NOVEMBER 1894

Thu. Nov. 1st. Bright but some clouds and wind from S and rained at 4 in night. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cane bottom all morn and Willie picked cotton in orchard on W side in eve and Pa picked in Persimmon cut. I lay down all eve and vomited with headache and all night, too.

Fri. 2nd. It began to rain in morn at 4 from SW and lasted (slowly) till 10 and bright but cloudy some from W in eve. My headache got better after drinking coffee in morn. We did nothing but get wood in morn. Pa, Willie and I picked peas all eve on upper side of Cherry cut and got 180 lbs..

Sat. 3rd. Clear and quite cool from N. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cane hollow all morn. Nellie and I drove Hattie to new buggy to store in eve and returned just after sunset. Willie rode Joe fox hunting at night.

Sun. 4th. Clear, frost in morn, but a beautiful and pleasant day from N. Nellie and Cousin Mary drove Lewis' mare to new buggy to Aunt Mary's early in morn and returned at dusk. Bud here all day.

Mon. 5th. Clear and a dry NE wind and cold all day. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cane bottom all morn and we picked cotton in eve in Persimmon cut. Mrs. Jim Mills and Miss Joella Glass here at 12 to 3 1/2 in eve.

Tue. 6th. Clear, a frost in morn - enough to scorch vegetation -and wind from N all day. Pa, Willie and I picked peas all morn in Cane hollow and Willie and I hauled in 5 cartloads of corn from there in eve and took cart to Gussie's late in eve and brought his little boar back here and put in pen with our fat sow. Pa picked cotton in Gate cut all eve. Seymour came here from Lewis' late in eve and stayed all night. Old man Ed Tabor here all day (from Lewis').

Wed. 7th. Clear, a frost in morn and ground slightly frozen but only scorched vegetation. Wind from S today. Pa picked cotton in Gate cut all day. Willie and I killed and dressed a shoat in morn by 9 1/2 and cut and ricked planting cane on NW side of orchard till 12 and we hauled in 5 cartloads of corn from Cane hollow in eve.

Thu. 8th. Bright, some clouds from W and wind from NW and warmer than yesterday. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cane bottom all morn and Pa picked cotton in Gate cut all eve and Willie and I cut and ricked seed cane on NW side of orchard in eve.

Fri. 9th. Clear, some frost in morn and dry from NW. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cane hollow all morn and Pa picked cotton in Gate cut in eve and Willie and I cut and ricked cane on NW side of orchard all eve.

Sat. 10th. Bright - some high clouds and wind from N - and dry and quite cool. Pa, Willie and I picked peas all morn on SW hillside of Cane hollow and on W or NW corner of Cherry cut. Willie drove Hattie to new buggy to Cohen's in eve. I picked some cotton in orchard in eve. W. DeLoach here at night awhile.

Sun. 11th. Bright - frost in morn - and a cold N wind and chilly all day and quite dry. All of us home today. W. DeLoach and Bud here most of day.

Mon. 12th. Clear, a freeze in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Willie and Dixie drove Hattie to Seymour's buggy and Wiley D. and Rena drove Gussie's mare to our buggy and all went to town at 9 1/4 to Show and returned at dusk. Pa picked cotton most of day in Gate cut. I took floor out of old cotton house and cleaned it out and took down colt stable to break up rat den most of day.

Tue. 13th. Cloudy and a damp S wind and rained a little shower at 3 1/2 in eve and a hard one at dusk from W. Pa, Willie and I picked peas all morn in Cherry cut on upper side and Pa picked cotton all eve in Gate cut and Willie and I cut and ricked cane on NW side of orchard and finished that side by 4 1/4 in eve.

Wed. 14th. Clear and quite cool from N. Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cherry cut till 11 in morn and I lay down on Pa's gallery with headache from 11 to 12 after vomiting once (I had a dull one all yesterday and last night) and it got better after I ate little dinner and went off late in eve. Pa picked cotton in Gate cut in eve and Willie and I hauled in 4 cartloads of corn from Cane hollow cut in eve. I put 2 loads in barn and 2 in barrels in old cotton house. Mrs. Katie Ogden here most of day.

Thu. 15th. Clear and pleasant from S. Pa picked cotton all day in Gate cut and Willie and I cut and ricked cane in old cow pen corner all morn and we hauled in 5 cartloads of corn - 3 from fence row cut and 2 from waterhole cut just S of there in eve and put in barn above door.

Fri. 16th.. Cloudy and warmer from SW and sprinkled rain several times in eve and in night and thundered and lightened in NW early in night. Pa picked cotton all day in Gate cut.. Willie and I cut and ricked cane in cow pen corner all morn and we hauled in 4 cartloads of corn - 3 from waterhole corner and 1 from on W side of Cherry cut - and put 3 loads in barn above door and put 1 load in barrel in old cotton house.

