MAY 1919

Thu. May 1st. Bright and pleasant from NW. Willie and Dud and Wiley W hoed corn in patch N of here in eve - too wet to work in morn. I hoed around 3 fig trees out E of here and replanted watermelons on ditch in field where they were washed away in morn and cut seed tops out of onions in new garden in morn.

Fri. 2nd. Bright and warm from S. Dud and Wiley barred off corn in field today and Wiley finished his but Dud didn't quite finish his. Willie hoed corn in patch E of here today. I rehilled Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sat. 3rd. Bright and warm. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn on creek in morn. I hoed around hills of nearly all vegetables in new garden in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Woodlands to a Seining in morn and returned late in eve.

Sun. 4th. It rained slowly here at 7 to 9 in morn but not enough to run and a thunder cloud SE of here all the time and cloudy some all day. No SS in eve. Mary is sick and Nellie and Minnie and Carmel went there in eve.

Mon. 5th. Bright and warm from S and no rain. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn today on creek. I rehilled Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Tue. 6th. Bright in morn and thundered and rained around some in eve but only sprinkled a little here. Willie and Dud and Wiley planted corn on creek in morn and finished last of corn. I rehilled Irish potatoes in old garden and finished them by 9 1/2 in morn and scraped some of yam sets in patch N of here.

Wed. 7th. Bright in morn and a thunder shower came up from SW at 2 in eve and we had a little shower then and a thunder cloud came up at 2 in night and we had a big shower. Willie hoed corn in patch E of here today. Dud and Wiley barred off cotton today. I scraped yam sets in patch N of here in morn and finished them.

Thu. 8th. It began to rain at 7 in morn and lasted till 10 and quit and began to rain at 4 1/2 in eve and lasted till 6 - a big rain. We did nothing today hardly. I set out some tomatoes in new garden in morn and Willie set out some yam sets in patch N of here in eve. Mary washed under wood shed in morn.

Fri. 9th. Bright but cloudy some and a little cool from NW in morn but warm in eve. I hoed around hills of my watermelons in field in morn. Willie hoed around his watermelon in field in morn. Dud and Wiley and hands scraped cotton in eve - too wet in morn. Wiley came late in eve and stayed all night to take away his cattle tomorrow.

Sat. 10th. Cloudy some all day and sprinkled rain at sunrise but a pleasant day. Dud and Wiley W and hands scraped cotton in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to a SS picnic at Morris' in morn and returned at dark. Willie and Wiley DeLoach drove Wiley's cattle from here today. I hoed in my tomatoe patch in field in morn.

Sun. 11th. Cloudy some all day and cooler in morn and warmer in eve and a thunder cloud came up from W early in night and rained a slow rain here awhile. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me.

Mon. 12th. Cloudy some all day and ground too wet and we had a big rain from 5 to 6 in eve from NW. Willie plowed cane in field with Sandy in morn and ran cultivator in patch N of here till rain in eve. Dud and Wiley barred off cotton till rain in eve and got wet. I hoed in tomatoes and watermelons in field in morn and hoed bedded potatoes in new garden in eve.

Tue. 13th. Bright but cloudy some all day and pleasant from NW and no rain. Dud and Wiley and hands scraped cotton today. Willie fixed watergaps and scraped yam sets in patch N of here today. I hoed around 25 fruit trees E of here in morn.

Wed. 14th. Bright and cool early in morn and warm in eve and no rain today. Willie ran cultivator in corn and cane and potatoe sets in patch N of here with Sandy. Dud and Wiley and hands scraped cotton. Dud and Wiley barred off cotton in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley got a cow out of a hole in morn. I hoed in new

garden in morn on W side.

Thu. 15th. Bright and pleasant and no rain. Willie ran cultivators in corn in patch N of here and plowed yam sets in patch there in morn and layed by corn in patch E of here in eve with Sandy. Dud and Wiley finished barring off cotton at 4 in eve and ran cultivator in corn late in eve. I hoed in new garden on East side in morn.

