MAY 1921

Sun. May 1st. Bright and pleasant. B C and Gordon dined here today.

Mon. 2nd. Cloudy and a very cool wind from N all day and clear late in eve and at night. Willie and Wiley and Dud ran cultivators in corn and finished late in eve. I hoed onions and strawberries in garden in morn.

Tue. 3rd. Bright and a cold wind from N all day but not quite cold enough to freeze at night. Wiley barred off cotton and hands scraped and Dud and Joe ran cultivators in corn in Coon field. I hoed in garden some and packed a bbl of ashes and put in NW corner of garden for tomatoes.

Wed. 4th. Clear and nearly cold enough for frost in morn. Willie molded corn and Wiley barred off cotton and Dud and Joe ran cultivators in corn today. I packed manure from cow pen and put in NW corner of garden in morn.

Thu. 5th. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from N. Willie molded corn and Wiley barred off cotton and Dud and Joe ran cultivators in corn on creek and hands scraped cotton. I packed manure and put on east side of garden in morn.

Fri. 6th. Bright and cool from N. Willie molded corn with Buck and Wiley and Dud barred off cotton and hands scraped cotton. I packed manure from cow pen and put on east side of garden in morn.

Sat. 7th. Bright and cool in morn and warmer in eve. Willie rode Buck to hunt cattle in morn and he and Charles drove Buck to town in eve. Wiley and Dud barred off cotton in morn and drove wagon to Ogden's mill in eve. I packed manure from cow pen and put on east side of garden in morn.

Sun. 8th. Bright but cloudy some and warmer today from S. Bro Tom and his 2 little girls here today.

Mon. 9th. Cloudy and sprinkled rain some in morn and warm and windy from S all day and we had a big washing rain in night. Willie molded corn and Wiley and Dud split middles in cotton today. I set out some tomatoes and watered in NW corner of garden in morn.

Tue. 10th. Bright and warm and wind from W. Willie and Wiley and Dud planted peas for hay in eve - too wet to work in morn. I set out some tomatoes and pimento in garden in morn.

Wed. 11th. Bright and very warm and wind from W all day and a thunder cloud came up from NW late in eve and we had a long slow rain till in night. Willie and Wiley and Dud planted peas and finished them in eve. I hoed and replanted 2 rows of okra in patch N of here in morn.

Thu. 12th. Bright and warm and no rain but a thunder cloud in sight in N after dark. Willie and Dud and Wiley marked all of pigs early in morn and barred off corn and rebedded slip ground in eve. I hoed around 7 fig trees out E of here in morn.

Fri. 13th. Bright and warm and no rain. Willie staked some tomatoes in field in morn. Wiley and Dud barred off corn in patches N and E of here in morn and they and Joe plowed corn in back of field in eve and Willie sowed peas ahead. I hoed around 7 fig trees out E of here and some in garden in morn.

Sat. 14th. Bright and warm and rained around some late in eve but none here. Wiley and Dud and Joe plowed corn in morn and Willie sowed peas. I hoed around 4 pear and 1 fig tree out E of here and some in garden in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve.

Sun. 15th. Bright and a little cool from N. Willie and Minnie and Charles and Carl went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 16th. Bright and a little cool from NE. Willie sowed peas and Wiley and Dud and Joe plowed corn today. I hoed in garden on E side in morn.

Tue. 17th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool and dry. Wiley and Dud and Joe plowed corn on creek and Willie sowed peas. I hoed in garden in morn. Lucile came in a car at 11 in morn and brought Mattie and Jack and Carmel - Carmel has been at Mrs. James' for awhile.

Wed. 18th. Bright and a little warmer today and some clouds. Willie sowed peas and Wiley and Dud and Joe plowed corn on creek today. Mike (mule) was sick just after dinner and Wiley plowed Buck in eve. I hoed strawberries in garden in morn.

Thu. 19th. Bright most of day but some clouds in eve and sprinkled rain a little in eve. Wiley and Dud and Joe plowed corn on creek today and Willie sowed peas. I dug the 4 rows of Irish potatoes on east side of garden in morn. I was sick most of day and began to take my tonic.

Fri. 20th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Wiley and Dud barred off cotton on creek. Willie finished barring off corn in patch E of here today and some in field. I hoed in garden in morn on west side.

Sat. 21st. Bright and warm from east and no rain in sight. Willie barred off corn in morn and he and Carmel drove Buck to town in eve. Dud and Wiley plowed in morn. I hoed around trees and bedded potatoes in old garden in morn. Willie James and wife and Lucile came in a car at 12 and took Mattie James home in eve.

Sun. 22nd. Bright and warm and some dark clouds most of day and dropped rain a little in eve. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in morn and heard Commencement sermon at courthouse by Corley Christian Preacher. I was sick early in morn and took Syrup Pepsin.

Mon. 23rd. Bright and very warm in morn and cloudy from E and a rain cloud came up from S of E at 4 and we had a good rain and much needed too and bright late in eve. Willie barred off corn and got wet in eve. Wiley and Dud split cotton middles and other hands sowed corn in patches N and E of here. I hoed nest egg squashes in field early in morn.

Tue. 24th. Bright and very warm most of day and no rain. Willie barred off corn and Wiley and Dud plowed cotton and hands hoed Willie's corn. I set up posts for a late bean arbor on east side of garden in morn.

Wed. 25th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie barred off corn and Wiley and Dud split middles in cotton and hands hoed Willie's corn. I planted the arbor of beans on east side of garden and put up all of old sticks on the arbor in morn.

Thu. 26th. Bright and warm and no rain. Wiley split cotton middles and Dud barred off late corn in Willie's and hands hoed in Willie's corn. Nellie and Carmel and Charles drove Buck to college commencement at night. I hoed some in garden and Charles and Carl and I cut some bean poles and finished sticking late beans in morn.

Fri. 27th. Bright and very warm but no rain. Hands hoed Willie's late corn and finished late in eve. Wiley and Dud plowed and Willie packed water to hands today. I hoed in garden in morn.

Sat. 28th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Wiley and Dud drove wagon to town in morn to mill and Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn and all returned in eve. I hoed in garden in morn.

Sun. 29th. Bright and very warm but some dark clouds and lightning in E at night. All home today.

Mon. 20th. Bright and very warm all morn and rained around in thunder showers most of eve and near too but only dropped a little here. Wiley and Dud ran cultivators in late corn today. Willie hoed his watermelons and potatoe patch today and they pumped out well just after dinner. I picked some dry peas in garden in morn.

Tue. 31st. Clear and very warm in morn and rained around in thunder showers most of eve but only sprinkled here a little. Wiley and Dud ran cultivators in late corn. I hoed the 2 rows of okra in patch N of here and some in garden in morn.
