CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS

Compiled by Charlou Dolan

 

There are two forms of probate records:  the original documents (usually folded and bound together in packets) and the copies in the assorted record books.  As far as probate courts are concerned, Connecticut is divided into districts, which do not correspond to either the townships or the counties.


Most of the original probate packages were deposited in Hartford, the state capital, where they were alphabetized, numbered and indexed.  After this indexing, the rest of the original records were deposited.  These were placed in their proper alphabetical positions, but they were not given numbers and they are not included in the index.  For the Hartford Probate District, for example, approximately two/thirds of the probate packets are not included in the index.  For this reason I have checked the films for each of the districts to be sure that I have found all the Cadwell probate packages. Only the older probate packages have been filmed.


The recorded probate records are also available, and exist even for some estates where the original documents have been lost.  The assorted will books and administration books have also been filmed for later estates, for which the original documents were not filmed.

Principally I Commit my Soul to God In hopes of the free forgiveness of all my
Sins Through the merits and Blood of the Redeemer and my Body to a Comely
Christian Burial in hopes of a glorious Resurrection at the Last day and as to
the worldly Interests God hath given me I dispose of in manner following my
Debts & funeral Charges being first paid -- Imprimis I give to my beloved wife
Hepzibah Cadwell the Improvements of one third part of my Dwelling house where
I now Live viz on the North part of the Same and also the Improvements of one
third part of all my Improvable Estate with Liberty to Cut her firewood in any
of my woodLand so far as She Shall need for her own fire without making havock
of the same so Long as She Shall Remain my widow--
Item  I give & bequeath to my son John Cadwell the Dwelling house where I now
Live his paying my Just Debts and the Legacies hereafter given.

way from the house above mentioned where David Vibbert now Lives.

Live or that given in this will to my son David Cadwell and Shall have their
support from my Estate Except what they can do to support themselves until
they shall arrive to Eighteen years of Age.

Posess, from the Estate, that my Honoured Mother Died posest of, and also all
the Estate that would accrue to my from my Honoured Grandfather Hubbards
estate, and it is my will that my Executor Provid and Cause Decent Pair of
Tombstones to be set at my Grave, the Cost to come out of what I have given to
said Executor.

Litchfield & state of Connecticutt in New England Being sick & weak in Body
but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God - calling to Mind the
mortality of my Body & knowing that it is appointed to all Men Once to Dye, Do
make & Ordain this my Last Will & Testament, That is to say principally &
first of all I give & Recommend my soul into the Hands of God who gave it & my
Body I Recommend to the Earth to be Buried in a decent Christian Burial at the
Discretion of My Executors, not doubting but at the general Resurrection I
shall Recieve the same again by the Almighty Power of God--And as to such

    Also I give to my Daughter Lydia Berham besides what I have given her Five
Pounds payable out of my Estate.
    Also I give to my Daughter Deborah Cadwell a right in my dwelling House
during her life or so long as she shall see fit. Also I give to her the full
sum of Ten Pounds Lawfull Money payable out of my estate.  The right of my
dwelling House mentioned above is only so far as is convenient for her
Residence in it during her Pleasure.
    Also I do hereby Ordain & appoint my younger son Ashbel Cadwell to be sole
Executor of this my Last Will & Testament & I do hereby utterly disallow,
revoke, & disannull all & every other former Testaments Wills Legacys,
Bequests, & Executors by me in any way before named willed & bequesthed,
Ratifying & Confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament.  In

1st set out to Matthew Cadwell eldest son to the deceased two eaqual parts in

and thanks be to God of enjoying my reason and memory calling to mind the
mortality of my soul and think it my duty to make this my last will and
Testament hereby revoking all former with Principally and First of all I give
my soul into the Hands of God my body also to the Earth to be buried in Decent
Christian burial doubting but at the Resurrection I shall receive the same by
the mighty power of God.  As to my worldly Interest that God has given me
after my Debts and Funeral Charges are paid I give to my wife Mary half my
household furniture one horse and two cows and six sheep Also the use of one

received of his portion six hundred and sixty dollars, Roger has received in
money and one year at a trade one hundred and eighty dollars, James has
received fifty Dollars in money, Martin has a deed of seven acres of land the
reduction for him as the land may be priced, Samuel has received nothing &
James must have three quarters as much as the others on the account of his
being at a trade near four years  I therefore give & bequeath to my said five
sons all my Estate real & personal except what I have herein given to my said
wife & daughters to be equally divided among them in equal shares deducting
from said shares what my said sons have before received aforesaid, so that
each of my said sons may have an equal share including what they have before
received as aforesaid.  And do hereby appoint my son Aaron Cadwell to be sole