Sat. 17th. It rained little last night and clear and cool from N today. Pa picked cotton in Gate cut most of morn and Willie and I cut and ricked cane on W side of cow pen corner most of morn and finished all but little in NW corner of there. Pa and I drove Hattie to new buggy to Cohen's in eve and Pa got some things for himself.

Sun. 18th. Bright and chilly in morn and cloudy and warmer in eve from S and rained some in night in slow showers. I walked to Sims' in morn and Pa at Clara's all day. Nellie and Willie walked to Gussie's in eve and Joe Miller came back with them at sunset and left after supper. Dixie and Rena drove Hattie to Mr. D. Chambers in eve.

Mon. 19th. Bright and quite cool from N. Pa, Willie and I picked peas on W side of Cherry cut all morn and Pa picked cotton in Gate cut in eve and Willie and I finished cutting and ricking cane in old cow pen corner (and last of our cane) by 3 in eve and we worked our fence on E and NE sides of orchard putting some poles at bottom balance of eve.

Tue. 20th. Clear, frost in morn, but a pleasant day. Willie and I carried Gussie's chester boar home on cart early in morn and Pa, Willie and I picked peas in Cherry cut till 11 1/4 and hauled a full cartload of corn from there (our last) by 12 1/2. Pa picked cotton in Gate cut in eve and Willie and I worked on orchard fence all eve making it hog proof and finished just before sunset and put our hogs in field after sunset.

Wed. 21st. Foggy in morn and bright and warm in eve. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day - in new SW corner in morn and Pa in Gate cut and Willie and I in old whip pea ground in eve.

Thu. 22nd. Dark, cloudy and warm from SE all morn and sprinkled rain little in morn but bright all eve. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day - in new SW corner all morn and Pa in Gate cut in eve and Willie and I in pea ground of Cherry cut on NE corner.

Fri. 23rd. Foggy and warm in morn and cloudy all day and thundered in W and NW all eve and a cloud came up just before sunset and rained a hard shower from W and cleared up at dark. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day - in new SW corner in morn and Willie and I in pea ground in eve and Pa in Gate cut and he finished that cut. Walter Featherstun, Jr. came late in eve and stayed all night.

Sat. 24th. Cloudy and cool from N all morn and clear in eve and pleasant from N. Walter Featherstun, Jr. stayed here last night and left early in morn. Willie rode Joe fox hunting in morn. Pa and I picked peas all morn in hollow on SE corner of H ridge and we got 100 lbs. which I put in bbls. in old cotton house. I took head out of our molasses barrel and Nellie and I got out the sugar and put in a corn sack to drip it at 12 1/2 to 1 1/2 and I rode Hattie to Cohen's and back by 4 1/2. Nellie at Gussie's at night and Wiley D. here to supper and stayed all night.

Sun. 25th. Clear, a little frost in morn, but a pleasant and beautiful day. Nellie returned from Gussie's in morn. Helen gave birth to a daughter last night. Pa rode Hattie to Alice's in morn and I packed and cut up some wood in morn. Pa and I walked to Clara's in eve. Wiley DeLoach here last night and today and left late in eve after sunset.

Mon. 26th. Clear, a little frost in morn, but wind from S and warmer in eve. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day in new SW corner next to wire fence and we got 245. Seymour came here at daylight (from Pine Woods) and ate breakfast here and went to Lewis' to cook molasses. They began there today.

Tue. 27th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all morn in new SW corner and Pa and Willie picked there all eve and finished picking last of their cotton. Bud and Gordon dined here. They picked cotton for Lewis yesterday and today. I rode Hattie to Cohen's in eve to see about ginning.

Wed. 28th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Pa and Willie picked cotton in Pine corner hollow (in mine) after 9 1/2 in morn and balance of day. Cohen sent 3 wagons early in morn and carried Pa and Willie's 2 last bales and 1 of mine to gin by 10 3/4 and they got through with all by 1. I sold to Cohen at 4 7/8 cts. I returned at 2 1/4 and picked 12 of cotton by front gate in eve.

Thu. 29th. Bright and dry and pleasant. Pa, Willie and I picked cotton all day in Pine corner in mine and got 260. Willie and I quit before sunset awhile and put Salome and Dick and Rex and 1 of Mr. Sims' little mules in field. We left them in 5 acre cut.

Fri. 30th. Dark, cloudy and a damp SE breeze in morn and bright and pleasant in eve. Nellie and I drove Hattie to town in morn and I got 1 doz. fruit trees at Stable for $5. We returned at 1 1/2 and I set out the trees in eve in orchard. Pa and Willie picked cotton all day in Persimmon cut. Bud helped them some in eve. Dixie and Rena picked over all of cotton in orchard in morn.
