JUNE 1891

Mon. June 1st. Bright, warm and dry but wind from S and thundered and showered in W in eve late. I plowed Hattie all morn and finished whip peas and plowed some cotton on upper side of Cherry cut. I harrowed with Salome all eve and finished cotton middles in Pine corner and new ground part SW of Cherry cut. Pa and Willie hilled cotton all day in cut by front gate on W side and on H ridge. Nellie and Rena went to Clara's in eve and Nellie stayed there all night.

Tue. 2nd. Bright, warm wind from S and very dry. I plowed cotton (1st plowing) all morn in Cherry cut with Salome and drove Hattie to cart to Cohen's in eve and home by sunset. Pa and Willie hilled cotton with hoes most of day. They finished H ridge and hilled some in Cherry cut. Seymour took Corinne Miller to town in our buggy in eve. She has been here since last Friday a week ago.

Wed. 3rd. Bright, warm and very dry. I plowed Salome all morn, plowing cotton in Cherry cut and finished that cut by 11 and plowed in new ground - part WSW of there with Hattie all eve in Pa and Willie's cotton. Pa and Willie hilled cotton with hoes just behind me all day.

Thu. 4th. Bright, warm and very dry. I plowed cotton W and SW of Cherry cut in new ground all morn with Hattie with 4 furrows and Pa and Willie hoed there all day. I harrowed cotton middles wtih Salome in Gate cut all eve and finished about half of that cut twice to row.

Fri. 5th. Bright, warm and very dry. Willie and I drove Salome to buggy to town in morn and I got Benedict to fix the 2 front wheels of buggy. Willie and I attended district conference. We got home at 2 1/2. I rode Salome to D Chambers in eve and she took horse.

Sat. 6th. Bright, warm and dry and thundered in SE in eve. I plowed cotton SE of Cherry cut and part of Pine corner with 4 furrows with Hattie in morn and Pa and Willie hoed behind me. Pa and Willie went to Clara's in eve. I got some sugar out of one of half molasses bbl and put some water and blackberries and plums in another to make vinegar and cut down some little trees in our calf pasture for calves in eve.

Sun. 7th. Bright, warm and dry in morn and cloudy and thundershowers passed around in eve and rained little here at 3 to 5. I rode Salome by Clara's early in morn and on to town and saw Dr McGehee about Ma and got some medicine for her and went on to academy and Nellie and Rena drove Hattie there and Lewis and Cousin Mary went and Bishop Galloway preached commencement sermon. We got home at 2 1/4 and Lewis and Mary dined here. I rode Salome to Clara's late in eve and got nearly wet in rain.

Mon. 8th. Bright, wind from W and a thundercloud came up from W at midnight but only dropped here. I plowed Hattie most of morn and finished cotton in Pine corner (1st plowing) by 10 3/4 and Pa and Willie finished hilling there with hoes in morn and they hoed in new ground SW of Cherry cut most of eve. I harrowed cotton middles in Gate cut with Salome most of eve and finished all but 7 or 8 rows. Dixie, Rena and Willie went to entertainment at academy at night and home by 12 at night.

Tue. 9th. Cloudy and warm and we had a good hard shower here at 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 in eve. Nellie and I drove Hattie to buggy to exercises at academy in morn and we got home just as rain began at 2 1/2. Willie rode Salome there at night. I had a dull headache all eve and night.

Wed. 10th. Bright and warm from S and no rain. I lay in bed with headache and vomiting all morn and got up at 12. I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve and got some things which I paid for and got a sack of oats on credit and returned an hour by sun. Pa and Willie hoed some in morn in Cane hollow. Pa was sick with a cold and they gathered some blackberries in eve.

Thu. 11th. Cloudy some all day and we had a little shower here at 10 1/4 in morn. I plowed cotton (1st time) with 4 furrows all day in Gate cut. I plowed Salome in morn and Hattie in eve. Pa and Willie hoed some in Cane hollow and some in Gate cut.

Fri. 12th. Bright and warm all morn and we had a good shower from SE at 3 to 4 1/2 in eve. I plowed cotton with Salome in Gate cut all morn and with Hattie in eve at 2 to 3 and again at 5 to 7. Pa and Willie hilled cotton with hoes just behind me all day.

Sat. 13th. Bright and warm from SE and showered here from there late in eve a little. I rode Salome to Mr. D Chambers early in morn and she refused horse. I plowed cotton in Gate cut with Hattie at 7 1/2 to 10 3/4 and finished plowing over last of our cotton - 1st time- and Pa and Willie finished with hoes by 11. Willie rode Minnie and went with Gussie to Joe Miller's in eve. I stuck my 3 tree tomatoes and hoed some in my garden on SE side of H ridge in eve and replanted my cucumbers and tomatoes.

Sun. 14th. Bright and warm from SE and showered in eve late that way but none here. I rode Salome in cow pasture in morn to see colts and to Clara's in eve and Mary and Alice both there and left in eve. Willie came home from Joe Miller's late at night.

Mon. 15th. Bright and quite warm all morn and thundershowers passed around some near in eve but only dropped rain here. I hoed in Cane hollow on SE side of H ridge most of day. Pa and Willie dug our Irish potatoes and hoed part of day in sugar cane in new ground. Nellie and Rena went to Clara's in morn and there all day.