     The Distribution of the Estate of James Cadwell late of Farmington dec'd
as made by the subscribers is as follows:
     In the first place we set out to the widow a piece of wood land
containing 73 acres and is situated at the west end of the home lot beginning
at the NW corner of the home lot and running N-87-E 16 rods to a birch tree
marked thence  S-45-E to a heap of stones on the south line of s'd home lot
which heap of stones is 97 rods and 5 links eastward from the SW corner of the
home lot.  This piece of land is not distributed among the heirs.
     We also set to widow for her use and improvement a piee of land at the SE
corner of the home lot containing 6 acres bounds west on the Creek east on
Peletiah Collins land and is in width from the south line of the lot 27 rods
now this piece is on land distributed to Aron.
     Also set to the widow a piece of land in the home lot on the south side
containing 5 acres and is in width 5 rods and 18 links and bounds east on the
brook and extends west 140 rods this is on land distributed to Samuel.
     Also set to the widow a piece of land in the home lot containing 5 acres
1/4 and 33 rods and is the north [?] side of a piece of land set to James
bounds east on the brook and extends west 140 rods and is in width 6 rods and
6 links.
     Also set to the widow a piece of land in the home lot being the south
side of a piece of land distributed to Roger containing 7 acres and 4 rods and
is in width 8 rods and 2 links bounds east on the brook and extends west 140
rods also a piece being the south side of land set to Martin containing 5
acres 3/4 and 28 rods width 6 rods and 19 links bound east on the brook and
extends west 140 rods.
     Also set to the widow the north half of the House except the west half of
the buttery also 1/3 of the south cellar on the south side to be divided east
and west also 1/3 of the north cellar on the north side to be divided east and
west also the south end of the kitchen for the purpose of weaving.  She is
also to have the privilege of the oven for baking  also to pass and repass to
and from the house for wood and watter and for all other necessary purposes.
Also in the barn she is to have the south half of the bay to be divided east
and west and the south half of the floor  Also the 2 linters [?] east and
south of the barn also the south half of the cowhouse west of the yard also
the east part of the yard from the <smudge> to the nearest corner of the
linter south of the barn with the privilege of going to and from the barn and
to pass through the floor and to and from the cowhouse.
     Set to Aron the east end of the home lot containing 15 acres 3/4 and 14
rods it being all the land in the home lot lying east of the brook and
includes 6 acres set to the widow.
     Also set to Aron the Mountain lot so called containing 32 acres 1/4 and
28 rods.
     Set to Samuel a piece of land on the south side of the home lot
containing 25 acres and 1/2 bounds east on the brook and west on land set to
the widow width 13 rods and 23 links the piece includes 5 acres set to the
widow.  Also set to Samuel all the buildings.
     Set to James a piece of land in the home lot containing 27 acres and 1/2
including 5 acres 1/4 and 33 rods set to the widow bounds east on the brook
west on land set to the widow south on Samuel and north on Roger and is in
width 14 rods and 12 links except at one place which place is on the west side
of the road and extends from the road west 18 rods and 1/2 it is 2 rods less.
     Set out to Roger a piece of land in the home lot containing 36 acres
including 7 acres and 4 rods set to the widow bounds east on the brook and
west on land set to the widow and is the next piece north of James share and
is in width 17 rods and 17 links except on the west side of the road and
extending 18 rods and 1/2 west it is 2 rods more.
     Set to Martin a piece of land in the home lot on the north side
containing 43 acres 1/4 and 14 rods including 5 acres 3/4 and 28 rods set to

     Viz To my honoured mother and my sister Huldah Tillotson and Naomi
Gridley I give & bequeath all the wearing appearal I may die possessed of, to
be divided between them equally:  or in case of the death of either of them

grandson Roderic Cadwell Steele if he shall live to the age of twenty one
years--then to be his and his heirs forever, but in case of his death before
he sahll arrive to the age of twenty one years, then I give and bequeath all
my said real estate to my sister Naomi Gridley to be hers and her heirs
forever.
     I also give and bequeath to my said sister Naomi Gridley the sole and
entire use and improvement of all my real estate, I may die possessed of,
untill my said grandson Roderic C. Steele shall arrive to the full age of

