MARCH 1919

Sat. Mar. 1st. Bright and about cold enough for frost in morn and a cold wind from NE most of day. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and drove Buck to buggy home at 2 1/2 in eve and Lucile drove Buck back to town to college to an entertainment and Marion rode Sandy and Lucile and Carmel drove Sandy back at 12 in night. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sun. 2nd. Bright and not quite cold enough for frost in morn and pleasant after 10 in morn. Gordon dined here today and Lilah ate supper here. No SS in eve.

Mon. 3rd. Clear and very cool early in morn and warm in eve. Dud and Wiley Woods plowed all day (our first plowing). Dud plowed up and harrowed new garden by 10 in morn. I hoed some in new garden all morn. Willie sowed some oats in Gate cut in morn and Wiley Woods plowed them up and harrowed over.

Tue. 4th. Cloudy and warm and rained a hard shower from SW at 2 1/2 in eve. Dud and Wiley Woods broke ground all day and Willie cleaned off ground. I planted 3 double rows of peas in new garden in morn and manured them.

Wed. 5th. A cloud blew up at daylight without thunder and we had a hard rain for a few minutes and turned very cool and sun shined out at 10 in morn. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods hunted and got up Wiley's hogs by 4 in eve and Willie put some of his in pen at dusk to sell on tomorrow. I put some manure around 2 apple trees out E of here and dug around front yard gate to turn water out of yard in morn.

Thu. 6th. Cloudy early in morn and nearly cold enough for frost and cleared off at 10 in morn and warmer in eve. Dud drove the wagon and carried 12 of Willie's pigs and Lanehart sent 2 wagons and caried Wiley's hogs to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve and Willie rode Sandy to town and Dud and Wiley Woods plowed in eve. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn. West dined here today.

Fri. 7th. Bright and cool in morn and cloudy and a damp breeze in eve and rained late in night. Dud and Wiley Woods plowed today. Willie cleaned off ground. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sat. 8th. It rained most of morn from NW after 9 1/2 in morn and bright and cool in eve and sun shined. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods got Wiley's sow in pen and caught the 2 shoats with the dogs and killed one of them and Willie and Wiley Woods cleaned it in eve and Dud carried the sow and one shoat to town in eve and sold to Lewis.

Sun. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool in morn and warmer in eve. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Willie and Carl and me.

Mon. 10th. Bright and cool and no rain. Dud and Wiley plowed today. Willie worked in Wiley's field in morn. Wiley came with 4 wagons in morn and carried away his cane in eve and I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Tue. 11th. Bright and cool from NE. Dud and Wiley W plowed today. Willie cleaned up ground. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 12th. Bright, nearly clear, and a little frost in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley Woods broke ground in morn and Willie and Joe Woods stripped cane in morn and they planted it in field in eve. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them.

Thu. 13th. Cloudy some all day and warmer and a damp breeze from S. Dud and Wiley Woods broke ground today and Willie cleaned up ground. I hoed in new garden - onions and radishes and lettuce and potatoe bed -in morn. Mrs. James came at 2 in eve and here all night.

Fri. 14th. Warm and bright but cloudy and some appearance of rain. Dud and Wiley W broke ground and Willie cleaned off ground. I planted cucumbers and okra in old garden in morn. Mrs. James and Lucile left at 2 in eve.

Sat. 15th. Warm and cloudy and a damp SE wind all day and night too and sprinkled rain some in day and night too. Dud and Wiley W broke ground in morn and Willie cleaned up ground in Wiley's field. I planted tomatoes and squashes and butter and pole beans in new garden in morn.

Sun. 16th. Cloudy and windy from S all day and rained in little sprinkles most of morn and bright in eve and began to sprinkle again after sunset and we had a big rain at midnight with thunder and wind from SW. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Carl and me. Lucile and Annabel came at sunset.

