SEPTEMBER 1916

Fri. Sep. 1st. Bright and warm and dry. A thunder cloud passed around E from SE late in eve but none here. Dud split pine wood. Willie and Marion picked cotton in morn. Lanehart here in eve to see Sandy, he has foot evil. I picked pepper and got tomatoes in field in morn. Willie rode Daisie in eve and put cattle in pasture.

Sat. 2nd. Bright and warm and dry and a rain passed around S from SE in eve but none here. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped cattle in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve and brought Mattie James back with him. I hoed in slips in morn.

Sun. 3rd. Bright and warm till 2 1/2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up very near just S of here and rained a good rain not far off but none here. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Charles and Carl and me.

Mon. 4th. Bright and warm and dry till 3 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from E at 3 1/2 and we had a good soaking rain and slowly till 6 and very much needed too. Willie and I picked cotton in morn. Marion sick and took Calomel in morn. Clarence L here in eve.

Tue. 5th. Bright and warm in morn and a thunder cloud came up from NE at 2 in eve and we had a good shower till 3 1/2 and bright late in eve. Willie patched up pasture fence in morn and he and Marion weather-boarded shed side of new barn in eve. I hoed in slips in morn.

Wed. 6th. Bright and warm all day and no rain here but a thunder cloud passed around NE of here from E at dusk. Willie and Dud repaired wire fence on E side of Willie's field today. I hoed in slips in morn.

Thu. 7th. Bright and warm most of day and a thunder cloud passed around from E at 4 in eve but only sprinkled a little here. Willie and Dud cut and hauled posts around Gate cut patch in morn and repaired fence there in eve. I hoed in slips in morn.

Fri. 8th. Bright and warm and no rain near today. Willie and Dud repaired wire fence around Gate cut in morn and finished it and Dud cut pine wood in eve and Willie picked cotton. I hoed in slips in morn. Lucille and Annabel James came in morn.

Sat. 9th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie drove Daisie to town in morn and rode her to see cattle in eve. I hoed in slips in morn. Carmel and Marion and Lucille and Mattie and Annabel James and Rubie all went to Wiley's late in eve and came back at 10 at night.

Sun. 10th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from SE at dark and we had a good rain and needed too. All went to SS but Nellie and Charles and Carl - they went to Wiley's.

Mon. 11th. It began to rain slowly at daylight in morn and lasted till 11 and quit and bright but cloudy some all eve. We didn't work today. Lucille and Annabel James went home in eve.

Tue. 12th. Cloudy all morn and bright in eve and warm. Willie and Marion and Dud picked cotton in morn and Willie and Dud in eve. Marion and Carmel drove Daisie to town in eve. I hoed slips in morn and shucked and shelled 5 1/2 p'ks of corn in eve.

Wed. 13th. Bright and a little cool and no rain in sight. Willie and Marion and Dud picked cotton today. I hoed in slips in morn and ------ the corn for bread.

Thu. 14th. Bright and cool from N. Willie and Marion and Dud picked cotton today and hauled in all picked late in eve. I hoed in slips in morn and let Ed Wells have 10 p'ks of pears at 11 to 12 and he owes for 1 bus.

Fri. 15th. Bright and cool from N. Willie and Dud pulled corn from Gate cut in morn and Dud hauled it in 2 loads in eve and Willie rode Daisie to put cattle in pasture. I hoed in slips in morn and winnowed bread corn in eve.

Sat. 16th. Bright, but cloudy some, and cool from NE. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped cattle in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve and carried Mattie James and some new corn to mill. I hoed in slips in morn and put a new bolt in corn mill in eve.

Sun. 17th. Bright and cool from N. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion walked to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there. Elma came in eve to teach tomorrow.

Mon. 18th. Bright and cool from N. Willie and Dud and Henry pulled corn all day. Minnie and Carmel and Marion and little Wiley went to high school in morn and returned at 1 1/2 in eve. Elma taught school here today. I hoed in slips in morn.

Tue. 19th. Clear and cool and dry from N. Willie and Dud and Henry pulled and hauled in corn. I hoed in slips in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Daisie to school in morn and returned after sunset.

Wed. 20th. Clear and cool and dry from N. Willie and Dud pulled corn all day and Henry pulled in morn and sick in eve. I hoed in slips in morn and hunted a sow with young pigs in pasture in eve but didn't find her. Carmel and Marion drove Daisie to school in morn and returned at 5 in eve.

Thu. 21st. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud and Henry hauled in corn all day. I hoed slips in morn and hunted sow in pasture in eve but didn't find her.

Fri. 22nd. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud pulled and hauled in corn all day. I hoed in slips in morn and fed one sow (with young pigs) in Lanehart's pasture and one toward creek (with young pigs) in eve.

Sat. 23rd. Bright and cool and dry. Willie rode to Ogden's in morn and drove Daisie to town in eve. I hoed most of old garden in morn.

Sun. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and warmer and dry. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn and Charles and Carl went with me. Willie and Minnie and Marion and Carmel walked to SS in eve. Earl brought Elma just as we were going to bed.

Mon. 25th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and Dud pulled corn all day. I hoed up grass in onion bed in NW corner of old garden and grabbled some potatoes in morn.

Tue. 26th. Bright, but a thunder cloud passed around E from SE at 1 1/2 in eve, but only sprinkled a little here. Willie and Dud and William Hood pulled and hauled corn today. I hoed up grass in onion bed in NW corner of old garden in morn.

Wed. 27th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight today. Willie and Dud and William pulled and hauled in corn today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash and shelled some bread corn in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Thu. 28th. Bright and warm till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 5 1/2 and we had a good rain till 6 1/4 and much needed too and turned very cool from N. Willie and Dud and William pulled and hauled in corn today. I pulled up grass between rows of old strawberries in old garden in morn.

Fri. 29th. Clear and very cool from W of N. Dud drove wagon to Mrs. Morris' early in morn and returned at 9 in morn with a pea hay puller and he and Willie and William pulled pea hay balance of day. Willie and William put cattle in pasture early in morn. Carl and I picked up nearly 1/2 pk of pecans early in morn and I grabbled some potatoes and winnowed some bread corn in eve.

Sat. 30th. Clear and very cool from NE. Willie and Dud and Marion dipped cattle early in morn and Willie and Dud pulled pea hay at 9 to 11 in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve and carried 6 p'ks of corn and got it ground. I hoed grass out of strawberries in old garden early in morn and grabbled some potatoes at 10 to 11.
