NOVEMBER 1912

Fri. Nov. 1st. Dark cloudy and a cold wind from W of N all day and cleared off at dark. Willie and I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and I picked up pecans, blown down by the wind, most of day and got 1 1/2 pecks in all.

Sat. 2nd. Bright, nearly clear, and good deal of frost, and little ice, scorched vegetation some and a cold wind from N all day and clear and calm and cold all night. Willie rode Sandy to Ogden's store in morn and he and Marion and Buddy and Earl went hunting in eve. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and threshed 2 trees and gathered 1 1/4 pecks of pecans today.

Sun. 3rd. Bright and a white frost and a killing freeze in morn but pleasant in sun after 10 in morn. Nellie at Wiley's till 1 1/2 in eve and she and Willie and Carmel and Marion walked to SS in eve and Bro Hopper preached there and I gave him some pecans late in eve on his way back to town. I gave Earl some pecans at 11 in morn.

Mon. 4th. Bright and a frost in morn but a breeze from SE and a good deal warmer in eve. Willie and I got up mules from field early in morn and he hauled wood most of day from out N and NE of orchard. Lucy and I dug part of Irish potatoes in new ground E of here in morn and I picked up some pecans in eve.

Tue. 5th. Bright but cloudy some all day and a damp wind from SE all day and pleasant. Willie and I marked and castrated 35 pigs early in morn and finished digging Irish potatoes in patch E of here by 10 3/4 in morn and I threshed and gathered a peck of big pecans by 4 in eve.

Wed. 6th. Bright and dry and pleasant and thundered around late in eve and early in night and blew up from W of N at 8 in night and turned cool without rain. Willie put up a shed in hog pen beyond garden early in morn and shut up our boar (John). I threshed and gathered pecans most of day and got 1/2 bu of big ones. Willie and Chunk went hunting in eve.

Thu. 7th. Bright and cool and very dry from W of N and no rain in sight. Willie drove Sandy to buggy to town in morn and carried 5 pecks of big pecans and sold to Treppendahl for $7.80 and returned at 1 1/2 in eve. I threshed and gathered 1 1/2 pecks of small pecans today. Wiley cooked Lanehart's molasses on yesterday and today.

Fri. 8th. Bright, nearly clear, and about cold enough for frost early in morn but dry and pleasant after 10 in morn. Willie and Chunk and Earl went bird hunting in morn and Willie fired brush on N side of orchard in eve. I threshed and gathered nearly 1 peck of pecans today, mostly big ones.

Sat. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and quite cool early in morn but dry and pleasant from SE most of day. Willie and I got up Sandy and the mules from field early in morn and Willie bought a bbl of molasses from Wiley and brought home on Wiley's slide with the mules by 9 1/2 and Willie rode Sandy to town and got Tucker to write 2 land deeds. Nellie and Bernice and Nora and Viola went in Wiley's Surry to Woodland and returned late in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and picked up pecans in morn and in eve too.

Sun. 10th. Bright, nearly clear, and dry and cool but a breeze from SE. Nellie and Carmel and Charles and I walked to Wiley's in morn. Jack D and Viola came there on Fri morn and left this eve. Charles and I returned from Wiley's at 11 1/4. Willie and the children went to SS in eve. I was sick late in eve and took one of Bond's pills at night and another just before day.

Mon. 11th. Bright, nearly clear, and a damp and pleasant breeze from S. Willie burned brush in NE corner of orchard and NW of cowpen today. I threshed and gathered a few pecans today,

Tue. 12th. Cloudy and a damp breeze from S early in morn and a rain came up from NW at 10 1/2 in morn and bright till 1 in eve and we had a hard shower at 1 1/2 and several little ones in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 12 at night and we had a good hard rain and needed very much. Nellie and I drove Nancy to buggy to town in morn and were caught in the rain 1 mile from town but didn't get wet. We carried 2 land deeds to have recorded and were caught in the hard shower at Surgett's but didn't get wet. Chunk dined here today.

Wed. 13th. We had a good rain last night and bright and cool from N today. Willie rode Sandy to Stewart's place in morn at 10 and returned at 3 in eve. I picked up pecans most of morn and patched gate and fence around cowpen to keep out hogs in eve.

Thu. 14th. Bright, nearly clear, and some frost in morn but a pleasant day. Willie burned poles and logs on NW side of orchard today. I set out strawberry plants on SW part of garden most of day.

Fri. 15th. A litle frost in morn but nearly clear and a pleasant day. Willie cleared and cut wood in field today. I set out strawberry plants in garden most of day and dug up some strawberries in NW corner of garden in eve.

