OCTOBER 1916

Sun. Oct. 1st. Clear and cool from E. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn and Wiley took Bernice to her school in eve. Bro Tom came in morn and brought his 2 little girls for school. Minnie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 2nd. Clear and cool. Willie and Dud and William hauled in pea hay till late in eve and finished and filled the new barn and they hauled in a load of corn (already pulled down) late in eve. I hoed grass out of strawberries in old garden and grabbled some potatoes in morn.

Tue. 3rd. Clear and cool and dry. Willie repaired hog pen at cow pen and made a shoot to it in morn and Dud carried the pea puller home by 10 in morn and Willie and Dud and William and Henry hauled in corn balance of day. I hoed grass out of strawberries in old garden till 10 in morn and Carl and I picked up 1/2 p'k of pecans.

Wed. 4th. Clear and cool and dry. Dud drove wagon and Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and carried 6 young hogs and Willie sold to Henly at 7 1/2 cts and they returned at 12 and Dud pulled corn with William and Henry in eve (they pulled in morn) and Willie repaired hog pen in eve and put up 7 more hogs late in eve to sell tomorrow. Carl and I picked up pecans in morn and eve too.

Thu. 5th. Cloudy and windy from E all day and clear all night. Dud carried 6 more hogs to town in morn and Willie rode Sandy and sold the hogs to Henly at 7 1/2 cts and they returned at 11 1/2 and William and Henry pulled corn in morn and all hauled in 5 loads in eve. I threshed the little pecan tree in SE corner of grove and Carl and I got 1/2 p'k of big ones there in morn.

Fri. 6th. Bright and warm. Willie and Dud and William and Henry pulled corn in patches N and E of here in morn and finished and hauled in 5 loads from both patches and one from field in eve and finished all of corn. I hoed grass out of strawberries in old garden in morn.

Sat. 7th. It began to rain slowly at daylight and lasted till 8 1/2 in morn - a pretty good rain - and cloudy some all day and warm. Willie drove Daisie to Hunt place and brought Katie James here by 11 3/4. I cut up wood and picked up pecans in morn.

Sun. 8th. Bright and warm. Willie drove Daisie to Hunt place and carried Katie James in eve. Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's.

Mon. 9th. Bright and warm. Willie rode Sandy and Dud drove wagon and carried a load of cotton to town in morn and got it ginned and sold and they returned late in eve. I got Sandy from pasture early in morn and grabbled some potatoes and picked up some pecans - 1/2 p'k.

Tue. 10th. Cloudy and windy from NE early in morn and bright and cool in eve and clear at night. Willie and Dud carried another load of cotton to town early in morn and returned at 8 1/2 at night with the seed. Carl and I picked up pecans in morn and in eve too.

Wed. 11th. Clear and cool from NE. Willie and some hands picked peas in patch E of here today. Carl and I picked up pecans today.

Thu. 12th. Bright and warmer today. Willie and hands picked peas in patch E of here and in patch N of here today and hauled them late in eve. I threshed and Carl and I picked up one p'k of pecans in morn. Elma sick but taught school today.

Fri. 13th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and hands picked peas today and hauled them late in eve. Willie put cattle in pasture in eve. Katie James came with Carmel and Marion late in eve. I threshed 2 pecan trees and Charles and Carl and I picked up one p'k of pecans in morn. Elma sick but taught school today.

Sat. 14th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped cattle early in morn. Marion and Katie James drove Daisie to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve. Willie rode Sandy on creek to hunt a brown heifer in eve but didn't find her. I threshed 2 pecan trees in morn and got one p'k.

Sun. 15th. Bright and warm and dry but some dark clouds in eve. George and Jack Stockett came in morn and left at 2 1/2 with Katie James. Willie and Carmel and Marion walked to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's.

Mon. 16th. Cloudy and warm from S and we had a shower at 8 in morn and a big rain at 11 to 12 and a shower at 4 in eve and wet ground well and much needed. I threshed a tree in morn and gathered 2 p'ks of pecans.

Tue. 17th. Cloudy all day and dropped rain a little in morn and sprinkled in eve till 4 and set in to raining steadily then and lasted all night - a big fall of water. Willie rode Daisie to town in morn and to hunt cattle in eve and got wet. Carmel and Marion drove Julia mule to school in morn. I threshed and gathered nearly 3 p'ks of pecans today.

Wed. 18th. It rained all last night and till 10 this morn and bright and cool from NW in eve and clear all night. Carmel and Marion didn't go to school in morn. I picked up 1/2 bu of pecans after 10 in morn.

Thu. 19th. Bright and cool from W all day but a thunder cloud came up from NW in night and we had a hard little shower. Willie and Dud picked peas in Sims' bottom today. Charles and Carl and I gathered 3 p'ks of pecans today. Carmel and Marion went to school today.

Fri. 20th. Clear and a cold NW wind all day and calm at night. Willie and Dud cut seed cane in patch E of here in morn and picked peas in Sims' bottom in eve. Nellie and little Nellie drove Julia (mule) to town in morn and returned late in eve. I gathered 3 p'ks of pecans today and winnowed some bread corn in eve.

Sat. 21st. Bright, nearly clear, and some frost (our first) in morn. Willie and Dud hauled in peas early in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town and returned late in eve. I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans and grabbled some potatoes in morn and cut the row of cane in garden in eve. Clarence L came at night and Willie and Marion went hunting with him at night.

Sun. 22nd. Bright and a little frost in morn but wind from E and warmer in eve. Willie and Minnie and all of children went to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's. Emma brought Elma in eve.

Mon. 23rd. Bright and cool. Willie and hands picked peas today and left them in field. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.

Tue. 24th. Bright and cool. Willie and hands picked peas today and hauled all in eve. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.

Wed. 25th. Bright and cool from NW. Willie and hands picked peas today and hauled them late in eve. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.

Thu. 26th. Clear and cool from N. Willie and hands picked peas today and hauled them late in eve. Carl and I gathered pecans today, 1 1/2 p'ks.

Fri. 27th. Clear and cool from NE. Willie rode Sandy in morn and put cattle in pasture to dip and he patched fence around Gate cut and we put hogs in there late in eve but couldn't get young pigs in and all of hogs came back to cow pen in night. Dud and hands picked peas today and hauled them late in eve. Carl and I gathered pecans today and finished filling 2 bbls to sell.

Sat. 28th. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped cattle in morn and Willie drove Daisie to buggy and Dud drove wagon to town in eve and carried 2 bbls of pecans and Willie sold them for $30.14 and they returned at dark. I gathered some pecans today.

Sun. 29th. Clear and cool and dry. Nellie and I walked to Wiley's in morn and Buddy sick and Dr. Magruder came out to see him in eve and Willie drove Daisie and carried Bernice to Mr. Seward's in eve and returned at dusk. We put our milk cows in field in morn early.

Mon. 30th. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud and Sam Woods dug potatoes today and Leah and Sophia picked peas. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.

Tue. 31st. Clear and cool and dry. Willie and Dud and Sam dug potatoes and Leah and Sophia picked peas. Carl and I gathered 1/2 bu of pecans today.
