SEPTEMBER 1918

Sun. Sep. 1st. Bright and very warm all morn and rained around some in thunder showers in eve but only dropped a little here. Willie and Minnie and children all went to SS in eve. Carl and I went to tomatoe patch in morn and got a few persimmons. Marion and Carmel drove Buck to town to preaching late in eve.

Mon. 2nd. Bright and very warm and no rain near today. Willie and Marion picked cotton today. I replanted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn. Nellie and Minnie drove Buck to town to a Red Cross meeting in eve. Willie and Marion and Dud loaded our wagon with cotton late in eve to take to gin on tomorrow.

Tue. 3rd. Bright and warm all morn and a thunder cloud came up from SW at 1 but only sprinkled a little here and cloudy most of eve and clear at night. Willie drove Buck to buggy and Marion drove our wagon and Dud drove Wiley's team and wagon to town and carried one bale of Willie's cotton and one bale of Dud's to gin and returned just after dark. I replanted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 4th. Bright in morn and very warm and rained around some in eve but none here except a sprinkle. Willie and Marion picked cotton today. I replanted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn. Thu. 5th. Cloudy and dropped rain and sprinkled slowly till 8 in morn and again just after dark and cool from NW at night. Nellie and Marion drove Buck to town in morn. Willie and I shucked and shelled 2 bu of corn in morn and Willie and Marion picked cotton in eve. Bernice and little Nellie came at 2 in eve.

Fri. 6th. Cloudy and cool from N and no rain. Willie and Marion picked cotton today and drove up cattle from creek and put in pasture in eve to dip tomorrow. I hoed around fig and peach trees out E of here in morn. Wiley and Dago carried 2 loads of Wiley's cotton to gin today and returned at 9 1/2 at night. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Stockett's to a dance at night.

Sat. 7th. Bright and cool from N and no rain in sight. Willie and Marion dipped cattle early in morn and hauled in a load of cotton and Willie drove Buck to town in eve and returned at dark with meal. I hoed around pear trees out E of here in morn. Annabel came home with Carmel and Marion from dance early in morn.

Sun. 8th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from N. Charles and Carl and I got a few persimmons in morn and brought some tomatoes from patch. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve. Joe Miller here late in eve.

Mon. 9th. Clear and cool and dry from NE. Willie and Marion picked cotton most of day and helped Wiley to load up wagon with corn just after dinner. I hoed and picked grass out of slips E of here in morn.

Tue. 10th. Bright and cool from NE. Willie and Marion picked cotton in morn. George Fugler came at 11 in morn and he and Willie and Carmel and Annabel went in his car to town in eve. Hal was sick there and they came back late in eve. I hoed and picked grass out of slips E of here in morn and some in eve too.

Wed. 11th. Bright and cool from NE and dry. Willie and Marion picked cotton in morn. I hoed and picked grass out of slips E of here in morn and some in eve. George Fugler took Carmel and Annabel to Lewis' in morn and took Nellie and Minnie and Charles and Carl to Dixie's in eve and he took Carmel and Annabel to town late in eve to picture show. Marion went in buggy and brought the girls home at night.

Thu. 12th. Bright and cool in morn and warm in eve and a thunder cloud in sight in N at night. Willie rode Buck to Turnbull's early in morn. I picked grass and weeds out of slips E of here in morn. Julia mule took sick early in morn and Minnie and Marion and I drained her - began at 11 in morn and kept it up all eve and most of night - and Willie came home at 4 in eve and sent Marion to town for medicine for the mule. George Fugler took Nellie and Charles to Wiley's early in morn.

Fri. 13th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie sat up with the sick mule all night and she died at 9 in morn. Marion picked cotton in morn. I picked grass out of slips E of here in morn. Willie had pain in head and jaw at night and slept but little.

Sat. 14th. Bright and warm and dry. George Fugler brought Nellie and Rena and Charles and Julia Mathis from Wiley's in morn and they left late in eve. I picked grass out of slips in patch N of here in morn. Marion drove Buck to town in eve.

Sun. 15th. Bright and warm after 9 in morn - foggy till then. Willie and I grabbled a few potatoes in field and brought some tomatoes from there in morn. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion and Annabel went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 16th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie rode big mule to town early in morn to try to trade her and came back late in eve. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to town early in morn - school began. I picked grass out of slips N of here in morn and some in eve too.

Tue. 17th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie picked cotton today. I picked grass out of slips in patch N of here in morn and finished that patch and Charles and Carl and I brought some yams from field by 11 1/2 .

Wed. 18th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie picked cotton today. I picked grass out of slips in patch E of here in morn and some in eve too.

Thu. 19th. Cloudy and warm and we had a little shower at 1 in eve and another just before night and began to rain slowly at midnight and lasted all night. Willie picked cotton in morn and helped Wiley to load up some hogs late in eve and Wiley carried them out to his home in night. I picked grass and weeds out of slips E of here in morn and brought some yams and tomatoes from field by 11.

Fri. 20th. It rained slowly from N from midnight (last) till 10 in morn - a good rain in all and much needed too - and bright and very cool in eve from N. Willie put our calves in Gate cut patch in morn. Marion and Carmel went to school in rain early in morn. I picked up a few pecans in morn and in eve too.

Sat. 21st. Clear and very cool early in morn from NE. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned late in eve. I packed 2 bbls of ashes and some stable manure in old garden and put between rows of Irish potatoes by 10 in morn and Charles and I brought some yams and tomatoes from field by 11 1/2. George Fugler and Julia Mathis and Bernice came in auto at 2 in eve and left at 5 1/2.

Sun. 22nd. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve. Nora came for Nellie at 12. Mrs. Lanehart is sick. Willie and Minnie and children went to SS in eve, all but Marion. He drove Buck to town in eve and brought Lucile to teach school.

Mon. 23rd. Bright and very cool early in morn and warmer in eve. Willie picked cotton today. Lucile began her school today. I packed stable manure in old garden and put between rows of Irish potatoes in morn and brought some yams and tomatoes from field by 11 1/2.

Tue. 24th. Bright but some clouds and warmer today. Willie picked cotton awhile in morn and got up Daisie from pasture and rode her to town in eve. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 25th. Bright but cloudy some all morn and we had a good rain at 3 1/2 to 4 in eve from SW with some thunder and much needed too. Willie rode Daisy on creek and put some cows into our pasture. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them by 9 3/4 and brought some yams and tomatoes from field.

Thu. 26th. Cloudy and a little cool but no rain. Willie and Dud cut and split some pine wood in field today. I hoed East side of new garden (where mustard and turnips are) in morn.

Fri. 27th. Cloudy and cool from N and dropped rain a little after dark. Willie and I shucked and shelled one bbl of bread corn in morn. Dud hauled wood from Wiley's all day with big Ella and Ned

and finished it late in eve.

Sat. 28th. Cloudy and very cool and damp like from N all day. Willie drove Buck to buggy and Dud drove wagon to town (Ned and big Ella mule) in morn and returned in eve with meal and flour. I brought some yams and tomatoes from field in morn.

Sun. 29th. Clear and cool from N. Willie and Minnie and children and Lucile walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 30th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool in morn and warm in eve. Dud drove wagon to Mrs. Morris' early in morn and brought the pea puller by 10 in morn and he and Bee Martin pulled corn (in pocket) balance of day. Willie and I took old corn out of barn and put in cotton house early in morn and I brought some yams and tomatoes from field by 10 1/2. Willie pulled hay in eve.