on the north side of s'd lot from the east to the west end so wide north and

     The widow's thirds in Theodores, Georges, and Abijah's lot in the marsh
is bounded as followeth began at a stake and stone on the south side of
Abijahs lot 20 rods east of the widows third in Johns lot then measured a
crost Abijahs lot to a stake and stone.  Then ran a crost Georges lot to a
stake and stone then ran a crost Theodores lot to a stake and stone which is
the north east corner of the third in s'd lot then measured west and on the
north side of Theodors lot 56 rods to a stake and stone which are the

dower in the real Estate of Maj'r Matthew Cadwell late of Farmington dec'd

Set out to s'd w'd Sophia a piece of land on the North side the farm on the
west side the Highway in width North & South at right angles 12 rods & 8 links
& to extend E & W the whole length of s'd Lott & bounds East on the Highway,
North on James Cadwells Heirs, West on the Wet end of s'd Lot, with 1/3 part
of the Cyder Mill standing thereon.
Also a piece of land on the East side the HIghway & on the North side the
Meadow in width North & South 10 rods & extends thro the whole length of s'd
lott, bounds north on James Cadwells Heirs and East on Solomon Allyn's Heirs
land & West on the highway.  Also a piece of land in the garden & on the West
side the same in width E & W 1 1/2 rod & extends N & S from fence to fence.
Also the North Room, the Chamber over the same, & Bedroom at the N.W. corner
of the house & 1/3 part of the Celler on the West side with liberty of Baking
& Washing in the Kitchen, of drawing water at the Well, with 1/3 part of the
buttery at the south end also nine feet on the South side the Barn to extend
from the East to the West end, & a barn yard in front of said Barn to extend
from s'd Barn southerly 2 rods & from the West end of s'd barn easterly 18
feet, with the privilege of passing to & from all the foregoing described
premises, to a full improvement of the same during the time she remains the
w'd of the s'd dec'd.
Reserving the right to Justus Cadwell of improving 2/3 of the Cyder Mill
standing on s'd premises so long as s'd Mill is improved he fencing the Mill

property as to make them equal with Pelatiah on account of a certain piece of
land which I deeded to him about the 5th of Nov 1805 containing two acres
situate at the South side of my home lot being nine rods wide the value of
said lot of two acres to be ascertained by the appraisal of indifferent men &
my property to be divided accordingly.
Item 5th  I do hereby constitute & appoint my son Horace Cadwell Executor of
this my last will & Testament.

containing about 7 1/2 acres and is in width at the east end about 3 chains
and 70 links the north line to run parallel with the north line of the lot and
extends west from the highway aout 24 chains boundes south on Hezekiah Parsons
land and north on Wm. W. Cadwell's land also another piece of land on the
south side of the lot and at the west end containing about 4 3/4 acres and is
in width at each end about 3 chains and 51 links also the land which the Barn
stands on Also the right of going to and from the land set to her at the west
end of the lot in the usual place.
Set out to Peletiah Cadwell 1/2 part of all the buildings Also a piece of land
at the South east corner of the home lot to contain one acre under the
incumbrance of the widow's dower in width about 95 links bounds South on Hez'h
Parsons land and north on land set out to Horace Cadwell the north line to be
parralell with the north line of the lot also another piece of land at the
west end of the lot on the south side incumbered with the widows dower
containing about 3/4 of an acre and 6 rods and in width about 48 links.
Set out to Horace Cadwell a piece of land on the north side of the lot
containing about 7 3/4 acres is 32? rods in width at each end one chain & 8
links extending the whole length of the lot also a piece of land at the west
end of the lot containing 1/4 of an acre and 35 rods in width about 68 links
bounds south on land set to the widow north on land set to Ira Cadwell  Also

1 we began and measured at the east end from mr. Goodwins corner two rods and
fore feet to a stake and ston runin thew the well to the west end and measured
from Goodwins southwest corner north twelve feet to a stake at the south
corner room and a third part of seller and a third part of the well set out to

