JULY 1913

Thu. Jul. 17th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain near today. Ben still in bed and Willie didn't work today. I got wood and drew water for Hannah to wash early in morn. I helped Clarence L to gather 2 big buckets of figs and Marion helped him to carry them home. I shelled and winnowed some bread corn in eve.

Fri. 18th. Bright and very warm and dry and no rain near but thundered in a cloud in sight in E most of eve. Willie took our old wagon to town with the mules in morn to have all the wheels renewed. Gussie D dined here and left late in eve. I hoed butter beans in hollow E of here in morn and picked some dry pole beans there in eve.

Sat. 19th. Bright and very warm and dry all day and a thundercloud in sight in SE at night. Willie drove Sandy to buggy to Ogden's mill early in morn and returned at 10 with 4 bu of meal and he drove Sandy to town in eve. I hoed butter beans in hollow E of here in morn and finished them by 10 3/4 and shucked corn and fed and helped to milk in eve.

Sun. 20th. Bright and very warm all morn and thundered around S and SE of here and ________ of eve but no rain here. I walked to Wiley's early in morn and carried a big bucket of figs. Jack D and Viola and Buddy and Effie there. Willie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 21st. Bright and warm and rained around E and SE of here and not far off in thundershowers most of eve from NE but none here. Willie drove our mules to our wagon and Dago drove Wiley's team to Lewis' wagon and hauled 2 loads of lumber here in morn and 2 more in eve to put an addition to our house. I gathered a 1/2 bu of figs for Minnie to preserve early in morn and 1/2 more for Mrs. Lanehart (she came for them) and Marion helped me to gather the figs. I packed and cut up some wood and shucked corn by 12 and picked some dry pole beans in eve.

Tue. 22nd. Bright and warm most of morn and cloudy and a damp breeze from SE all eve but no rain here. Willie and Dago hauled 4 loads of lumber today as on yesterday. Ben drove our wagon in eve and Marion went too on wagon and Willie rode Sandy. Marion and I gathered 1/2 bu figs early in morn for Minnie to preserve and 1/2 bu more for Mrs. Lanehart - she came for them - and I packed and cut up some wood by 10 1/4 and Marion and I packed 3 pecks of tomatoes from field by 11 1/4 and I packed 2 pecks more in eve from field to put up in jars and I shelled some dry pole beans in eve.

Wed. 23rd. It began to rain slowly at daylight from S and lasted till 9 in morn and a pretty good rain in all and needed very much too and cloudy balance of day from S. Willie and Ben hauled 3 wagon loads of wood from out N of here at 10 to 11 1/2 in morn and Willie rode Sandy and Ben drove the mules to town in eve and brought back a load of shingles. I cut up good deal of stove wood in morn and replanted beans in garden in eve and hoed and set out some late tomatoes too.

Thu. 24th. It rained in hard showers from S at 2 1/2 to 4 in morn and a good rain in all and wet ground well for the first time in nearly 3 weeks and bright till 2 in eve and we had a little shower then from W. Willie and Ben helped to put up a brush arbor at schoolhouse most of day. I helped to gather figs for Cousin Mary and Mrs. Lanehart early in morn and picked _____ out of strawberries in ____ till 11.

Fri. 25th. Cloudy some all morn and rained in little showers at 12 to 1 ______ in eve. Willie and Ben sawed down the 3 cedar trees at old Coon place and sawed them in blocks today. I gathered all of ripe tomatoes in field in morn and Marion and Buddy helped me to carry them (about 1 bu) to Rena to put up and I picked grass out of strawberries till 11.

Sat. 26th. Bright early in morn and a thundercloud came up from SW at 9 1/2 in morn and we had a good shower and another came up from W at 12 1/2 and we had a good hard rain with some thunder and bright some in eve. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and Wiley carried a load of watermelons on wagon and a coop of 14 young chickens for us and they returned in eve. I picked grass out of strawberries till 9 1/2 in morn and rain stopped me. I got some okra and butter beans in eve.

Sun. 27th. Bright and warm and a thundercloud passed around S from SW early in eve but no rain here. Wiley and family went in surrey to Jack D's in morn and returned late in eve. Gordon dined here and he and Willie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 28th. Bright and very warm and no rain near today. Willie rode Sandy and Ben drove the mules to wagon to town in morn and returned at 1 1/2 with a load of shingles. I picked grass out of strawberries til 10 1/2 in morn and Joe Miller and little Lucy came then and I helped Joe to gather 1/2 bu of figs by 12. Willie and Ben sawed down a red oak out N of old orchard in eve.

Tue. 29th. Warm and cloudy all day and rained slowly at 2 to 4 in eve. Willie and Wiley and Ben took down our front gallery in morn to put in new sills and sleepers and hauled 3 loads of blocks (cedar) from old Coon place in eve. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn.

Wed. 30th. Bright and warm and no rain here but thundershowers far off in eve. Lewis and Wiley and Willie and Ben put up front gallery to our front room and laid foundation for the 2 new rooms today. I packed 2 turns of tomatoes from field in morn and sent 2 big buckets of them to Cousin Mary by Steve and Ernest.

Thu. 31st. Bright and warm most of day and rained out SE and E and N of here late in eve with good deal of thunder but no rain here. Lewis and Willie and Ben framed in the 2 new rooms today. Wiley went to his Pa's in morn and _______ work here today. ________ I hoed bush beans and ___ beans and eggplants in garden in morn and got some green pine straw for hens nests in eve.
