JUNE 1918
Sat. June 1st. Bright and warm in morn and we had a good soaking rain in eve at 3 to 5 from S and much needed too. Bunges rebedded slip ground in patch N of here in morn and Dud ran cultivator in his cotton. I hoed my Beauty tomatoe patch in field in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve.
Sun. 2nd. Cloudy and thundered and rained around most of day but only sprinkled a little here. Gordon dined here today. None went to SS in eve.
Mon. 3rd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight today. Dud and Bunges ran cultivators in cotton and Willie and Marion hilled cotton today. I set out 2 rows of beauty tomatoes in field early in morn and planted some pepper in old garden and picked some dry peas in new garden till 11 in morn.
Tue. 4th. Bright and warm all morn and cloudy all eve and a thunder cloud passed around SW from W in eve but only dropped rain a little here. Bunges ran cultivator in cotton all day. Willie and Marion and Bee Martin hilled cotton today. I picked dry peas in new garden in morn. Lucile and Annabel James came at 12.
Wed. 5th. Bright and quite warm all day and thunder clouds in sight but no rain here. Willie and Marion hilled cotton in morn and Bunges ran cultivator in cotton in morn and he and Marion ran cultivators in late corn in eve. I picked dry peas in new garden in morn. Carmel and Lucile drove Buck to town in eve and brought some ice and we had cream at night.
Thu. 6th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight today. Marion and Bunges ran cultivators in late corn and Willie and some hands hilled cotton today. I picked dry peas in new garden in morn and finished them and I shucked some bread corn in eve. Lucile and Annabel left in morn.
Fri. 7th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight in the day but thundered around and sprinkled a little here in night. Marion and Bunges ran cultivators in cane in morn and Willie and Bunges in eve and Marion and Carmel drove Buck to town to picture show in eve. I hoed in new garden in morn on East side to peas and shucked some bread corn in eve.
Sat. 8th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NE but no rain here. We had an eclipse of sun (nearly total) late in eve. Willie ran cultivator and harrow in corn in patches E and N of here in morn and finished all. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and returned with meal. I hoed in new garden on W side in morn.
Sun. 9th. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy all eve and rained around N and NW of here most of eve in thunder showers and rained a little slow rain here just before night. None went to SS in eve.
Mon. 10th. Bright and very warm till 3 in eve and began to rain at 3 1/2 in little thunder showers from NE then and lasted till 6 1/2 - a good soaking rain in all and much needed too. Dud and Bunges plowed late corn in Pine hollow in pocket there today. Willie and Marion sowed peas there and hoed corn in new hollow and all got wet late in eve. I pulled up canes and hoed pea ground in new garden and picked some dry bush beans there in morn.
Tue. 11th. Bright and warm most of day and rained around in thunder showers in eve and rained 2 or 3 hard showers here. Willie and Marion and Bunges set out slips in patch E of here in morn and I helped them some. I planted pole beans in new garden on pea ground early in morn. Dud dug his Irish potaotes in field early in morn and he and Bunges plowed late corn in field in eve.
Wed. 12th. Bright and very warm most of day and no rain in day but a thunder cloud came up from NE at 8 1/2 in night and blew and rained a hard sprinkle here. Dud and Bunges plowed late corn in big bottom today and Willie sowed peas and he and Marion hoed some in cane in patch N of here in eve. I hoed Beauty tomatoes in field in morn and picked some dry pole beans.
Thu. 13th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges plowed late corn in big bottom and finished there late in eve and plowed a little in patch E of here. Willie sowed peas ahead of plows and he and Marion hoed some in cane in patch N of here. I gathered the white onions in old garden early in morn and put them on a scaffold in potatoe house and picked some dry bush beans in morn.
Fri. 14th. Bright and very warm in morn and cloudy and sultry in eve but no rain. Dud and Bunges plowed corn E of here and a little in patch N of here late in eve. Willie sowed peas and he and Marion hoed some cane. I hoed fruit trees out E of here in morn.
Sat. 15th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges finished plowing late corn at 9 in morn and molded cotton balance of morn. Willie rode Buck to hunt cattle in morn and drove Buck to town in eve. I hoed fruit trees out E of here in morn and was sick some in eve.
Sun. 16th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Mr. and Mrs. Seward and daughter at Wiley's today and Nellie and Carmel and Marion dined there. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to SS in eve. Carmel and Marion drove him to Methodist church in town late in eve.
Mon. 17th. Bright and very warm and getting too dry. Dud and Bunges remolded cotton today. Willie and Marion hoed cane in patch N of here today and finished. I hoed around the bought pecan trees early in morn and picked some dry beans in new garden and shelled some dry peas.
Tue. 18th. Bright and very warm till in eve at 4 and a thunder cloud passed around from E to SE but only sprinkled a little here at 6. Dud and Bunges remolded cotton till 6 in eve and rain ran them home then. Willie hoed down burrs in his Irish potatoes in field. I hoed in old garden in morn.
Wed. 19th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NE at 7 and we had a good hard shower till 8 1/2 - which wet ground some for it was very dry. Dud and Bunges remolded cotton today. Willie rode Buck to Preston Veal's and borrowed his pump and rope to pump our well and Willie rode Buck to Middleton's in eve - he is sick. I hoed in old garden in morn.
Thu. 20th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and thundered and rained around some but only dropped a little here at dark. Dud and Bunges plowed cotton. Willie and Marion and I pumped our well in morn.
Fri. 21st. Bright and warm all day and no rain in sight today. Dud and Bunges plowed cotton today. They helped Willie and Marion dig the Irish potatoes and bring them in from field in morn. I hoed in old garden on W side early in morn and picked some dry bush beans in new garden.
Sat. 22nd. Cloudy some all day and warm and no rain in sight. Bunges drove the wagon to town in morn and Willie rode Daisie and they returned at 12 with meal. Willie rode Daisie to hunt cattle in eve. Marion and Buddy drove Buck to Mrs. James' in morn. I broke down bushes and weeds around old garden and picked some dry pole beans in morn.
Sun. 23rd. Bright and very warm till 4 in eve and we had a good rain till 5 1/2 from SE and much needed too. Bro Tom and his two little girls here today and left late in eve.
Mon. 24th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges rebedded slip ground in patch N of here early in morn and plowed cotton balance of day. Willie and Marion scraped slips in patch E of here today. I hoed up bush beans on W side of new garden and planted a row of late cucumbers there and planted the arbor of pole beans there in late pole beans in morn.
Tue. 25th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges plowed cotton today. Willie and Marion scraped slips in patch E of here. I hoed in new garden in morn.
Wed. 26th. Bright and very warm all day and thundered and rained around most of night but only dropped a little here. Dud and Bunges plowed cotton today. I hoed in tomatoe patch in field in morn.
Thu. 27th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. Bunges plowed cane in patch N of here today. I hoed in new garden on E side and finished there in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in eve.
Fri. 28th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges ran harrows in cotton in morn and Willie and Minnie drove Buck to SS in eve to a War Savings Stamp meeting. S.O. Stockett and 2 sons here at 11 in morn and Caldwell and Rogers stopped here in eve.
Sat. 29th. Bright and very warm and dry from W and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges opened ditches in field in morn. I shelled some dry beans in barn in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in eve.
Sun. 30th. Bright and very warm and dry from W and no rain in sight. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. All went to SS in eve but Nellie - she went to Wiley's - and Bro Dawson preached there.
