NOVEMBER 1917

Thu. Nov. 1st. Clear and frost in morn and a very cool wind from NW. Willie and hands picked peas and hauled them late in eve. I gathered pecans today.

Fri. 2nd. Clear and frost in morn. Willie and hands picked peas and hauled them late in eve. I gathered pecans today.

Sat. 3rd. Clear and frost in morn and wind from NE. Willie drove Daisy to town in morn and dined with Bro Ellis and returned late in eve. I gathered pecans in morn.

Sun. 4th. Clear and a little frost in morn but wind from S and warmer in eve. Rena and little Nellie went to Mr. Seward's on yesterday and Wiley and boys dined here today. Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve (drove Buck).

Mon. 5th. Bright, nearly clear, and about cold enough for frost in morn but warmer in eve and very dry. Willie picked cotton in morn and hauled in 2 loads of peas in eve which hands picked today. I grabbled some potatoes early in morn and Carl and I gathered pecans today.

Tue. 6th. Clear and about cold enough for frost in morn but warmer in eve. Willie hauled in 2 loads of peas which hands picked today. I gathered pecans today.

Wed. 7th. Clear, but smoky, and nearly cold enough for frost early in morn but warmer in eve. Willie hauled in 2 big loads of peas which hands picked today and they finished all late in eve. I gathered pecans today.

Thu. 8th. Clear, but smoky, and nearly cold enough for frost in morn but warmer in eve and very dry. Dud and Jack cut and stripped cane in patch N of here today. Willie and 2 of Hannah's children scraped and finished cotton today. I gathered pecans today.

Fri. 9th. Clear, but smoky, but warmer in eve and very dry. Dud and Jack cut and stripped cane in patch N of here today. Willie patched up fence around field today and put cows in field early in morn and put hogs in late in eve. I gathered pecans in morn.

Sat. 10th. Clear, but smoky, and warmer in eve. Willie drove Buck to buggy and Dud drove wagon to town in morn and returned in eve with 3 molasses bbls. and Willie got 2 suits of woolen underwear for me. I gathered pecans in morn. We put our horses and mules in field late in eve.

Sun. 11th. Foggy till 9 in morn and bright till 2 1/2 in eve and sprinkled rain a little from NW at 2 1/2 to 3 and bright balance of eve. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion and Charles walked to SS in eve after the sprinkle.

Mon. 12th. Clear and cool very early in morn and a dry wind from N. Willie at Wiley's most of day helping to cook molasses. Babers hauled Wiley's cane to mill with our mules to Wiley's wagon. Dud cut cane till late in eve and finished. I gathered pecans in morn.

Tue. 13th. Clear, but smoky, and very cool and dry from N. Willie and Dud hauled 2 last loads of Wiley's cane and hauled ours balance of day. I gathered pecans today.

Wed. 14th. Cloudy and very cool from N all morn and clear in eve and a chilly wind from N. Willie and Dud hauled cane and wood to Wiley's mill in morn and ground on our cane in eve. I picked up pecans in morn and got our horses and cows out of field late in eve and found Daisy sick.

Thu. 15th. Cloudy and very chilly from N all morn and clear in eve. Willie and Dud ground cane and cooked our molasses in morn. Willie took Wiley's place in eve and helped to dig Wiley's potatoes and Wiley cooked molasses. I grabbled some potatoes and picked up some pecans in morn and cleaned leaves out of tin gutter and got cows and horses from field in eve.

Fri. 16th. Clear and a slight freeze in morn but calm and warmer in eve. Willie helped to dig Wiley's potatoes and Wiley and Dud and Jack ground and cooked our molasses and finished it at night. I cut up wood and dug some of Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and got cows and horses from field late in eve.

Sat. 17th. Clear, but smoky, and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud hauled our molasses, nearly 3 bbls, from Wiley's early in morn and Willie rode Daisy to hunt cattle. Nellie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn to have dental work done on Carmel's teeth. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sun. 18th. Cloudy and we had a slow rain at 2 to 3 1/4 in eve and none went to SS in eve and we had a good rain in night.

Mon. 19th. We had a good rain last night and foggy and very cool from NW today and cleared off late in eve. Willie and Dud and 2 boys dug potatoes today in patch E of here. I helped them awhile early in morn and picked up some pecans and I got cows and horses from field late in eve.

Tue. 20th. Clear and a very cool wind from NW. Willie and Dud and 2 boys dug potatoes in patch E of here and finished late in eve and hauled all in 2 loads by sunset. I finished digging Irish potatoes in old garden by 9 in morn and dug some in patch N of here by 11. I shucked some bread corn in eve and got cows and horses from field by sunset.

Wed. 21st. Bright and pleasant from SW. Willie rode Daisy and Dud drove our wagon and Monie McKenzie drove Wiley's wagon and team and carried 2 big loads of cotton (our last) to town in morn and returned late in eve. I gathered pecans in morn after getting water for Leah to wash and packing and cutting up stove wood.

Thu. 22nd. Bright but some little clouds and a very cool wind from W of N all day. Willie sowed all of ground E of here, where he had potatoes, in oats early in morn and rode Daisy to Surgett's early in morn to hunt cattle and returned at sunset. Dud harrowed under the oats today. I gathered pecans in morn.

Fri. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, but smoky and a cold and dry wind from N all day and a freeze at night. Dud plowed under oats in patch E of here today and Willie sowed the oats and cut and split some beech and china wood in hollow W of here. I shelled some bread corn after packing and cutting up wood in morn.

Sat. 24th. Clear, but smoky, and a white frost and freeze in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and carried 2 bus corn to mill and returned late in eve. I patched a pair of Jeans pants in morn after packing and cutting up wood.

Sun. 25th. Clear, but smoky, and a freeze in morn but wind from E and warmer in eve. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me and Carl and Bro Ellis preached there. I have a bad cold but better late in eve and at night.

Mon. 26th. Bright and frost in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Dud plowed under oats in patch E of here today. Willie cleaned off and sowed oats in morn and rode Sandy to hunt cattle in eve. I gathered pecans (one p'k) in morn and got cows and horses from field late in eve.

Tue. 27th. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie and Dud and I dug our Irish potatoes in patch N of here by 11 in morn and Willie and Dud sawed and split the pecan log S of flower yard by 12 and sawed and split wood in back of field in eve.

Wed. 28th. Cloudy and windy from SE till 9 1/2 in morn and began to rain slowly then and got hard and lasted balance of morn and all eve - a big rain in all - and much needed too. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in back of field till 10 1/2 in morn and did nothing in eve. I got wood for Leah to wash early in morn and gathered pecans till the rain.

Thu. 29th. Cloudy all morn and bright and pleasant in eve from W. Willie rode Buck to hunt cattle in morn and Sandy in eve. I cut up wood and picked up pecans and beat hulls off some walnuts in morn. Thanksgiving day and children didn't go to school.

Fri. 30th. Foggy and wet till 9 1/2 in morn and bright and pleasant from W balance of day. Willie and Dud hauled wood from back of field today. I gathered pecans in morn and got wood and water and helped Willie to get cows from field late in eve.