2 then we went into the south medo and began next mr. John Leyan? and measured

Hartford to assign and set out to Chloe Cadwell widow of Aaron Cadwell late of
Bloomfield in said district deceased the use and improvement of one third part
of the real estate which said deceased stood possessed of at the time of his
death, to be to her during her natural life as right of dower therein.
     The subscribers appointed distributors have preceeded as follows viz:
Assigned and set out to the aforesaid Chloe Cadwell, the home or Fish farm so
called together with the buildings standing thereon, bounded south on Augustus
Shephards land, west on Augustus Shephard & others land and partly on Highway,
North on Ambrose Burr & Brothers, and others land and partly on highway and
East on George Humphreys and others land, a highway passing through the same
and contains one hundred acres of land be the same more or less.
     Also one other piee land, being a part of the Keys and Wills farm,
situate in the town of Hartford, laying about a mile south of the aforesaid
Fish farm, commencing at the center of the Pond, (so called) for the west line
of s'd piece running easterly with the north line of said farm about twenty
rods to a stake and stones, thence south to the south line of said farm, a
pile of stones being placed about a poplar tree, towards the south side of
said farm, thence westly to the center of the pond being about twenty rods,
thence north to the north line of said farm to the center of the pond the
place of the beginning, bounded west and east on land belonging to the heirs
of Aaron Cadwell dec'd, north on Alden Cadwells land, and south on Asa
Goodmans land, and containing about 9 acres with privilege of passing to and

I Edward Cadwell Sen'r of Hartford in the County of Hartford in the Colony of
Connecticut in New England Husbandman from a constant *** ***** of my own
mortality and have **** sett my house in order being grown into years being of
sound dispossing mem[  ] do now make this my last will and Testament in manner
and forme as follows.  That is to say Imprimis that my Just debts and funeral
Charges be paid by my Executro hereinafter named.
Item  I give and bequesth unto my beloved wife Elizabeth the use and
improvements of one third part of all my housing and lands during the terme of
her natural life, and also one third part of my personall or moveable estate
to be at her own dispose forever.  I also give her my negro or mulatto boy
Diego during the time my wife shall continue my widow and when that **** shall
terminate my will is my son William shall have him s'd Diego to be to him
forever.
Item  I give, grant and bequeath unto my son Edward Cadwell one piece of
upland near the north part of the township of Hartford and within the s'd
township containing about five or six acres be the same mpore or less, bounded
upon land of the heirs of Rich'd Lord Esq'r dec'd East and upon the west River
West also two acres of land little more or less in the south meadow in
Hartford aforesaid bounded East upon Col'l ___ridge his land West upon Cap't
Joseph Whiting South upon John Catlin North upon John Sheppard or lands
improved by Wm. Also one piece of land in s'd meadow (in the place called the
great pasture) containing about two acres butted upon the highway Est Land of
Mr. Nath'l Stanly South upon lands of the heris of Thomas Bunce ____ and also
one piece in the long meadow in s'd Hartford containing about one acre butted
upon the great River Easterly lands sometime since Improved by Thomas Olcott
dec'd North and NW Nathan'l Hanly South and Cap't Joseph Wadsworth West all
which parcells of land I give to my s'd son Edward and to his heirs and
assigns forever.  Also fifteen acres upland more or less lying in a great
parcel half whereof I have given him in deed butts on Deac Eatton heirs East
on ---- West etc --------- All the rest of my lands whatsoever and wheresoever
situate I give grant and bequeath unto my two sons the said Edward Cadwell and
my son William Cadwell to be equally divided between them with respect to both
quantity and quality to be to them their heirs and assigns forever
respectively in the proportion aforesaid without any regard in what I have
already by deed of Gift made over to them or either of them.
Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Elizabeth and Rachell to each
of them the sum of fifty pounds Reckoned as mony to be paid by my said sons in
currant mony with what I have already or hereafter in my life time shall pay
toward the said fifty pounds each or to be paid out of my moveable or personal
estate after my said wife hath had her thirds at the Inventory s'd price there
of (which they please) my said sons to pay the remainder of the said fifty
pounds if any want there be.  And if there shall happen a surplusage of
moveable or personal Estate of mine viz more than enough to pay the said fifty
pounds each to my said daughters, my will is that what remains there of shall
be equally divided between my said two daughters.
My Will further is that if either my son Edward or William shall happen to dye
without issue male of his body lawfully begotten that then the land hereby
given to that my said son so dying shall go and discend to my surviving son,
my son so surviving paying one fourth part of the value thereof to the
daughters of my son so dying if any be, or if there by none to her, and two
fourth part of said value to my two daughters aforesaid to be equally divided
between them.
And further my Will is that after my decease John Cadwell who now dwells with
and is bound to me, if I happen to dye before his time is out, shall go to my
son William according to the Indentures and that my s'd son William shall pay
the twenty pounds due by the said Indentures to the said John when his time is
out.  My Will also further is that if the said Diego happen to live, so that
by force of this my Will, he come to serve my said son William, my said son
William shall in consideration thereof pay to each of my two daughters or
their heirs the sum of five pounds currant money.  Lastly I appoint my said
two sons Executors of this my last Will and Testament.  In witness whereof I
have hereunto sett my hand & seal this second day of January anno R't R't

