SEPTEMBER 1919

Mon. Sep. 1st. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from N and no sign of rain. Dud and Wiley and hands began and picked cotton today. Wiley sent Tom Gaulden for his molasses mill today. I packed manure from wood pile and stables and put in new garden for turnips in morn. Marion returned from Mrs. James' in eve and brought Annabel and Jack DeLoach.

Tue. 2nd. Bright and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve and cloudy some from E. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton. Willie cut down briars and bushes in calf pasture in morn and he and Marion sawed a big beech log out NW of here in eve. Marion and Nellie drove Buck to town in morn. I hoed in new garden on E side in morn and brought some tomatoes from field.

Wed. 3rd. Bright and cool in morn and warm in eve. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Willie and Marion sawed and split beech log out NW of here today. I planted some radishes and hoed some in new garden in morn.

Thu. 4th. Warmer and cloudy some today - wind from E. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Willie and Marion sawed and split beech wood today. Carmel and Annabel drove Buck to town for Carmel to stand an examination today and returned at 5 1/2 in eve. I hoed Irish potatoes on W side of garden in morn.

Fri. 5th. Bright but cloudy some and warm from E. Willie and Marion sawed and split beech wood in morn and Willie salted cattle on creek in eve. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today and hauled all picked in eve in 2 loads. I hoed Irish potatoes in new garden and finished them and planted 4 rows of turnips there in morn. Carmel and Annabel drove Buck to town in morn to examination and returned at dusk.

Sat. 6th. Bright and warm in morn and we had 3 little showers from SE at 3 to 4 in eve and needed too. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town early in morn to an examination and returned at 5 1/2 in eve.

Sun. 7th. Bright most of day but rained around some in eve and only dropped a little here. Frank Rogers and Bernice came in an auto at dusk on yesterday and left at 2 in eve. Carmel and Annabel and Marion went to SS in eve and Ernest D and Martin Chambers came back with them.

Mon. 8th. Bright and warm till after sunset and a cloud came up from SE and rained a good shower here at dusk. I cut most of okra off stalks in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and brought Sims here just before rain at dusk.

Tue. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and no rain in sight. Carmel and Charles and Annabel drove Buck to Mrs. James' in morn. I hunted hens' nests in morn. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today.

Wed. 10th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Sims still here. I got wood for Mary to wash early in morn and killed worms on tomatoes and pepper and eggplants in new garden in morn and saved some pimento seed.

Thu. 11th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Marion drove Buck to town in morn and carried Sims to stay there till next Mon. I brought some tomatoes from field in morn and picked up a few pecans.

Fri. 12th. Bright and very warm most of day and wind from NE and we had a good little shower at dusk from SE. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton in morn and hauled in some corn in eve and cotton too. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in morn. Joe and Marie Miller came in an auto at 12 1/2 and left late in eve. I packed 6 turns of hen and stable manure in new garden in morn and put on turnip and radish patch.

Sat. 13th. Bright but some dark clouds and windy from E and SE all day and night too but no rain. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and Dud and Wiley drove wagon and carried some new corn to mill and all returned in eve. I brought some tomatoes from field in morn and picked up some pecans.

Sun. 14th. Bright but some dark clouds and windy from SE but no rain. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Willie and me.

Mon. 15th. Bright most of day and little showers passed around S from SE of here in eve but no rain here. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Willie made a body to wagon in morn and they loaded wagon with cotton late in eve. I hoed mustard and radishes and turnips in new garden in morn and picked up some pecans in eve.

Tue. 16th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight today. Wiley drove wagon and carried a load of cotton to town in morn early and gin was not running and he left the cotton and returned at 12 1/2. Willie rode Buck to town. I picked up some pecans today.

Wed. 17th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. Willie cleaned out barn and pulled and packed in some corn from patch N of here today. I got some okra from garden and some tomatoes from field in morn.

Thu. 18th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton. Willie worked road at gate in front of Dud's house and pulled and packed in some corn from patch N of here today and they loaded wagon with cotton late in eve. I picked all of ripe pepper in garden and carried to Mrs. Lanehart's in morn.

Fri. 19th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley went on load of cotton and Willie rode Buck to town to gin in morn and they got the 2 bales of cotton ginned and returned late in eve and hauled cotton from field. I got okra from garden and tomatoes from field in morn.

Sat. 20th. Cloudy and warm and wind from S and rained around W of here at 9 in morn to 1 1/2 in eve but none here. We had a sprinkle here late in eve. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town early in morn and they went in a car to Morris Ford's for Carmel to teach school and Willie returned late in eve. Charles and Carl and I brought some canes from field by 9 1/2 in morn. Rena and Nellie and Jack drove Hal here in morn and left in eve.

Sun. 21st. Bright but thunder showers passed around some today but none here. All went to SS in eve but Nellie - she is sick - and me. Katie James and Lucile and little Jack came at dusk last night.

Mon. 22nd. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Wiley pulled corn in Coon field in morn and hauled all in 2 loads with 2 mules and 2 horses in eve. I hoed part of Irish potatoes in new garden in morn and picked up pecans in eve.

Fri. 23rd. Cool and cloudy and wind from NE and no rain in sight. Willie and Wiley hauled in 4 loads of corn from Coon field today and Dud and 2 of Phil's boys pulled the corn. I hoed balance of Irish potatoes in new garden and brought home some tomatoes and okra too in morn and picked up pecans in eve.

Wed. 24th. Bright and cool from NE and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Wiley pulled and hauled in 3 loads of corn from Coon field today and cracked one hind wheel in eve and prevented them from hauling a 4th load. I threshed the pecan trees at plum thicket in morn and got 1 p'k and picked up some in eve.

Thu. 25th. Bright and cool from N and no rain in sight. Wiley drove the wagon to town early in morn and had wheel put up and returned at dark. Dud and 2 of Phil's boys pulled corn in Coon field all day. I threshed and gathered over a peck of pecans today.

Fri. 26th. Bright and cool in morn and warm in eve and very dry. Willie and Dud and Wiley hauled 5 loads of corn from Coon field today. I threshed and gathered over a peck of pecans today.

Sat. 27th. Bright and cool early in morn and warm in eve and very dry. Willie and Dud and Wiley hauled in one load of corn from Coon field and cotton from field in morn and Willie and Wiley drove Buck to town in eve. I gathered one peck of pecans today.

Sun. 28th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Minnie and Charles and Carl went to SS in eve.

Mon. 29th. Bright and cool early in morn and warm and very dry in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley pulled corn in Coon field today. I gathered pecans most of day. Willie and I put 2 of wagon wheels in branch to swell them in eve.

Tue. 30th. Clear and very dry. Willie and Dud and Wiley hauled corn all day from Coon field. I gathered about one p'k of pecans today.
