JUNE 1916

Thu. Jun. 1st. Bright and warm and dry. Willie and Dud layed by corn and Marion sowed peas and Henry ran cultivator in cotton with Sandy. I hoed part of old watermelon patch and finished it in morn and hoed a little in old garden in morn.

Fri. 2nd. Bright and warm but a good breeze from SW. Willie and Dud layed by corn and Marion sowed peas and Henry ran cultivator with Sandy. I hoed in old garden in morn.

Sat. 3rd. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy in eve from NW and looked like rain. Dud and Henry plowed corn in patch N of here in morn and Willie sowed peas there. Marion rode Sandy to Ogden's in morn. I hoed the row of little peach trees E of here in morn. Thomas Johns dined here. Willie and Carmel drove Sandy to town in eve.

Sun. 4th. Cloudy in morn and bright and warm in eve. All but Nellie and Charles and Carl and me went to SS in eve.

Mon. 5th. Cloudy some and windy from SW all day and a thunder cloud came up at 2 1/2 in night from SW and we had a little shower. Dud plowed sugar cane and ran cultivator in corn in patch E of here today. Willie and Henry and Leah and Sophia and a girl hilled cotton on H ridge today. I hoed peach trees in patch E of here in morn and picked some dry peas in new garden in eve.

Tue. 6th. Bright but cloudy some and windy from SW and we had a little shower at 3 in morn with some thunder. Dud ran cultivator with Sandy in corn. Willie and hands hilled cotton today. I hoed peach trees E of here in morn and finished them.

Wed. 7th. A thunder cloud passed around N from NW early in morn but only sprinkled a little here and cloudy some all day. Dud ran cultivator with Sandy in corn today. Willie and hands hilled cotton today. I hoed in new garden in morn and picked some dry peas there in eve.

Thu. 8th. Bright and cool from N and no rain in sight today. Willie and hands hilled cotton in morn and Willie and Dud and Henry in eve and finished. Dud and Henry molded corn in morn. I hoed in new garden till 8 in morn and finished there and I hoed around some pear and fig trees E of here till 10. Bernice and Nora dined here today.

Fri. 9th. Bright and cool in morn and warm in eve. Willie and Dud layed by corn in patch E of here today. Marion sowed peas in morn and rode Sandy on creek in eve and drove our dry cattle into pasture. I hoed watermelons in old tomatoe patch in morn and picked some dry peas in new garden in eve.

Sat. 10th. Bright and warm in morn and a rain cloud in sight in SW in eve. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped our cattle in morn and Willie drove Sandy to town in eve. I finished hoeing old tomatoe patch and hoed over watermelons in hollow in morn.

Sun. 11th. Bright and warm and no rain but a thunder cloud passed S from SW at 5 in eve. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me.

Mon. 12th. Bright and warm till 5 in eve and a thunder cloud came up then from SW and we had a good hard shower till 5 1/2 - and much needed too. Dud sick and didn't work. Willie plowed corn till the rain and got wet. I picked dry peas in new garden and hoed about 1/2 of pea ground in morn and I shelled some dry peas in eve.

Tue. 13th. Bright and warm most of day and no rain here but thunder showers passed around S of here from SW in eve. Willie plowed corn. Dud still sick. I finished hoeing pea ground in new garden by 8 in morn and gathered onions balance of morn and shelled some dry peas in eve.

Wed. 14th. Bright till 2 in eve and we had a little shower then from NW and bright some in eve. Willie plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. Dud still sick. I finished gathering onions and hoed onions in NW corner of garden in morn and I patched roof on old potatoe house in eve.

Thu. 15th. Cloudy and a thunder cloud passed around S from W at 9 to 10 in morn and we had a good slow rain here and bright at 11 to 2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 3 and we had a good hard rain till 4 1/2 and bright late in eve. Willie plowed corn till 9 in morn and came in wet and he and Dud plowed till 2 3/4 and rain ran them home. I hoed in old garden till 9 in morn and planted some pole beans in new garden at 11 in morn.

