MAY 1918

Wed. May 1st. Bright and cool from N and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Bunges planted late corn all day in patch N of here and in patch E of here and some in field. I hoed in tomatoe patch in field in morn.

Thu. 2nd. Bright and very cool early in morn but warm in eve. Willie and Dud and Bunges planted corn today and finished late in eve. I hoed in tomatoe patch in field and finished there and hoed some in new garden in morn.

Fri. 3rd. Bright and very cool early in morn but warm in eve. Willie ran cultivator on corn middles with Daisie and Dud and Bunges barred off cotton today. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Sat. 4th. Bright and cool early in morn but cloudy some and warmer in eve from SE. Willie ran cultivator on corn middles in morn with Daisie and rode her to hunt cattle in eve. Dud and Bunges barred off cotton in morn. I hoed on W side of new garden in morn. Carmel and Marion returned from Mrs. James' in eve. They went there on last Thu morn.

Sun. 5th. Bright but cloudy some and a damp wind from SE. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Bro Tom and his 2 little girls dined here. Minnie and Carmel and Marion and Carl went to SS in eve.

Mon. 6th. Bright and warm in morn but cloudy some all morn from SW and rained around in thunder showers most of eve and we had a hard little shower here at 5 1/4 and needed too. Willie ran cultivator in corn till rain and got nearly wet. Dud ran cultivator in his corn today and Bunges barred off cotton. I hoed between rows of peas in new garden and planted some bush beans and packed 5 turns of stable manure in new garden in morn.

Tue. 7th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie ran cultivator in corn and Bunges barred off cotton and finished ours by late in eve. Dud barred off his cotton today. I hoed around fig and peach trees out E of here in morn and watched chickens out of corn planted E of here today.

Wed. 8th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud barred off his cotton and finished it in eve. Bunges ran cultivator in cane N of here in morn and he and Willie scraped cotton in eve. I hoed around pear and peach trees out E of here in morn and watched chickens out of corn all day out E of here.

Thu. 9th. Warm and cloudy but bright and no rain in sight. Willie and Bunges and Hannah scraped cotton today and Dud scraped in his. I hoed strawberries and onions in old garden in morn and watched chickens out of corn all day.

Fri. 10th. Bright and quite warm and no rain in sight. Willie and hands scraped cotton today. Willie rode Daisie in eve and drove up cattle for dipping in eve. I hoed around peach trees and thinned out plum thicket out E of here in morn and watched chickens out of corn all day.

Sat. 11th. Cloudy but bright and windy from E of S but no rain in sight. Willie and Marion dipped cattle early in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and returned at dusk with meal. Bunges and "Bee Martin" scraped cotton in morn. I hoed around 2 fig trees near hen shed and packed 4 turns of manure in new garden in morn.

Sun. 12th. Bright but cloudy some all morn and warm and very cloudy and windy from SW in eve and thunder clouds came up from NW at 5 3/4 in eve and we had a good rain till 7 and needed too. Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to a Red Cross meeting in town in eve and returned just as hard rain began. Henry Ogden came just as rain began and left early in night.

Mon. 13th. Clear and cool from N and no rain in sight. Willie and Bunges scraped cotton today and Dud in his. I set out the Beauty tomatoes in field in morn.

Tue. 14th. Clear and cool and no rain in sight. Willie and Bunges and 2 hands scraped cotton today and Dud in his. I hoed Marion's watermelons and some in Willie's patch in morn.

Wed. 15th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool early in morn but warm in eve from SE. Willie scraped cotton today and Bunges too in morn and he split middles in cotton in eve and Dud too in his cotton. I hoed in Willie's watermelon patch in morn.

Thu. 16th. Bright most of day and warm and a thunder cloud passed around SE of here from S in eve but no rain here. Willie and 2 hands scraped cotton in morn and finished ours. Dud and Bunges split middles in cotton today. I hoed in Willie's watermelon patch in morn.

Fri. 17th. Bright and warm from S and no rain in sight today. Willie plowed sweet potatoe patch in field with Ella in morn and split cotton middles with Sandy in eve. Bunges split middles all day. I hoed in watermelon patch in morn.

Sat. 18th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight but looked like rain late in eve. Willie and Bunges finished splitting cotton middles in morn and Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in eve and brought some ice and we had ice cream at night. I hoed in watermelon patch in morn.

Sun. 19th. Bright and warm and thundered in West in eve but no rain in sight. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Willie and Minnie and children went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there. Nellie went to Wiley's in eve.

Mon. 20th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight but clouds and wind from S. Willie and Bunges molded corn with big mule and Sandy and Dud with red mule. I hoed in watermelon patch and finished there and hoed some in tomatoe patch.

Tue. 21st. Bright and warm from S and no rain in sight. Willie and Bunges and Dud plowed corn today. I finished hoeing tomatoes in field and hoed some on E side of new garden in morn. Nellie and Minnie walked to Dick Chambers in eve.

Wed. 22nd. Bright and warm and getting dry. Willie and Bunges plowed corn and Dud scraped his cotton today. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Thu. 23rd. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight but thunder far off in eve. Willie and Bunges plowed corn and Dud scraped his cotton today. I hoed in corn at upper part of big bottom in field in morn.

Fri. 24th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges plowed corn and Willie sowed peas. I hoed corn at upper part of big bottom in morn and shucked one bbl of ears in eve. Preacher Dawson here awhile late in eve.

Sat. 25th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges plowed corn in morn and Willie sowed peas. I hoed corn in upper part of big bottom in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and returned at dark with meal.

Sun. 26th. Bright and warm and no rain here except a very little sprinkle late in eve. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to college in morn and heard Dr. Cooper preach commencement sermon and Nellie and Carl drove Buck to Ogden's in eve. Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve.

Mon. 27th. Bright and warm all morn and cloudy in eve and rained around some in thunder showers but only sprinkled a very little here. Dud and Bunges plowed corn and Willie sowed peas today. Marion and I hoed in corn in upper part of big bottom in morn and finished new part there.

Tue. 28th. Bright and warm from S in morn and a cloud came up from SE at 1 in eve and we had a pretty good little shower till 1 3/4 and much needed too. Dud and Bunges finished plowing old corn at 9 in morn and barred off late corn in big bottom balance of day. Willie and Sophie hoed corn. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 29th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges barred off late corn and Willie stayed with 9 hands hoeing late corn today. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn. Carmel and Carl drove Buck to town in morn and brought Sarah Percy back with them at 11 in morn. Dixie and her 2 little boys here today. Nora and Miss Bingham ate supper here.

Thu. 30th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Bunges finished barring off late corn and plowed sugar cane in patch N of here today. The hands finished hoeing late corn late in eve. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Fri. 31st. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy some all eve and sprinkled rain a little. Dud ran cultivator in his cotton and Bunges ran harrow on some slip ground in patch E of here and rebedded it today. Willie put out the ashes (over seven bbls) on slip ground in morn and got up his calves in eve and vaccinated them for black leg. I dug Irish potatoes in old garden and finished them by 8 1/2 in morn and hoed Marion's watermelons by 10 1/2 in morn.
