Thu. Apr. 1st. Cloudy and very windy from S most of day and thundered around most of day and sprinkled rain here some in morn and in eve too. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground in Coon field all day and Willie there too most of day. I cut sticks and stuck peas in new garden in morn.
Fri. 2nd. Bright, nearly clear, and wind cool from N in morn and warm and calm in eve. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground in Coon field today and Willie there most of day. Willie helped me to stick peas in new garden awhile in morn.
Sat. 3rd. Cloudy and windy from S and sprinkled rain a little in morn and in eve too but not enough to wet ground any and calm and clear all night. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and Dud and Wiley drove wagon to town to mill in morn and all returned at 3 in eve and Willie rode Sandy to Bro Tom's in eve to see Dan - he is sick - and Willie returned in night. I stuck and manured peas in new garden all morn and part of eve too.
Sun. 4th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cold wind from NW all day and night too. Morris Ford and all of his family and Carmel came in a car in morn and left at 4 in eve.
Mon. 5th. Clear and a cold wind from W of N all day and changed to SW late in eve and turned warmer. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground in Coon field today. I hoed up ground on west side of new garden in morn to plant okra and beans in morn.
Tue. 6th. Cloudy some and windy from SW and looked like rain all day. Willie and Nellie drove Sandy to Bro Tom's - Dan is very sick - early in morn and didn't return. Dud and Wiley broke ground in Coon field today. I hoed in new garden on east side in morn.
Wed. 7th. Bright, but cloudy some, and dropped rain a little in eve. Dud and Wiley broke ground in Coon field today. Willie and Nellie returned from Bro Tom's at 11 1/2 in morn. Dan does not seem any better. I packed all of manure from cow pen and put in new garden on west side in morn.
Thu. 8th. Warm and cloudy and a damp wind from S and sprinkled rain some in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 3 in night and we had a big rain with some wind and hail and great deal of thunder till 4. Dud and Wiley and Bap planted cotton in Gate cut today. Willie rode Sandy to Bro Tom's in eve and stayed all night and Dan seems better. I spread the manure on west side of new garden (put there on yesterday) in morn.
Fri. 9th. It sprinkled rain just after sunrise and cleared off from NW and bright and cool balance of day. Dud and Wiley planted cotton in eve. Willie returned from Tom's in morn and hunted cattle to dip most of day. I set out some beets in new garden in morn early and stuck some peas there in eve.
Sat. 10th. Clear and cool from N. Willie and Dud and Wiley dipped cattle by 9 in morn and planted cotton till 12. Willie and Carl drove Buck to town in eve. Lucile and Mary and Ernest D and Charles and Lev went fishing in eve. I planted beans and cucumbers and okra and squashes in new garden on W side in morn.
Sun. 11th. Cloudy and windy from S and rained a big rain in night with some thunder. Willie rode Buck to Bro Tom's and back in eve. Dan seems to be better. Mrs. James and 2 little grandchildren came in a car late in eve.
Mon. 12th. Bright and cool from N. Dud and Wiley broke some land in Coon field in eve and finished breaking there and broke some in Cherry cut for potatoes. Willie and I finished sticking peas in new garden in morn. Wiley came in morn and got a buggy load of cotton seed.
Tue. 13th. Bright and cool. Willie and hands planted cotton all day. I was sick today - took 2 pills at daylight - and was sick at my stomach and vomited some.
Wed. 14th. Cool and bright. Willie and hands planted cotton all day. I got wood for Mary to wash and hoed some in new garden on W side and quit at 10 in morn and layed down awhile.
Thu. 15th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from S and no rain. Willie and hands planted cotton all day. I dug around hills of beans and okra and cucumbers on east side of new garden (planted last Sat.) to enable them to come up in morn.
Fri. 16th. It rained far off last night and nearly clear and warm today. Willie barred off his sugar cane and scraped it today. Hands planted cotton in Coon field today and finished. I hoed some in new garden in morn. I feel a little better today. Mrs. James and Lucile and her 2 little grandchildren left in a car in eve.
Sat. 17th. Bright but some clouds and very warm. Hands planted corn in Coon field in morn and finished there. Wiley and Mary drove Mike mule to buggy to town to Dr. in eve. Willie and Minnie drove Sandy to town in eve. I rescraped Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.
Sun. 18th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from S and looked like rain but none. Gordon dined here and all went to SS but Nellie and me and Bro Dawson preached there in eve.
Mon. 19th. Warm and cloudy and windy from S most of day and dropped rain some in morn. Willie and Dud and Wiley began and barred off corn today and hands hoed corn. I rescraped Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and packed 4 turns of stable manure and put between rows of peas in new garden in eve and hoed some of peas too.
Tue. 20th. Clear and warm and no signs of rain today. Willie and Dud and Wiley barred off corn today and hands hoed corn. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished and hoed some peas in new garden in eve.
Wed. 21st. Bright and pleasant from SW but too dry. Willie and Dud barred off corn today and hands hoed corn. Dr. Brandon, Jr. came out to see Mary Woods at 1 in eve - she miscarried today. Bro Tom and his 2 girls dined here. I finished hoeing peas in new garden and thinned beans and squashes there in morn.
Thu. 22nd. Bright but some clouds and warm from SW. Dud and Wiley barred off corn today. Willie had some hands hoeing his corn today. I hoed up ground in ditch in big hollow in field for tomatoes in morn.
Fri. 23rd. Cloudy and a little cool from E and dry. Dud and some hands hoed corn for Willie today. Sophia washed here today and Willie drew the water for washing. I hoed up ground for tomatoes on ditch in field in morn and finished it.
Sat. 24th. A thunder cloud came up from SW early in morn and rained a little shower here till 8 1/2 in morn and cloudy most of day - wind from S. Willie and Dud and Wiley dipped cattle in rain early in morn. Willie drove Buck to town and Dud and Wiley wagon to town and all returned late in eve. I packed some manure in new garden and set out 12 tomatoe plants there in morn and found a yellow hen setting on 11 eggs in eve.
Sun. 25th. It rained a little early in morn and bright and warm from S after 8 in morn. Gordon here awhile in eve. Willie was sick all night and Nellie and Minnie and I slept but little.
Mon. 26th. Cloudy and sprinkled rain some early in morn and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 10 in morn and we had a big washing rain till 12 and slowly some in eve and cool late in eve and at night from NW. Dud and Wiley and Joe planted corn in Coon field till the rain in morn. I packed some manure in new garden and set out some tomatoe plants got from Cousin Mary till the rain at 10 in morn. Willie up but not well.
Tue. 27th. Very cool and cloudy from NW and cleared off late in eve. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 12 1/2 and brought Carmel - her school is out. Dud and Wiley cut some bean sticks and hauled them and tore down and hauled the old negro house beyond branch for stove wood in morn. I planted some fine tomatoe seed on ditch in field in morn.
Wed. 28th. Clear and very cool early in morn but a beautiful and pleasant day. Willie and I put up 2 bean arbors in new garden and stuck the beans in morn. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn in Coon field in eve. I planted some nest egg squashes in field in poor ground in eve.
Thu. 29th. Clear and cool in morn and warmer in eve from SW. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn in Coon field today. I hilled Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and some in eve too.
Fri. 30th. Bright and warm. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn today and finished late in eve. I hilled irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them and hoed around and watered tomatoes in new garden in eve.