Mon. 17th. We had a big rain last night at midnight and clear and cool from NW today. Willie and Dud and Wiley W worked on pasture fence near creek in morn and Dud and Wiley broke ground in eve. Nellie went in buggy with Annabel to Wiley's early in morn. Wiley came with 4 wagons at 12 and carried corn home in eve. I put up some wire on N side of garden to keep mules off a pear tree and hoed around 3 September fig trees out E of here in morn.

Tue. 18th. Clear and nearly cold enough for frost in morn - but a pleasant day. Willie and Dud and Wiley W and Joe planted corn all day in patch E and patch NE of here by dropping corn in old water furrow and breaking ground on it. I hoed mustard and part of Irish potatoes in old garden and part of onions in new garden in morn.

Wed. 19th. Clear and nearly cold enough for frost in morn but a pleasant day. Willie and Dud and Wiley W and Joe finished planting corn in patch E of here by 10 in morn and Dud broke ground in field on creek balance of day and Willie and Wiley W and Joe planted corn in field balance of day. I planted some bush beans and hoed peas in new garden in morn.

Thu. 20th. Clear and very cool early in morn and warmer in eve -a beautiful and pleasant day. Dud broke ground on creek and Willie and Wiley W and Joe planted corn in field. I planted some sweet and hot pepper in new garden and dug around hills of cucumbers and okra, planted on last Friday, to enable them to come up.

Fri. 21st. Clear and very cool early in morn and warmer in eve -a beautiful and pleasant day. Dud planted corn and Wiley W broke ground. Willie put up a gate to patch N of here in morn and patched up wire fence there in eve. I hoed bedded potatoes and put in some more there in new garden in morn.

Sat. 22nd. Bright, nearly clear, and dry and pleasant. Willie planted some watermelon early in morn and Dud planted corn on creek and Wiley W broke ground in morn. I hoed around hills of beans in new garden to enable them to come up and set out some tomatoes there, which Wiley brought me at 11 in morn. Wiley came with 2 wagons for corn at 11 in morn. Willie rode Daisie to town in eve.

Sun. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, and a pleasant day. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and brought Nellie home - she has been at Wiley's since last Monday. Minnie and all of children except Carl went to SS in eve.

Mon. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and a pleasant day. Dud finished planting his first corn in morn and Wiley W broke ground. Dud plowed Sandy and Daisie and Wiley plowed the grey mules and Joe plowed Maud Est and Ella and all broke ground in eve. I hoed and cut all of blooms off of onions in new garden in morn.

Tue. 25th. Cloudy and a damp S wind all day and began to rain at dark and sprinkled on through the night. Dud and Wiley W and Joe broke ground today and Willie cleaned up ground. I scraped Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 26th. It rained some last night and rained some in little sprinkles till 10 in morn and quit but cloudy all day and cool from N and sprinkled some in eve and in night. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground today and Willie cleaned up ground. I replanted cucumbers in eve.

Thu. 27th. Cloudy and chilly from N till 10 in morn and clear and a very cool wind from N balance of day. Dud and Wiley W and Joe broke ground all day. Willie cleaned up ground. I hoed and finished Irish potatoes in old garden in morn (first scraping). Gus Dawson came at sunset and here all night.

Fri. 28th. Clear and a little frost in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley W and Joe broke ground today and Willie worked in ditches in field. Gus Dawson got some seed corn in morn and left. I hoed and stuck some peas in new garden in morn.

Sat. 29th. Bright, nearly clear, and nearly cold enough for a frost in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground in morn and Willie drove Buck to buggy and Wiley drove wagon to town in eve and returned at dark. I stuck peas in new garden in morn and Marion helped me.

Sun. 30th. Cloudy some but bright and dry and pleasant. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Carl and me.

Mon. 31st. Bright and warm in morn and a cool wind from NE in eve. Willie cleaned up ground on creek and Wiley W and Joe broke ground in home field. I stuck peas in new garden in morn and replanted okra in eve.
