OCTOBER 1919

Wed. Oct. 1st. Bright and warm and dry. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve and rode Sandy in eve on creek to hunt cattle and drove up a spotted cow with a young calf. Dud and Wiley pulled corn in Coon field today. I gathered pecans today.

Thu. 2nd. Bright and warm and very dry. Willie and Dud and Wiley hauled in corn from Coon field most of day and loaded wagon with cotton late in eve to gin. I gathered pecans most of day.

Fri. 3rd. Cloudy and a damp S wind all morn and began to rain in thunder showers at 1 in eve and lasted till dark and we had enough in all to wet ground about one inch for it was very dry and deep too. Dud drove wagon and Willie rode Sandy to town and ginned one bale of cotton and returned in eve and hauled cotton from field late in eve. I gathered pecans in morn.

Sat. 4th. Cloudy and warm and a damp wind from S and rained several times in eve and some at night but not enough to wet ground. Willie drove Buck and Wiley drove wagon to town and ginned a bale of cotton and Willie returned at 2 and Wiley returned at dark. I gathered pecans in morn.

Sun. 5th. Cloudy and a cloud came up from NW at 11 in morn and we had a good soaking rain till 12 and slowly most of eve. Gordon dined here and left late in eve. Luster James and Lucile came after dark and Luster went back home in the night.

Mon. 6th. Bright but cloudy some all day but no rain. Dud and Wiley pulled corn in Coon field. Willie threshed pecans today and we gathered one bbl off tree by hen shed.

Tue. 7th. Bright in morn and cloudy all eve and rained around in thunder showers and we had a little slow rain late in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley pulled and hauled in last of corn from Coon field in morn and Dud and Wiley pulled corn in home field in eve. Willie and I gathered pecans most of eve and I gathered in morn.

Wed. 8th. Bright in morn and cloudy all eve and rained some in eve and warm from S. Dud and Wiley pulled corn in home field today. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day.

Thu. 9th. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and rained around in little showers in eve but none here and very warm. Dud and Wiley pulled corn in home field in morn and they and Willie hauled all eve and finished last of corn. Willie and I gathered pecans in morn and I picked up pecans in eve.

Fri. 10th. Bright but cloudy some and warm from S and no rain. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve with a new buggy. Dud and Wiley and hands picked cotton today. I hoed in new garden on W side and planted some turnips there in morn.

Sat. 11th. Cloudy and rained a shower at 9 to 10 in morn and warm and cloudy some all eve from S. Dud and Wiley hauled in cotton from field early in morn and went to Ogden's mill and back by 12. Willie and Charles drove Sandy to new buggy to town in eve. I packed 1/2 bbl of ashes in new garden early in morn and put on the turnip ground planted on yesterday.

Sun. 12th. It rained most of morn and hard in eve - a big rain in all - from SW - and some little far off thunder. Nora and Edith brought Nellie home in eve and dined here and left just after dinner.

Mon. 13th. Cloudy some all day and a sprinkle of rain in eve and warm from S. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day. Dud and Wiley picked peas in eve.

Tue. 14th. Bright in morn and some in eve and warm from S and no rain but thundered some in eve. Dud and Wiley and hands picked peas today. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day.

Wed. 15th. Bright, and warm, and no rain but thundered some in eve and at night. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day. Dud and Wiley and hands picked peas today and hauled them to Wiley's late in eve.

Thu. 16th. Bright till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from SW and W and began to rain at dark and lasted till in the night - a big rain. Dud and Wiley and hands picked peas. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day.

Fri. 17th. Cloudy and no sun,and very cool from N and misted rain till 9 in morn. Willie drove the 2 grey mules to new buggy and went to Morris Ford's early in morn and brought Carmel at dark. I picked up nearly 2 1/2 p'ks of pecans today.

Sat. 18th. Bright and cool from N. Dud and Wiley hauled in their peas early in morn and Willie and Carmel and Lucile drove the mules to new buggy to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve. Charles and Carl and I picked up pecans till 11 in morn and I winnowed all of pecan (8 bbls.) by 3 in eve.

Sun. 19th. Bright and cool early in morn and warmer in eve. Willie drove the mules to new buggy and carried Carmel to Morris Ford's early in morn and returned at 8 in night. Minnie and Charles and Carl went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 20th. Bright but cloudy some and warm from S. Dud and hands picked peas. Wiley cut pea hay in Gate cut with Lanehart's mowing machine all day with mules and finished it. Willie and I gathered pecans in morn and I in eve. Willie drove over creek in eve to get pea pickers.

Tue. 21st. Warm and bright in morn and a thunder cloud came up from W in eve at 3 1/2 and rained a slow rain till 4 1/2 and quit. Dud and hands picked peas in morn. Willie and Wiley hauled 3 loads of split beech wood from N of patch N of here early in morn and Wiley raked all of pea hay in Gate cut by 12 3/4 and they hauled in 3 loads of hay before rain in eve. I hoed mustard and turnips and set out some strawberry plants on east side of new garden in morn and watered them in eve.

Wed. 22nd. Cloudy all day and rained here slowly most of day. Willie and I picked up some pecans in morn and Sam and Joe from Lanehart's came just after dinner and threshed a few pecans and rain stopped us in less then one hour.

Thu. 23rd. Foggy till 9 in morn and bright and warm till 12 and cloudy all eve from SW and began to sprinkle rain at 3 and we had a hard rain just before dark. Willie and I and 6 negro boys threshed and gathered pecans most of day and got over 2 bbls.

Fri. 24th. Foggy till 9 1/2 in morn and bright balance of day and no rain and warm. Willie rode Sandy and Wiley drove the wagon and carried the pecans to town - over 1300 pds. - and sold to Cohen for $200 and returned at 3 1/2 in eve. I picked up 1/2 bu of pecans today - one bucket in morn and one in eve.

Sat. 25th. Foggy and wet till 9 in morn and bright and warm balance of day and no rain. Dud and Wiley hauled in peas in morn and Willie drove Sandy to town in eve and Wiley went with him. I picked up 1/2 bu of pecans today - one bucket in morn and one in eve.

Sun. 26th. Foggy till 9 in morn and bright and warm balance of day from S and no rain. Minnie and Lucile and Charles and Carl drove Sandy to SS in eve.

Mon. 27th. Bright and warm from S and no rain. Willie and Dud and Wiley hauled in last of pea hay from Gate cut in morn and Dud and Wiley and hands picked peas in eve. Willie made a gap and put his hogs in Coon field in eve. I picked up pecans most of day and got nearly 1/2 bu.

Tue. 28th. Bright and warm from S and no rain. Dud and Wiley and hands picked peas. Willie and I gathered pecans most of day.

Wed. 29th. Warm and cloudy some all day from SE and sprinkled rain several times in eve. Willie gathered last of corn in patch N of here and packed it in in morn and hauled in peas in eve and threshed some pecans. I picked up pecans most of day.

Thu. 30th. Warm and cloudy some all day and sprinkled rain several times and we had a big shower late in eve. Wiley and hands picked cotton and Dud and hands picked peas. Willie and I gathered pecans today.

Fri. 31st. Cloudy some all day but bright and warm most of morn and thundered around most of eve but only dropped a little here but rained some in night. Willie and I gathered pecans in morn and Willie and Dud hauled in peas and cotton in eve late.
