JUNE 1915

Tue. Jun. 1st. Bright, but some dark clouds in morn, and rained a slow shower here at 2 to 4 in eve and bright balance of eve. Dud hoed corn today. Willie finished rebedding slip ground in morn and barred off corn in Sims' bottom at 2 to 4 in eve and got wet and quit. I cut bushes and briars around pear trees N of cow pen in morn and shelled some bread corn in eve.

Wed. 2nd. Bright, nearly clear, and warm and no rain in sight today. Willie barred off corn in Sims' bottom today and finished last of corn. Dud and Sophia hoed corn today. I set up 2 stakes in cow pen early in morn and hoed around some young peach trees E of here. I went with Marion and Charles and little Wiley and Jack to creek in eve.

Thu. 3rd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie barred off pindars in morn and layed by corn in eve. Dud and Sophia and Jack hoed corn and finished and hoed part of pindars today. I dug the 4 rows of Irish potatoes in garden and hoed the sugar corn there in morn and shelled some bread corn and picked some dry peas in garden in eve.

Fri. 4th. Bright and quite warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud layed by corn today and Marion sowed peas ahead of them. I hoed tomatoes in field in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn in eve and picked some dry peas in garden too.

Sat. 5th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud plowed corn in morn and Willie drove Sandy to town in eve. I hoed 1/2 of bean patch on hilltop of H ridge in morn and went to creek with boys in eve.

Sun. 6th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Chunk and Earl and Ernest and Martin and little Wiley dined here. Minnie and children (except Carl) went to SS in eve and drove Sandy. Willie sick and he and Nellie and I stayed home.

Mon. 7th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas. I hoed last half of bean patch on hilltop of H ridge in morn.

Tue. 8th. Bright and very warm all morn and cloudy some and a good breeze in eve and a thunder cloud in sight in SW in eve late. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. I put one turn of ashes on watermelon patch on yesterday and another early this morn and hoed half of patch by 10 in morn and shelled some bread corn in eve and drew water for tomorrow's washing.

Wed. 9th. Cloudy some early in morn and dropped rain a little from SW and bright from N after 10 in morn and warm. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. I got wood and water for Lillie to wash early in morn and hoed watermelons till 10 in morn and finished them. I shelled some dry garden peas in eve.

Thu. 10th. Bright and warm and no rain near but a thunder cloud in sight in SE late in eve. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. I hoed canteloupes and cucumbers in field in morn and packed in onions from garden in eve.

Fri. 11th. Bright and warm all morn and a thunder cloud came up from SW or W at 3 1/2 in eve and we had a pretty good shower till 5 - which made ground muddy and needed too. Willie and Dud plowed corn till 11 1/4 in morn and finished all but last planting. Willie went to Wiley's in eve and Dud ran cultivator in late corn till 4 in eve and got nearly wet. I hoed tomatoes and pepper in field in morn.

Sat. 12th. Bright and warm most of day but thunder showers passed around some in eve and sprinkled here at 1 1/2 in eve and again late in eve. Willie and Wiley went to town in Wiley's buggy in morn and Dud drove the wagon too and carried a bbl of corn to mill and they returned at 12 1/4 and brought some ice and we had ice cream in eve and Wiley and family and Clarence L and Mrs. James and Mattie (they came at 12 1/2) all here in eve. I hoed in garden most of morn and gathered some button onions too.

Sun. 13th. Bright and warm in morn and rained around in thunder showers most of eve and sprinkled here several times and rained a slow one at 3 to 4 1/2 - enough to make ground a little muddy. Nellie and Minnie and Carmel and Mrs. James and Mattie walked to Wiley's and back late in eve. None went to SS. Gordon dined here.

Mon. 14th. Bright and warm till 2 1/2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from SW at 3 but didn't rain here then but we had a good rain from NW at 9 in night and needed too. Willie molded corn with Julia (mule) and Dud ran cultivator today. I hoed in garden and planted some pole beans where peas grew in morn.

Tue. 15th. Bright but cloudy some all day and no rain here but thunder clouds in sight in eve. Willie and Dud set out slips in Cherry cut in morn and Willie molded corn in eve and Dud ran cultivator with Sandy in eve. I set out some tomatoes and hoed some in morn and I went with Marion and little Wiley and Clarence C to creek in eve. Nellie and Charles and Bernice drove Hal to town to Mr. Kaigler's in morn and returned late in eve.

Wed. 16th. Bright and warm and no rain near. Willie molded corn and Dud ran cultivator on middles on late corn today and finished last of it late in eve. Marion hoeing pindars first time in morn. I hoed tomatoes in field in morn.