Fri. 16th. Bright and warm and no rain. Willie layed by corn in patch E of here today. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn today. I hoed in new garden in morn and finished it.

Sat. 17th. Bright and warm and no rain. Willie plowed corn in patch E of here in morn and drove Buck to town in eve. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn in morn and Wiley drove mules to wagon to town in eve. I hoed in watermelons and tomatoes in field in morn.

Sun. 18th. Bright and warm till 4 1/2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW then and we had a good little rain till 6 1/2 and quit. Buddy and Gordon and Dixie and Lee and J K dined here today. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me and Charles and Carl and Bro Dawson preached there. Marion took Dixie home late in eve.

Mon. 19th. Bright, nearly clear till 2 in eve, and rained around from NW till dusk and a thunder cloud came up from N at dark and we had a big washing rain. Willie layed by corn in patch E of here and N too. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn today. I hoed in my tomatoe patch in field in morn.

Tue. 20th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from W of N and no rain. Willie rode Sandy and hunted cattle most of day. Dud and Wiley and hands scraped cotton today. I hoed around 3 fig trees W of here early in morn and hoed around apple trees E of here too. Wiley and Dago and another man came with 2 wagons at 11 in morn and carried last of his corn away in eve.

Wed. 21st. Bright and cool. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn and hands scraped cotton. Willie plowed corn in patch N of here. I hoed in tomatoes and watermelons in field in morn.

Thu. 22nd. Bright and cool. Dud and Wiley ran cultivators in corn in morn and split middles in cotton in eve. Willie barred off corn on creek today. I hoed in new garden in morn on East side.

Fri. 23rd. Bright and wind from S all day and cloudy all night and began to rain before day. Willie barred off corn on creek today. Dud and Wiley split middles in cotton today. I hoed Willie's watermelon patch on H ridge in morn.

Sat. 24th. Cloudy and began to rain just before day and lasted most of morn and a big thunder cloud came up from SW at 12 and we had a hard wind and big thunder and rain till 1 and sprinkled most of eve. We did nothing but feed and milk and get wood.

Sun. 25th. Cloudy and a big thunder cloud came up from S at 12 and we had a big rain and rained on slowly all eve and all night too - a big fall of water in all.

Mon. 26th. Bright but cloudy some all day and no rain today. Willie hunted cattle most of day on Sandy. Dud and Wiley fixed watergaps in morn and they and hands scraped cotton in eve. I hoed around some trees out E of here in morn. Bro Dawson here awhile in eve.

Tue. 27th. Cloudy and rained some today. Willie and Wiley barred off corn on creek till 11 in morn and got wet. I brought in part of white onions from new garden in morn and put them in potatoe room.

Wed. 28th. Cloudy but bright part of day and rained around most of day in thundershowers and sprinkled a little here. Willie and Wiley and hands hoed corn in mud on creek today. Dud and hands finished scraping his cotton today. I brought in part of white onions from new garden in morn and set out some tomatoes in field.

Thu. 29th. Cloudy some all day and we had a hard shower at 1 in eve and another big one late in eve. Willie and Wiley and his hands and Dud hoed corn on creek in morn and didn't work in eve on account of too wet. I brought in last of white onions from new garden in morn and put in old gallery room. Willie and Minnie and Nellie and Carmel and Marion went in Lanehart's surry (drove the mules) to town late in eve to graduation of Carmel and Marion and returned after midnight.

Fri. 30th. Bright most of day and rained around some today but only sprinkled a little in eve late here. Dud and Wiley and hands hoed corn on creek today. Dud and Wiley barred off corn there in eve. Frank Rodgers and Bernice came at 12 and here all night. Carmel and Marion went to town in morn and came back at 12 with diplomas.

Sat. 31st. Bright and warm and no rain in sight today. Dud and Wiley barred off corn on creek all day. Frank Rodgers and Marion and Charles and Carl went fishing in morn. I hoed in my tomatoe patch in field in morn.