Fri. 16th. Bright and no rain here but rained around far off some in eve. Willie finished laying by corn by 9 in morn and remolded cotton balance of day with Ella. Dud rebroke ground for slips in Sims' corner with Sandy and Julia today. I dug the Irish potatoes in old garden and planted the ground in cucumbers in morn and I shelled some dry peas in eve.

Sat. 17th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie plowed cotton with Ella in morn and Dud rebedded slip ground with Sandy and Julia in morn. Willie and Carmel drove Sandy to town in eve. I packed some ashes and put on watermelon patch and hoed over all of patch in morn.

Sun. 18th. Bright and warm and no rain but thundered far off in eve. All but Charles and Carl and me went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there.

Mon. 19th. Bright and warm most of day and thundered around in eve but no rain here. Willie and Dud remolded cotton today. I hoed more than half of old tomatoe patch in morn.

Tue. 20th. Bright and warm and no rain but thundered around some in eve. Willie and Dud remolded cotton in morn and finished and Dud ran cultivator in cotton in eve. I hoed and finished tomatoe patch in morn. Bernice and Mamie Johns dined here and we had ice cream in eve and Mrs. Lanehart and children and Rena and her children and Louis Johns here in eve.

Wed. 21st. Bright but rained around S and SE of here not far off at 11 to 12 in morn but only dropped a little here. Dud ran cultivator in cotton. Willie ran cultivator in sugar cane with Sandy. I cut up good deal of stove wood and got wood for Leah to wash and brought a sack of pine straw from field in morn.

Thu. 22nd. Bright and warm and getting very dry and no rain here but thundered and rained around far off in eve. Willie and Marion and I dug the 8 rows of Irish potatoes in patch N of here by 10 in morn with Ella. Dud ran cultivator in cotton in morn and finished and hoed cane in eve.

Fri. 23rd. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud hoed cane in morn and Dud in eve too and Willie rode Sandy in eve and put dry cattle in pasture from creek. I hoed in old garden and some in new one too in morn.

Sat. 24th. Cloudy early in morn and bright after 10 in morn and we had a sprinkle of rain from NW at 4 1/2 in eve. Willie and Marion and Dud dipped cattle early in morn and Dud hoed cane in patch N of here till 12 and Willie drove Sandy to town and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. Willie and Dago carried 2 loads of corn to town in morn and returned at 3 1/2 in eve and Wiley dined here. Rena and Bernice went to a picnic in morn.

Sun. 25th. Bright and warm but rained a little shower just E of here at 3 1/2 in eve but none here. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve and Nellie and Charles and Carl to Wiley's.

Mon. 26th. Bright and warm most of day but thundered and rained around far off in eve and we had a little shower in night. Willie and Dud hoed cane in morn and Dud cut briars in corn in eve. I picked some dry bush and pole beans in new garden early in morn and sowed some cucumber seed too.

Tue. 27th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain here but thundered and rained around some in eve. Willie and Dud hauled out some cow manure in patch N of here for late Irish potatoes in morn and Dud ran cultivator on slip ground and Willie rebedded it in eve.

Wed. 28th. Bright and warm and very dry till 3 in eve and rained and thundered around most of eve but only sprinkled a little here. Willie rebedded slip ground and finished late in eve. Dud ran cultivator in cotton. I picked some dry beans early in morn and found a hen setting on 16 eggs near Dud's house and set the eggs under a speckled hen in a coop.

Thu. 29th. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and clouded up from E and we had a good hard one (and much needed too) till 4 1/2. Dud ran cultivator in cotton in morn and finished and cut burrs in corn in eve. Willie cut burrs in corn in morn. I walked to watermelon patches early in morn and hunted hens' nests till 10 and shelled some dry beans in eve.

Fri. 30th. Bright early in morn and clouded up at 10 1/2 in morn and we had a good hard rain at 11 - which wet ground pretty well -and bright in eve but rained around most of eve. Willie and Dud cut burrs in corn in morn and they and Marion set out slips in eve. I picked some dry beans in morn and shelled some in eve.