Memorandam that Edward & William Cadwel of Hartford in the County of Hartford
have hereby made partition between them for themselves their heirs & assigns
for ever of sundry lands to them belonging in Hartford afores'd in manner &
forme following viz  of one piece of meadow land lying on both sides of the
creek in the Long meadow it is agreed that the s'd William shall have his part
thereof beginning at the southern side thereof & extending northward to the
Creek ----- --- --- --- thereof & then to pass over the Creek & to proceed
northwardly untill it come to the land which was formerly bought of ---
Olmsted and the residue of the land northward viz that which was bought of
Olmsted afores'd the s'd Edward shall have for his part allowing liberty to
the s'd William to pass & repass through the same to his own land as his
necessary occasion shall call for to him the s'd William his heirs & assignes
for ever.
Item the s'd William shall have the eastern part of that Lott in the s'd long
meadow called the upper lott Beginning at the Great River & extending west
untill it include all th't hath been plowed in the s'd Lott and the Residue of
the s'd Lott shall be to the s'd Edward with all the Lott of upland adjoining
next westward upon it.
Item the s'd Edward shall have the whole of one Lott to them belonging at a
place called the West Division & the s'd Edlward his heirs &c shall for ever
maintain the whole of the common fence belonging to the upper most neck Lott.
Item the Lower Lott in the Long meadow Edward shall have the Southern half
thereof & William the northern halfe thereof.
Lastly one Lane --- Meadow called the fourty acres the s'd Edward shall have
that which Lyeth at the head of the Long Land & is parted therefrom by a path,
then Edward shall Begin at the east side & his part shall extend westward
untill it include one halfe of the Lott with what he first hath Taken at the
head of the Long Land before mentioned & the residue of the s'd Lott the s'd
William shall have for his part.  In confirmation where & in Testimony that

pounds 8 shilling and 10 pence and the widows third to come out of that.
     To Matthew Cadwell heir to the dec'd 2 1/2 acres and 20 rods of land
lying in the wood on the south side of the lot it being land that the dec'd
bouth of Mr. Prat and the widows third at the west end if the law alows of it
his right in the house is 2 pound 4 shilling and five pence and the widow
third out of it.
     To Ann Cadwell heir to the dec'd 2 acres and 16 rod of land in the home
lot in that part that was formerly Killoms Lot on the north side to begin at
the east end and to take half of the breadth and run west whilst make? s'd
Land by measure and the widow third to be taken at the west end of it and her
right in the house is 2 pounds 4 shilling and five pence and the widows third
to be taken out of it.
     To Abigaill Fox wife to Vaniah Fox, Heir to the dec'd 2 acres and 16 rods
of land in the home lot on that port of it that was formerly Kilborns Lot
beginning at the East end on the south side taking half the bredth and to run
west whilst s'd land is measured and the widows third to come out of the west
end of it and right in the house is 2 pounds 4 shiling and 5 pence and the

     To Ruth Risly wife to Nath'l Risly heir to dec'd 2 1/2 acres and 20 rod
of land in the woods on the north side of the home lot that the dec'd bought
of W'm Prat and the widows third [illegible] if the law alows of it to her

     To Dorothy Cadwell heir to the dec'd 2 acres and 16 rod of land in the

     To Susanah Cadwell heir to the dec'd 2 1/2 acres and 20 rods of land in

dec'd bought of Mr. Prat and the widows third out of it if the law alows of it
at the west end her part of the house is 2 pounds 4 shiling and 5 pence and

     To Luce Cadwell heir to the dec'd 2 1/2 acres and 20 rods of land lying
in wood north on land layd out to Ruth Risly and south on land layed out to

