.

Sat. 19th. Bright but cloudy some and wind from SW and dry. Dud and Sidney molded corn in morn and Willie and Marion rode to pasture at Surgett's in morn and Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to town in eve. I hoed up new ground in field and planted some tomatoes there in morn.

Sun. 20th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there and Mamie Johns came here late in eve and here all night.

Mon. 21st. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW and lightning all night in S. Dud and Sidney molded old corn and Willie hoed burrs there today. I hoed up ground and planted tomatoes in far part of field in morn.

Tue. 22nd. Bright and windy from SW and dry and lightning in SE at night. Dud and Sidney molded old corn today and finished. Willie hoed watermelon patch today. I hoed up ground and planted tomatoes in field in morn and finished.

Wed. 23rd. Bright and a little cool from N and dry. Dud and Sidney barred off late corn and Willie and Marion hoed there. I hoed new strawberries and packed out the grapevine in old garden in morn.

Thu. 24th. Bright and cool in morn but warm in eve and dry from SE. Dud and Sidney barred off late corn and Willie and Marion hoed corn. I repaired front steps and put hoops on a tub in morn.

Fri. 25th. Bright but cloudy some and windy and dry from SW. Dud and Sidney barred off late corn and Willie and Marion hoed corn in morn and Carmel and Marion drove Julia (mule) to town in eve and brought Sarah Percy here and Bernice and Nellie and little Wiley and Nora and Clarence ate supper here and Eva Ferguson too.

Sat. 26th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW. Dud and Sidney hoed late corn in morn and Willie and Marion dipped cattle in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve and carried 7 1/2 p'ks of corn to mill. I hunted hens' nests in morn.

Sun. 27th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW till late in eve and lightning in N and W early in night and sprinkled rain a little here at night. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion and Sarah Percy walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 28th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cool and dry wind from N all day and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Sidney hoed late corn in back of field today and Marion hoed there too. I dug the Irish potatoes in NW corner of old garden in morn. Lynn Ferguson dined here. Carmel and Sarah Percy drove Julia (mule) to town in eve.

Tue. 29th. Bright and warm and dry from SW. Willie and Dud and Sidney and some hands hoed corn today. Marion and Carmel and Sarah Percy went to Bill Ferguson's in morn and returned at dusk. I dug some Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Wed. 30th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW and sprinkled rain a little in night. Willie and Dud and Sidney and Marion and some hands hoed corn till 12 and Willie sowed peas and Dud and Sidney plowed middles out of old corn in eve. I got wood and water for Leah to wash early in morn and dug Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Thu. 31st. Bright and warm and windy from SW and very dry. Willie and Marion sowed peas early in morn and dipped cattle at Thompson's early in morn and Willie sowed peas in eve and Dud and Sidney plowed out middles in old corn all day. I dug Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn.
