MARCH 1916

Wed. Mar. 1st. Foggy and misted rain some in morn and some early in eve and bright late in eve and warmer. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I planted 2 long rows of peas in new garden in morn and part of eve.

Thu. 2nd. Cloudy most of day and warmer today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash early in morn and planted 4 rows of peas in new garden in morn and part of eve and finished them. Willie and Dud broke ground today.

Fri. 3rd. Bright and a cold wind from N all day. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I planted some tomato seed in old garden early in morn and packed some corn from gallery room to barn and got out some seed corn in morn and in eve too. Minnie and Marion and Carl drove Julia mule to Mrs. James' in morn.

Sat. 4th. Bright and a white frost and freeze in morn but wind from S and warmer in eve and cloudy some. Willie repaired big pasture fence in morn and Dud broke ground in patch N of here in morn. Willie drove Sandy to town in eve. I packed corn from gallery room to barn in morn and shucked a bbl of ears for seed.

Sun. 5th. Bright but cloudy some and pleasant from S. Ogden and wife and some of their children came in their auto in eve. Minnie and Marion and Carl returned from Mrs. James' late in eve.

Mon. 6th. Cloudy and a damp S wind all day. Willie and Dud and Dickie planted sugar cane today in patch N of here and finished it late in eve. I picked grass out of strawberries in garden in morn and hunted hens' nests in eve and got wood and water and fed.

Tue. 7th. Warm and cloudy in morn and cloudy some all eve and thundered around most of eve but no rain here and wind changed to NW at 3 1/2 in eve. Willie and Dud and Dickie planted Irish potatoes in patch N of here early in morn and planted corn (our first) balance of day. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn.

Wed. 8th. Bright most of day and a cold wind from N but calm and cloudy all night. Willie and Dud and Dickie planted corn today. I shucked good deal of corn today for seed and shelled some.

Thu. 9th. Cloudy early in morn and very cool, but bright most of day. Willie and Dud and Dickie planted corn today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash in morn and shucked and shelled seed corn most of day.

Fri. 10th. Bright but some clouds all morn and cloudy in eve and a thundercloud came up from E of N late in eve and we had a big rain with some little hail and thunder at 5 1/2 to 6 and some in night too. Willie and Dud and Dickie planted corn till late in eve and rain ran them home. I hoed onions in NW corner of garden in morn.

Sat. 11th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cool wind from NE all day. Dud drove the wagon to Ogden's and Willie rode Sandy there and got 2 s'ks of cotton seed early in morn and Willie drove up 2 cows with young calves by 12. I dug up ground around the sweet pear tree in front in morn.

Sun. 12th. Clear and very cool in morn but a beautiful and pleasant day. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Carl had fever today. Willie and Carmel and Marion walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 13th. Clear and pleasant from SW. Willie and Dud planted sweet potatoes in morn and cleaned up ground in field in eve. I dug up ground around the late pear tree in morn and hunted hens' nests and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Tue. 14th. Bright but some clouds all day and a wind from SW all day and a thundercloud came up from NW early in the night and we had a good shower and turned cold. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I packed stable manure and put around the 2 old pear trees in front yard and young peach trees in patch E of here by 10 1/4 in morn and shucked a bbl of ears for bread by 12.

Wed. 15th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cold wind from W of N all day. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I got wood for Leah to wash early in morn and hoed all of onions on E side of old garden in morn.

Thu. 16th. Clear and a frost in morn but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud broke ground today and ------- strawberries and radishes and turnips in old garden in morn and shelled some bread corn in morn and in eve too.

Fri. 17th. Clear and a pleasant day from SW. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I hoed and picked grass out of strawberries in morn and shelled some bread corn and got wood and water in eve.

Sat. 18th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Dud broke ground in morn and Willie rode Frilby to hunt cattle. Willie and Charles and Jack drove Sandy to town in eve and Wiley went to town in eve on wagon and carried 7 p'ks of corn to mill for us. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn.

Sun. 19th. Bright and warm from SW. Willie and Minnie and children went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there. Emma and Elma both here at night.

Mon. 20th. Foggy till 9 1/2 in morn and bright and warmer balance of day from SW. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn and hunted eggs and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Tue. 21st. Bright and warm and windy from SW. Willie and Dud broke ground in morn and Dud in eve too and Willie cleaned off ground in eve. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn and set 2 hens and got wood and water and fed in eve. Elma had speaking at schoolhouse at night and all went but me and returned at midnight.

Wed. 22nd. Bright and warm from SW. Dud went to a burying in morn and didn't work today. Willie cleaned off ground today. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn.

Thu. 23rd. Bright and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash early in morn and picked grass out of strawberries till 10 1/2 in morn and finished them and I hunted eggs and set 2 hens in eve.

Fri. 24th. Warm and cloudy and windy from SW all day and sprinkled rain a little at 4 1/2 in eve and some at night. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I hoed onions and lettuce and radishes and turnips and bought strawberries in garden in morn and hunted eggs in eve. Carmel and Marion went to town with Rena to "Fields" Day and returned late in eve.

Sat. 25th. Cloudy and a thundercloud came up from SW at 10 in morn and we had 2 big washing rains before 12 with some little hail and it rained on till late in eve and a very big fall of water in all. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned in eve in rain wet. Dud broke ground till the rain in morn. I hoed in old garden till 9 3/4 in morn and finished last of it.

Sun. 26th. Bright and pleasant from W. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Nellie and Charles and Carl to Wiley's.

Mon. 27th. Bright after 2 in eve and cloudy all morn and very cool from NW and clear at night. Willie rode Sandy to hunt cattle early in morn and he helped Marion and me to cut pea sticks at 10 to 12 and jabbed holes in peas in eve. We stuck some of peas at 10 1/2 to 12. Dud cleaned up ground in patch E of here today.

Tue. 28th. Clear and a little frost in morn but didn't hurt vegetation and a pleasant day from SW. Willie and Dud broke ground today and they plowed in patch E of here in eve. I and Marion cut sticks and stuck peas in new garden in morn and finished sticking all of peas. I set 2 hens in eve.

Wed. 29th. Bright and pleasant. Willie and Dud broke ground in patch E of here today. I hoed peas in new garden in morn and some in eve and didn't quite finish them. Nellie and Carmel drove Hal to town in morn and returned late in eve.

Thu. 30th. Clear and pleasant. Willie and Dud broke ground in patch E of here in morn and in oat patch N of here in eve. I finished hoeing peas in new garden early in morn and stuck up canes on outside of them balance of day and didn't quite finish them.

Fri. 31st. Bright, nearly clear, and pleasant. Willie and Dud and Marion planted corn all day. I stuck canes on outside of peas in new garden most of morn and finished them and I hoed some onions in old garden in eve.