Thu. 17th. Bright and very warm and no rain near. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. I got wood for Lillie to wash early in morn and hoed tomatoes in field till 10 in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Fri. 18th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud plowed corn and Marion sowed peas today. I hoed tomatoes in field in morn and finished most of them.

Sat. 19th. Bright and very warm and getting dry and no rain in sight. Dud plowed corn early in morn and finished last of it and ran cultivator in pindars and finished them by 11 in morn. Willie and Marion and Buddy drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve. Dixie and her 3 youngest children here most of day. I hoed okra in NE corner of patch E of here and the 8 little peach trees in patch in morn.

Sun. 20th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain in sight. Nellie at Wiley's till 2 1/2 in eve and brought some sherbert from there. Viola and John Collier dined there. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me and Charles and Carl and Bro Ellis preached there and stayed here all night.

Mon. 21st. Bright and very warm and dry from NW. Bro Ellis left early in morn. Willie rode Maud Est to Ogden's in morn and she took his horse. Dud plowed the pindars today. Willie and Marion and Buddy and Charles and Jack went on creek in eve. I hoed 1/2 of bean patch on hilltop of H ridge in morn and brought in some okra and cucumbers in eve.

Tue. 22nd. Nearly clear and very warm and dry from NW and a little cloud blew up from E of N at dark but no rain here. Willie and Marion and Dud dug Irish potatoes in NE corner on oat patch till late in eve and hauled them in then. I hoed in bean patch till 9 in morn and finished there and I hoed awhile in garden. I drew water in eve for tomorrow's washing. Carmel and Mattie J went to Dixie's in morn and Rubie came back with them.

Wed. 23rd. Nearly clear and warm and dry and no rain near but a thunder cloud in sight in SW late in eve and at night. Willie and Dud and Marion finished digging Irish potatoes and hauled them in by 9 in morn and Dud rebedded some slip ground in Cherry cut balance of day and Willie cut briars in corn. I hoed in tomatoes and pepper in field in morn. Little Mary and Genie Miller and Rubie C here today and left late in eve.

Thu. 24th. Bright and warm and dry till late in eve and a thunder cloud blew up from N at dark but only dropped rain a little here but a good one just NE of here. Dud broke ground in the oat patch with the mules today and Willie hoed in cane in patch E of here. I hoed around 7 fig trees and 3 apple trees in hollow E of here in morn and brought a s'k of pine straw and a bucket of cucumbers from field in eve.

Fri. 25th. Bright and warm till 11 1/4 in morn and a thunder cloud passed around just NE of here then from NW and we had a hard sprinkle here then and bright balance of day. Dud broke ground in the oat patch with the mules today. Willie cut burrs in corn. I hoed around some fig and apple trees E of here in morn and brought in some okra and cucumbers in eve.

Sat. 26th. Bright and warm till 11 in morn and a thunder cloud blew up then but only sprinkled here and bright balance of day but we had a good rain just after midnight and needed very much. Dud broke ground in oat patch till 9 in morn and finished and he cut weeds and briars there till 11. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 11 1/4. I hoed beans and winter onions on N part of garden by 9 in morn. We had ice cream in eve and Wiley and family and Mamie Kaigler and Nora and Genie Miller and Earl all here.

Sun. 27th. We had a good rain - enough to make ground muddy - last night and bright today but little thunder showers passed around from NW in morn and in eve too and we had a good little shower from NW at 8 in eve. Willie and Minnie and children and Mattie James walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 28th. Bright, nearly clear, and warm but a breze from NW most of day and no rain here today but a thunder cloud in sight in N and NE at dark. Dud harrowed all of oat patch with both mules in morn and Willie and Marion hunted and found a sow with pigs near creek in morn and they planted oat patch in whip peas in eve and finished at sunset. I set 4 hens in old cotton house early in morn and brought in some cucumbers from field by 9 1/2 and shucked corn by 11 and made a box to set a hen in eve.

Fri. 29th. Bright and warm and dry from NW and no rain but a thunder cloud in sight from NW and N late in eve. Willie and Dud and Marion planted some whip peas in pindar patch early in morn and Dud plowed cane in patch E of here balance of day. Willie rode Maud Est to Ogden's late in eve and she refused horse. I brought a bucket of cucumbers from field in morn and went to creek with boys in eve.

Wed. 30th. Bright and warm and dry and no rain near. Willie and Dud cut burrs in corn today. I hoed part of tomatoes in field early in morn. Bernice and Viola and Rubie and little Nellie dined here today.
