MAY 1920

Sat. May 1st. Bright and quite warm from SW. Dud and Wiley barred off cotton in morn and Willie barred off his cotton in patch N of here with Sandy in morn. Minnie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. I hoed peas in new garden in morn and was sick and took a pill at 12 1/2 and lay down most of eve.

Sun. 2nd. Bright but cloudy some and warmer from SW. Willie and Minnie drove Sandy and Buck to Wiley's early in morn and returned at dusk.

Mon. 3rd. Bright but cloudy some and very warm. Dud and Wiley barred off cotton today and Willie barred off in his patches N and E of here with Buck today. I hoed in new garden in morn on east side.

Tue. 4th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and Willie barred off cotton today. I hoed in new garden in morn. Rena and Jack came late in eve and stayed all night.

Wed. 5th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley finished barring off cotton today. Willie ran cultivator in cane middles in field and some in corn too. I hoed in new garden on W side in morn.

Thu. 6th. Bright but some clouds and warm and no rain. Willie and Wiley and Dud ran cultivators in corn today and other hands scraping cotton. I hoed up ground in old tomatoe patch (about 1/2 of it) in field in morn.

Fri. 7th. Warm and cloudy some all day and a thunder cloud in sight in SW late in eve but no rain here. Dud and Wiley and Willie ran cultivators in corn. I hoed the last half of tomatoe patch in field in morn.

Sat. 8th. Bright and pleasant from NE and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn in morn. I cut up some stove wood and hoed some in new garden in morn. Willie and Carmel drove Sandy and Buck to town in eve.

Sun. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and wind from NE and dry. All home all day. Gordon here in eve.

Mon. 10th. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and sprinkled rain a little from S. Dud and Wiley and Willie split cotton middles today. I cut up some stove wood and patched up chicken coops in morn.

Tue. 11th. Bright and windy from S in morn and a thunder cloud passed around SE from S in eve but no rain here. Minnie and Carmel drove Buck to George Fugler's burying in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. Dud and Wiley and Willie split cotton middles today. I packed manure from cow pen and put on W side of new garden in morn.

Wed. 12th. Bright and warm and windy from S and no rain. Willie and Dud and Wiley split cotton middles. I cut up some stove wood and hoed some in old garden in morn.

Thu. 13th. Bright in morn and rained around in thunder showers most of eve and we had a good little shower here at 1 to 2 1/2 in eve and much needed too. Willie and Dud and Wiley split cotton middles in Coon field today. I rehilled about 1/2 of Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and sawed limbs out of a pear tree there in eve.

Fri. 14th. Cloudy and began to rain at 1 in eve and lasted till 5 - a slow rain - and rained some slowly in night and much needed too. Willie and Dud and Wiley plowed in Coon field in morn. I rehilled Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them.

Sat. 15th. Cloudy and dropped rain some in morn and bright in eve. Dud and Wiley and Joe plowed in Coon field in morn and Willie hoed his watermelons and potatoes in field in morn. I set out some tomatoes and planted pepper in new garden in morn. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in eve and Dud and Wiley drove wagon to mill in eve.

Sun. 16th. We had a big rain from SW at 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 in morn and quit till 12 and began again and lasted all eve - a big washing rain with some thunder. Lanehart and wife here at 10 to 11 1/2 in morn.

Mon. 17th. Bright and warm most of day but rained around in thunder showers some in eve but only sprinkled a little here. Willie and Dud and Wiley set out some potatoe sets from garden in Cherry cut in morn. I set out some tomatoes in field in morn and replanted nest egg squashes, which didn't come up in field, in eve.

Tue. 18th. Bright and warm and no rain. Willie and Dud and Wiley barred off corn in Coon field today. I hoed in new garden on E side in morn and I grabbled first mess of Irish potatoes in old garden in eve.

Wed. 19th. Bright and warm and no rain but rained around some in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley barred off corn in Coon field and finished there in eve and some hands hoed corn there today. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Thu. 20th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and Joe plowed corn and Willie sowed peas in home field today. I hoed in new garden on W side in morn and finished there.

Fri. 21st. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Wiley and Joe layed by corn in home field today. I hoed little tomatoe patch on ditch in field in morn. West dined here today. Sarah Percy came last night and her brother and sister came in a car in eve and Sarah and Carmel went home with them late in eve.

Sat. 22nd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie dipped cattle early in morn. Dud and Wiley and Joe plowed corn in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Sandy to town in eve. I hoed tomatoes in field in morn.

Sun. 23rd. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. All of us home all day but Carmel. She is at Percy's. Gordon here today. Mon. 24th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and Wiley and Joe layed by corn in home field today. I packed manure in new garden and put between onion rows and pulled all of them up and left them in garden in morn and hoed some in old garden in eve.

Tue. 25th. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and Dud and Wiley and Joe layed by corn today. I packed in onions and put in gallery room and finished manuring and hoeing over patch in morn. Bro Dawson and wife spent day here.

Wed. 26th. Bright and warm and dry. Dud and Wiley and Joe layed by old corn in home field. Willie and Cap D hunted cattle in morn. John and Sarah Percy and Cap D dined here. Carmel went to town with the Percy's to stay all night in the evening. I cut poles and put up a frame for a bean arbor for late beans in new garden in morn.

Thu. 27th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. Dud and Wiley and Joe finished laying by old corn in morn and ran cultivators in cotton in eve. Willie ran cultivator in patch of cotton E of here today and John Owens hilled there with hoe. I cut and packed bean poles in morn and didn't quite finish arbor.

Fri. 28th. Bright and warm and dry. Wiley and Dud ran cultivators in cotton today. Willie ran cultivator with Buck in cotton in patches E and N of here today and finished them. I cut 13 bean poles and finished sticking late beans in new garden and hoed some there in morn.

Sat. 29th. Bright and warm and dry and thundered some far off in eve. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in cotton in morn. I hoed in new garden on W side in morn. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in eve and brought Son back with them late in eve.

Sun. 30th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. All went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there except Nellie and me.

Mon. 31st. Bright and warm in morn and a thunder cloud came up near here from SW at 2 in eve but no rain here. Willie molded cotton in patch E of here with Buck today. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in cotton in Coon field today. I hoed in new garden in morn and grabbled some Irish potatoes in old garden in eve and picked some dry peas in new garden in eve.
