JUNE 1917

Fri. June 1st. Bright and warm and very dry from SW. Dud and Sidney plowed middles out of old corn and Willie sowed peas in morn and he and Marion rode to Surgett's and brought 2 cows and put them on creek. Marion and I dug Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Sat. 2nd. Bright and warm and very dry from SW. Willie sowed peas and Dud and Sidney plowed middles out of old corn in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Julia and carried Sarah Percy to take train in Woodville for home in morn. I dug Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn.

Sun. 3rd. Bright and warm till 2 in eve and cloudy and calm balance of eve. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. All walked to SS in eve. Nellie at Wiley's all day.

Mon. 4th. Bright and warm and very dry from SW. Dud and Sidney finished laying by old corn in morn and barred off late corn in patch E of here in eve and plowed up last of Irish potatoes in patch N of here. Marion and I dug Irish potatoes in morn and we drove Daisie to town in eve.

Tue. 5th. Bright and very warm and dry from SW. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in cotton in morn and Dud rode Sandy to Turnbull's to register in eve. Willie hoed corn in patch E of here today. Marion and I picked some dry peas in new garden in morn. Wiley carried a wagon load of Irish potatoes and carried a few for us too.

Wed. 6th. Bright and very warm and dry from SW. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in cotton and Willie and Marion hoed corn in patch E of here. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Thu. 7th. Bright and warm and very dry from SW. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in cotton in morn and cultivators in late corn in eve. Willie and Marion hoed watermelons and hilled cotton today. I hoed beans in new garden in morn.

Fri. 8th. Bright and warm and very dry from SW. Willie and Marion hilling cotton and Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in late corn. I pulled pea vines from sticks and hoed the rows in new garden in morn. Beulah Smith and children here today.

Sat. 9th. Bright and warm and very dry from SW but sprinkled rain a little at 12 in day. Willie and Marion dipped cattle early in morn. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in late corn in morn. I hoed some in tomatoe patch in field early in morn. Willie James came at 11 1/2 in morn and took Mattie home in eve. Willie drove Daisie to town in eve.

Sun. 10th. Bright and warm and very dry from NW. Gordon and Rena and her children dined here. Wiley went to his Pa's in morn. Willie and Carmel and Marion and Gordon walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 11th. Bright and warm and very dry from W. Willie and Marion and Dud and Sidney hilled cotton today. I hoed up part of old strawberries in old garden in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Tue. 12th. Bright and very warm and dry from W. Willie and Marion and Dud and Sidney hilled cotton today. I hoed up strawberries in old garden in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve. May McCraine here today and 2 of her children.

Wed. 13th. Bright and very warm and dry all morn but clouded up at 2 in eve and sprinkled rain some in eve. Willie and Marion and Dud and Sidney hilled cotton today. I got wood and water for Leah to wash early in morn and hoed up and finished last of old strawberries in old garden in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn in eve.

Thu. 14th. Began to rain slowly at 6 in morn and lasted till 7 1/2 - enough to wet ground about 1 inch - with some thunder - and bright from N balance of day. Willie and Marion dipped cattle at Thompson's in morn. Dud and Sidney hilled cotton today. Willie and Marion drove up Plug and Beauty with young calves late in eve from creek. I cut bushes and briars around old garden in morn.

Fri. 15th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from N and no rain in sight. Sidney harrowed corn in patch N of here and cane too and Dud plowed corn there and Willie sowed peas there and they finished in the eve and plowed some of corn in Sims' bottom.

Sat. 16th. Clear and cool and dry and no rain in sight. Sidney and Dud plowed corn in Sims' bottom and Willie sowed peas in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve and carried 2 bus corn to mill. I shelled some dry peas in morn and some in eve too.

Sun. 17th. Bright, nearly clear, and cool and very dry and no rain in sight. Lanehart and wife here in morn awhile. Bro Tom and his 2 little girls here most of day. Minnie and Carmel and Marion drove Daisie to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there.

Mon. 18th. Bright, nearly clear, and very dry and no rain in sight. Dud and Sidney plowed late corn and Willie sowed peas and he and Marion killed boll weevils on cotton. I hunted 2 young sows in morn in pasture but didn't find them.

Tue. 19th. Bright and very dry and no rain in sight. Dud and Sidney plowed late corn. Willie and Marion killed weevils on cotton in morn and hoed sugar cane in eve. I found the 2 young sows with 9 pigs in morn and shelled some dry peas.

Wed. 20th. Bright and very dry. Dud and Sidney plowed late corn and Willie sowed peas. I fed the 2 young sows (with pigs) and shelled some dry peas in morn and finished them.

Thu. 21st. Bright and very dry. Dud and Sidney planted late corn and Willie sowed peas in morn and he and Marion hoed sugar cane in eve. I fed the 2 young sows and sowed some mustard seed in morn.

Fri. 22nd. Bright and warm and very dry. Dud and Sidney plowed late corn and Willie sowed peas and he and Marion hoed some in sugar cane in patch N of here. I fed the 2 sows and picked some dry beans in new garden in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to town late in eve to Baptist tent meeting.

Sat. 23rd. Bright and warm and very dry and lightning in NW at night. Willie rode Daisie to Surgett's in morn to see about cattle and drove her to town in eve. Marion and Dud and Sidney dipped our cattle in morn and didn't work today. I fed the 2 sows early in morn and sowed some mustard seed in old garden.

Sun. 24th. Bright and warm and very dry till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from East at dusk and rained a hard sprinkle here. Nellie and Carmel drove Hal to Methodist church in morn. Willie and Marion drove Daisie to Baptist tent meeting in eve and returned before sunset. Mrs. Lanehart sick late in eve and sent for Nellie and she stayed there at night.

Mon. 25th. Bright and warm and very dry till 4 in eve and clouded up and began to rain with some thunder and wind from E and lasted till 5 1/2 - enough to wet ground some. Willie and Marion rode to Surgett's and put cattle there in Fosselmann's pasture in morn. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in cotton till the rain in eve. I fed the sows and cut up some stove wood and packed 6 poles from W of here to put up in potatoe room to hang onions on in morn.

Tue. 26th. Bright and warm till 4 in eve and clouded up then from E and rained slowly till after dark - enough to wet ground some. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in cotton till the rain in eve. Marion and I packed and hung up onions in potatoe room in morn.

Wed. 27th. Bright and warm till 4 in eve and clouded up from E and rained a little slowly here at 4 1/2 to 6. Dud and Sidney rebedded slip ground in patch E of here in morn and ran harrows in cotton in eve. Willie hunted weevils today. Marion and I packed and hung up onions in morn.

Thu. 28th. Bright and warm most of day and thundered and rained around some in eve but only sprinkled a little here. Dud and Sidney remolded cotton today. Willie hunted weevils. Marion and I hung up onions in potatoe house in morn and finished there.

Fri. 29th. Bright and very warm and thundered and rained around some in eve but none here. Dud and Sidney remolded cotton today and Willie hunted weevils. Marion found his sow with 7 pigs in morn. I packed 4 turns of stable manure in old garden and put it on 4 rows for Irish potatoes in morn.

Sat. 30th. Bright and very warm most of day and a thunder cloud just S of here at 2 to 3 in eve but only sprinkled a little here. Dud and Sidney finished remolding cotton at 10 1/2 in morn and quit and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve. I planted some mustard and radishes and lettuce and hoed strawberries in old garden in morn.