In the Name of God amen I Jonathan Cadwell of Hartford in the county of
Hartford & Colony of Connecticut this 27 day of May 1761.
     Being of sound mind and memory Blessed be God therefor taking into mind
my own mortality and knowing it is appointed for all men once to dye to make
and ordain this my last will and tewtament viz my Soul I Recommend to God who
Gave it and my Body to the Earth to a decent Christian Burial at the
Descretion of my Executor hereafter named touching such worldly Estate which
God hath Blessed me with I Give and Bequeath in the following manner and form.
     Imprimis I Give & Bequeath to Bethiah my well Beloved wife the one moiety
or half part of my Moveable Estate to be at her Dispose forever & also the
improvement of the one moiety or half of my REal Estate during her natural
life.
     Item  I give and Bequeath to Joanna Cadwell widow of my nephew Jonathan
the Improvement of one certain piece of Land that I bought of Zachariah Kelsey
containing about 6 acres further my will is that she shall have one room with
a fire place in my dwelling house during her widowhood   Further my will is
that she shall have a cow to her own disposle   further my will is that she
shall have three sheep to her own disposle.
     Item  I Give & Bequeath to Zacheus Butler Eldest son to Gideon Butler the
one moiety of half part of my moveable Estate to be at his disposl forever
except what I have given to Joanna Cadwell widow as above said.
     Item  I Give & Bequeath to Zacheus Butler my Dwelling house & Barn & all
other buildings & orchard joining to the house to him & his heirs & assigns
forever.
     Item  I Give & Bequeath to Timothy Cadwell son to Jonathan Cadwell
deceased the orchard that was formerly my Brother Jeams Cadwells provided he
lives to the age of 21 years these fore mentioned orchard shall contain land
Equally a like measure to be at his dispose forever.
     Item  I Give & Bequeath to Zaccheus Butler as aforesaid the one half of
the rest of this Lot that I Live upon to him his heirs & assigns forever.
     Furthermore my will is that Timothy Cadwell as aforesaid shall have the
other half of this Lot Equally Divided for quantity & quality between them to
him his heirs & assignes forever.
     And all my other land shall be equally divided between them for quantity
and quality to them & their heirs for ever provided the aforesaid Timothy
Cadwell does arive to the age of 21 years.
     Furthermore my will is that if the aforesaid Timothy Cadwell does not
arive to the age of 21 years that part that was given to him shall be Zacheus
Butlers as aforesaid his & his heirs forever.
     Furthermore my will is the aforesaid Timothy Cadwell if he lives to age
of 21 years shall have a horse & a yoke of oxen & my still.
     Item  I hereby Will & bequeath to the Daughter of my s'd nephew Jonathan
Cadwell dec'd to Anne I suppose her name to be 20<?> pounds Lawful Money out
of my moveable Estate to be paid her by my Executor within one year after my
decease and the hores & oxen & my still given to Timothy Cadwell aforesaid, if
he should die before he arrive to 21 years & the s'd Anne survive then s'd

In the name of God Amen
I Ruth Cadwell of Hartford in the County of Hartford being of sound and
disposing mind and memory but weak in body and knowing that I am born to die
do make this my last Will and Testament and first commending my Soul into the
hands of God who gave it hoping through the Merits of a Crucified Savior for a
free pardon of all my sins and an admission in those Joys which are prepared
for them that our sanctified and as to such worldly goods as it has pleased
Almighty God to bestow to bestow [sic] upon me in this life I give & bequeath
in the manner following viz after my just debts & funeral charges are paid I
give & bequeath unto my loving sister Susannah Cadwell & to her heirs and
assigns forever all my land lying in the Creek Lot so called lying near the
Meadow Gate.
     Item I give unto my said sister Susannah Cadwell the Use and improvement
of all my Estate both Real & personal during the term of her Natural life.
     Item after the death of my said sister I give unto my niece Rachel
Wadsworth the use & improvement of my Real Estate during the time she shall
remain the widow of Eli Wadsworth and no longer.
     Item after the death of my said sister Susannah Cadwell I give all my
personal Estate to my three loving cozens Lucy, Nancy, and Caty Wadsworth,
daughters of the s'd Rachel to be equally divided between them.
     Item after the death of my said sister and the death or marriage of the
said Rachel Wadsworth I give and bequeath unto William Wadsworth the son of
the said Rachel all my lands and buildings in the homestead where I now live
to him his heirs & assigns forever.
     Item after the death of my said sister and the death or marriage of the
said Rachel I give and bequeath unto my niece Jerusha Hutchinson all my lands
lying over the Hog River at or near the first hill to her her heirs and
assigns forever.
     Item after the death of my said sister and after the marriage or death of
my said niece Rachel Wadswroth I give all my Real Estate not before herein
devised to my three cousins the s'd Lucy Nancy & Caty to them their heirs and
assigns forever to be equally divided between them.  And I do hereby make
ordain & appoint my sister Susanna Cadwell & the s'd Rachel Wadsworth
Executors of this my last Will & Testament herby revoking & making void all
former wills & bequeath and Establishing this only  In Testimony whereof I
have hereunto [set] my hand & seal this Eight day of February A.D. 1791