Tue. 16th. Bright, very warm from SE and thundershowers passed around some in eve and we had a good soaking rain from W at 2 at night. I hauled out 7 cartloads of manure (cow) and put on slip ground in new ground in watermelons by 10 in morn and I hoed corn in Cane hollow and SE side of H ridge and finished there in eve. Pa and Willie finished hoeing our sugar cane in new ground by 10 in morn and hoed in their Cane hollow cotton in eve.

Wed. 17th. We had a good soaking rain at 2 this morn from W and the first we have had to wet ground since April 10 - bright today from NW. I plowed Salome most of morn and rebedded slip ground in new ground and Pa and Willie drew up rows. I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve and got a sack of oats on credit and some other things which I paid for. Pa and Willie hoed in Cane hollow in eve.

Thu. 18th. Bright, warm all morn and we had a good little shower from SW from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 in eve. I cut and hauled in all of Adam's corn (2 cartloads) on hilltop of Cherry cut by 8 1/2 and harrowed all of patch (1 acre) twice to row with Hattie by 10 1/2. Pa and Willie hoed in Cane hollow in morn and Pa and I set out all of gaps in our planted potatoe patch and 2 rows of slips in new ground at 4 1/2 to 7 in eve.

Fri. 19th. Bright, warm and no rain wind from SW. Pa, Willie and I finished setting our slips in new ground early in morn and we planted some whip peas and yellow corn in Cane hollow on SE side of H ridge and some on hilltop of Cherry cut where I harrowed on yesterday morn by 10 1/2 in morn. I rode Salome to Mr. D Chambers in eve and she refused horse second time. John and Dickie came with me into Sims' cowpasture and Bud, Dan, Lewis, Seymour and Gussie all came to cut a bee tree but the bees had left the tree.

Sat. 20th. Bright and warm from SW and a little shower passed around from there in eve but none here. Pa and I drove Hattie to buggy to Nugent place early in morn and got some palmetto for Clarissa and we got home by 3 in eve. Harry and Corinne Miller came late in eve and Corinne stayed all night and Harry went to Lewis' and stayed all night.

Sun. 21st. Bright and quite warm from SW all day and we had a good little shower from N at 12 1/2 at night. Nellie and I drove Hattie to chapel in morn and heard Mr. Burton preach a children's sermon and we got home at 2 1/4. Dan, Bud, Harry and Corinne Miller here all day and all left late in eve. Dixie, Rena and Willie went to chapel at night to children's speaking and Harry, Corinne and Seymour went with them. Dixie, Willie and Rena got home at 12 1/4 at night.

Mon. 22th. Bright and warm from N. I began to plow cotton 2nd time in morn. I plowed Salome in morn and plowed cut by front gate on W side with 4 furrows leaving a narrow middle. I plowed Hattie all eve on H ridge - plowing cotton same way. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cane hollow all day.

Tue. 23rd. Bright and quite warm all day and thundershowers passed around SE from NE late in eve nearby but no rain here. I plowed cotton all day - Salome in morn and Hattie in eve with 4 furrows on H ridge and finished that cut late in eve. Pa and Willie hoed their cotton in Cane hollow most of day.

Wed. 24th. Bright and warm and no signs of rain from NE. I arose with a dull headache but plowed cotton with Salome in Cherry cut with 4 furrows till 9 1/2 in morn and came home and laid down with headache balance of day. Pa and Willie hoed in their Cane hollow cotton most of day. Misses Cook and Grace Chambers here all day.

Thu. 25th. Bright and quite warm from SE and thundershowers passed around at 1 1/2 and again late in eve and sprinkled here then. I plowed cotton all day in Cherry cut with Salome in morn and Hattie in eve. Pa and Willie hoed in their fence row cut of cotton all day.

Fri. 26th. Bright and quite warm from SE in morn and cloudy and thundershowers passed around most of eve but only sprinkled here late in eve. I plowed cotton with Salome all morn and finished Cherry cut with 4 furrows and plowed Hattie all eve in Gate cut of cotton. Pa and Willie hoed all day in their cotton in fence row cut in morn and in Cane hollow in eve. Nellie and Rena walked to Clara's in eve.

Sat. 27th. Bright, warm and getting dry - no rain today. I plowed cotton most of morn with Salome in Gate cut running 4 furrows. Pa and Willie hoed in their new ground cotton SW of Cherry cut in morn. I drove Hattie to cart to Cohen's in eve and got a bbl of meal and 3/4 sack of oats and some other things and returned before sunset.

Sun. 28th. Bright, warm and thundershowers passed around E from SE late in eve near but none here. Dixie and Rena walked to Mr. D Chambers in morn and there all day. Nellie rode Hattie and I Salome to Clara's in eve and cloud ran us home late in eve but didn't rain here.

Mon. 29th. Bright, warm and dry from SW and thundered in E in eve. I plowed Salome in morn all of planted cane on W side of new ground and some little of stubble cane on NE side with 6 furrows (laying by). I plowed cotton with Hattie in Gate cut all eve with 4 furrows. Pa and Willie hoed over all of their cotton in Pine corner today.

Tue. 30th. Bright, warm and dry from W - no rain. I plowed Salome in morn and Hattie in eve in Gate cut of cotton with 4 furrows and finished that cut by 5 3/4 in eve. Pa and Willie hoed in their new ground of cotton SW of Cherry cut all day and finished there.