Sat. 16th. Frost in morn but nearly clear and a dry and pleasant day. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve. He had the old deed of trust cancelled at Clerk's office and brought home the 2 new deeds (land) to himself and Wiley. I set out onions most of day in garden and manured the ground with stable manure.

Sun. 17th. A slight freeze and frost in morn but nearly clear and dry and pleasant. Dixie and her 3 youngest children and Mrs. Chambers at Wiley's most of day and Nellie there too. Gordon dined here. I walked to Wiley's and back in eve. Willie and Carmel and Marion and Gordon went to SS in eve.

Mon. 18th. Bright, nearly clear, and frost in morn and dry and pleasant. Willie cleared ground in field today. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and packed stable manure in garden and set out onions most of day and finished them. Willie and I helped Wiley to load wagon with 10 hogs early in morn which he carried to town and sold.

Tue. 19th. Bright and a frost in morn but dry and calm and pleasant. Willie and I killed and dressed a little spotted sow early in morn and I packed stable manure in garden and set out some strawberries and finished last of them and watered some of them late in eve.

Wed. 20th. Warmer and cloudy some and a little rain cloud came up from SE at 11 1/3 in morn and sprinkled a little here and bright in eve. Willie cut a white oak out toward Wiley's early in morn and Wiley helped Willie to saw up the tree for wire posts by 12 and Willie and Wiley and Lanehart went bird hunting in eve. I watered most of strawberries lately set out in garden early in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn by 3 1/2 in eve.

Thu. 21st. Bright and warm but some clouds all day and appearance of rain. Willie split oak posts on Spring branch till 3 1/2 in eve and went bird hunting with Chunk and Earl. I drew water and got wood for Lucy to wash in morn and winnowed 1/2 bbl of bread corn.

Fri. 22nd. Warm and cloudy all day and very little sun and appearance of rain. Willie split wire posts in morn and walled in E side of new barn for 2 stables in eve. I rode Sandy to Ogden's in morn and on to Barber's mill and left 1 1/2 bu of bread corn there to be ground on tomorrow and returned at 10 3/4 and cut up good deal of wood in eve.

Sat. 23rd. It sprinkled rain just before day (in morn) and cleared off and quite cool from NW at 9 in morn. Willie rode Sandy to Barber's mill early in morn and returned ay 9 with nearly 7 pecks of meal. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and Willie and Carmel and Marion and I walked to schoolhouse and Bro Hopper preached there in morn and again in eve and stayed all night here. Sun. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from N and very dry. All of us except Minnie went to schoolhouse in morn and Bro Hopper preached there in morn and eve too and had dinner there on ground. I came home to dinner and Minnie stayed with Rena in eve and let Wiley go to preaching in eve. He stayed with Rena in morn, she is unwell.

Mon. 25th. Bright and a little ice in morn and chilly from East early in morn but calm and pleasant after 10 in morn and dry. Willie put up a partition in stable on E side of new barn in morn and made 2 stalls and he and Nellie and Carmel and Marion walked to Mrs. Wigner's burying in eve. I packed manure from under old barn and back stable and put between rows of strawberries set out lately all morn and picked up some pecans in eve.

Tue. 26th. Bright and dry and cool. Willie cut wood out toward turf field in morn and went hunting with Chunk and Earl in eve. I packed manure from under old barn to garden and put in water furrows of strawberries and onions in morn and gathered 1/2 peck of pecans in eve.

Wed. 27th. Bright early in morn but clouded up from W of N at 9 with a cold wind and rained and sleeted a little at 10 to 12 and quit and cold and cloudy till sunset and cleared off. Willie cut wood till 10 1/2 in morn. I got wood for Lucy to wash here early in morn and drew some water too and gathered 3/4 of a peck of pecans today.

Thu. 28th. Bright, nearly clear, and a freeze and very white frost in morn but calm and a pleasant day after 10 in morn - no school today - this is Thanksgiving day. Willie and Lanehart and Wiley went bird hunting in eve. I threshed and gathered 1 peck of pecans today.

Fri. 29th. Bright and a freeze and some frost in morn but a dry and pleasant day and warmer in eve from SE. Willie cut wood most of day toward turf field. I threshed a pecan tree in SW corner of flower yard in morn early and gathered 1 1/2 pecks of pecans there and picked up some in eve.

Sat. 30th. Bright and dry but some clouds all day and pleasant from SE. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and carried 48 lbs. of pecans (mixed ones) and sold to Treppendahl for $6.50 and he got a pair of shoes for me and returned at 12 1/2 and Willie and Marion and little Wiley and Lewis' boys went bird hunting in eve. I threshed 3 trees and gathered 1 peck of pecans (mostly small ones) in morn.
