DECEMBER 1916

Fri. Dec. 1st. Bright, nearly clear, and a white frost in morn but calm and a pleasant day after 10 in morn. Willie and Marion and Buddy went hunting - no school today nor yesterday. I set out strawberry plants in old garden in morn and watered them in eve.

Sat. 2nd. Bright and a very white frost in morn but a breeze from S and warmer in eve. Willie drove Daisie to town in morn and returned late in eve. I set out strawberry plants in old garden in morn and watered them and picked up pecans in eve.

Sun. 3rd. Cloudy and warmer today. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's. Wiley carried Bernice and 2 little Smith girls as far as town and his mare was sick and he sent them on to Mr. Seward in an auto and came back.

Mon. 4th. Warm and cloudy from SW. Willie cut wood in field today. I packed hen manure in old garden and put between rows of strawberries, set out last week, in morn and picked up pecans in eve.

Tue. 5th. Warm and cloudy and dropped rain a little in morn but bright in eve. Willie rode Daisie to town in morn and returned late in eve - he went to a Show in town. Henly carried Elma to the Show at night. I packed hen manure and put between rows of strawberries in morn.

Wed. 6th. Warm and cloudy but no rain. Willie chopped wood in field today. I cut down some limbs off the dead beech log out N of old garden in morn and picked up pecans in eve.

Thu. 7th. Warm and cloudy and damp wind from SE but no rain. Willie cut up wood in morn and rode Daisie to hunt cattle in eve. I watered all of strawberries set out in old garden in morn.

Fri. 8th. We had a good shower at 4 to 5 1/2 in morn from SW and a thunder cloud blew up from NW at 9 in morn and rained a good rain here till 11 and very cool from NW all eve and cold and clear all night. Lanehart got our mules and wagon early in morn to haul cotton seed from Laurel Hill. Carmel and Marion and Buddy drove Hal to our buggy to school in morn and they went to a show in town in eve and returned after dark. Willie and I killed and dressed a young sow late in eve.

Sat. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and a freeze early in morn. Willie and Marion and Charles went to a Show in town in morn and returned late in eve. I cut up wood and picked up pecans today.

Sun. 10th. Bright, but some clouds, and a freeze and white frost in morn but a breeze from SE and warmer in eve. Wiley went to his Pa's in morn and Rena and children and Buddy and his 2 little girls dined here. Marion and Carmel walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 11th. Cloudy and rained a little from NW early in morn and cold from NW all day. Willie cut wood in field today. I set out and watered 4 rows of strawberries in NE corner of old garden in morn and picked up some pecans in eve.

Tue. 12th. A freeze and white frost in morn but pleasant in sun most of day. Willie cut wood in field today. I set out strawberries in NE part of old garden in morn and watered them in eve.

Wed. 13th. Bright, nearly clear, and a white frost and freeze in morn but wind from S and warmer in eve. Willie chopped wood in field in morn and rode Daisie to hunt cattle in eve. I set out strawberries in N part of old garden in morn and watered them in eve.

Thu. 14th. It began to rain slowly just before day from SW and lasted till 11 and quit and a thunder cloud blew up from NW at 2 and rained here till 4 and turned cold and quit. We did nothing but get wood. Carmel and Marion went to school in rain in morn. Elma didn't teach.

Fri. 15th. Clear and a hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw all day in shade but calm in eve and at night. Willie cut up good deal of wood in morn and walked and drove up Lady with a heifer calf in eve. I picked up nearly one p'k of pecans in morn.

Sat. 16th. A freeze and very white frost in morn and clear, but wind from SW and warmer in eve. Willie walked to Wiley's in morn to see about little Wiley, he shot off one of his toes and Willie drove Daisie to town and returned at sunset. I picked up pecans in morn.

Sun. 17th. Cloudy and began to rain in little sprinkles at 12 and lasted till 4 in eve and quit. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Willie drove Daisie and took Bernice to Mr. Seward's in eve and brought Elma back at dark.

Mon. 18th. Bright and a cold wind from W of N all day and clear and calm and cold all night. Willie hauled wood from field all day with Ned and Ella. I picked up 1/2 p'k of pecans in morn.

Tue. 19th. Bright and a hard freeze and white frost in morn and a cold wind from S all day and cloudy in eve and rained some in night. Willie patched up Lanehart's pasture fence NE of here in morn and cut up some wood in eve. I picked up some pecans today. Nellie and little Nellie drove Hal to Wiley's buggy to town in morn and returned late in eve.

Wed. 20th. Warmer and cloudy in morn from SW and clear in eve from W. Willie and Minnie and Carl drove Daisie to Wiley's wagon to town in morn and returned at 3 1/2 in eve. I got wood for Leah to wash in morn and picked up pecans and cut up wood.

Thu. 21st. Cloudy and very cool in morn from NE and cold from W of N all eve but no rain. Willie cut up good deal of wood in morn. I piled some pine in lower part of Pine hollow in field in morn.

Fri. 22nd. Clear and a hard freeze and very white frost in morn but wind from E and seemed warmer in eve. Willie cut up good deal of wood in morn and I cut some too and picked up some pecans.

Sat. 23rd. Bright but some clouds and a freeze and frost in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Willie rode Daisie to town in morn and returned late in eve. I chopped out pine in field in morn.

Sun. 24th. Cloudy and warmer today but no rain. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's.

Mon. 25th. It began to rain before day and lasted till 11 1/2 in morn with some thunder and a big rain in all and quit and cloudy all eve and wind from SE and rained some in night. Wiley and family and Mamie Kaigler came in the rain in morn and left in eve.

Tue. 26th. Cloudy and wind from SE and rained some in eve and some in night. I picked up one p'k of pecans in morn.

Wed. 27th. It began to rain before day and lasted all day - a very big fall of water. We did nothing but get wood and feed.

Thu. 28th. Cloudy and no rain and cool from NE. I picked up pecans in morn. Willie and Marion drove Daisie to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve.

Fri. 29th. Cloudy and cool. I piled pine in field in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Julia (mule) to College and brought Lois Hathorn here in eve and Lila and Rubie C ate supper here.

Sat. 30th. Cloudy and cool. I chopped pine in field in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Julia (mule) to town in eve and carried Lois Hathorn to College.

Sun. 31st. Cloudy and warmer from SE. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Marin C and little Wiley dined here. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve.
