JULY 1920

Thu. July 1st. Bright and warm and no rain in sight today. Willie and Marion hoed cotton in patch N of here in morn. I hoed in new garden in morn.

Fri. 2nd. Bright and very warm and dry from W and no rain in sight. Willie and Minnie and Carl drove Buck and Marion rode Sandy to town in eve. I hoed in new garden in morn and finished there and hoed nest egg squashes in old garden too and gathered cucumbers in new garden late in eve.

Sat. 3rd. Bright early in morn and a cloud came up from SW at 9 in morn and rained a little rain here then and sprinkled on most of day. Willie drove Buck to town at 10 in morn and brought Nellie and Charles home at 4 in eve (they have been at Wiley's for a week). I hoed tomatoes in field by 9 in morn and got nearly wet coming home.

Sun. 4th. Cloudy and rained around some in showers from W in morn and thundered and rained around some in eve but none here. All but Nellie and me went to SS in eve and Bro Speigel preached there.

Mon. 5th. Bright and very warm and rained around far off in morn and in eve too and at night but none here. Dud and Wiley plowed sugar cane in field and part of potatoes there today. I dug up ground and planted some Irish potatoes in new garden today. Martin and Pearl and Janie Chambers here most of eve.

Tue. 6th. Bright and windy from SW most of day and thundered in NW most of eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 9 in night and we had a big washing rain. Dud and Wiley ran harrows in cotton on creek today and Willie ran side harrow in cotton in patch E of here with Buck today and was sick with headache at night. I dug up ground and planted Irish potatoes in new garden today.

Wed. 7th. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy all eve and thundered in SW and cloud came up near but only sprinkled a little here. Dud and Wiley set out yam vines in morn and Lanehart and hands got some vines here in morn. I hoed up some ground in old garden to plant Irish potatoes in morn.

Thu. 8th. Bright and warm and no rain today. Wiley and Dud hoed in their cotton. Willie and Marion worked in potatoes in field. I planted some Irish potatoes in old garden today.

Fri. 9th. Bright and very warm till 4 in eve and clouded up and rained with good deal of thunder till dark - not a big rain but a slow one. Willie and Marion worked in potatoes in field till the rain and got wet and milked in a slow one late in eve. I dug up ground in old garden in morn and planted 2 rows of Irish potatoes there in eve and picked some dry beans in new garden just after dinner.

Sat. 10th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve. I dug up 2 rows in old garden in morn and planted them in Irish potatoes in eve.

Sun. 11th. Bright and very warm and no rain here but a rain cloud in sight in SW late in eve. Willie and I walked over Coon field early in morn to see crop.

Mon. 12th. Bright and very warm till 1 1/2 in eve and clouded up from SE then and we had a slow rain with a good deal of thunder till 3 1/2 and quit. I dug up 2 rows in old garden in morn and picked some dry beans in new garden at 1 1/2 to 2 in eve and planted some Irish potatoes in old garden at 3 1/2 to 4 in eve. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to B C's for tomatoes in eve.

Tue. 13th. Bright and warm in morn and a cloud passed around W of here from S near with good deal of thunder but no rain here. I dug up and planted 1 row of Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and shelled some dry beans just after dinner. Martin C dined here and got some figs.

Wed. 14th. Bright and very warm till 2 in eve and clouded up and rained around with some thunder most of eve and we had a slow one but not much. I hoed tomatoes on ditch in field in morn. Willie and Marion drove Buck and Sandy to town in eve to ball game.

Thu. 15th. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and clouded up then and we had a big long rain from N with some thunder at 4 to 7. Willie and Marion shucked and shelled a bbl of corn in barn in morn. I hoed in new garden in morn and picked some dry beans in new garden at 2 1/2 to 3 1/2.

Fri. 16th. It rained in little showers some in morn and some in eve with some thunder in eve. Willie put cattle in pasture in morn and got nearly wet. I saved some cucumber seed in morn and planted Irish potatoes in new garden where rain washed them up in eve.

Sat. 17th. Bright and warm in morn and rained a little in eve. Willie and Marion dipped cattle in morn and Willie and Minnie drove Buck and Sandy to town in eve. I patched up gate on S side of cow pen and brought some tomatoes from field in morn and helped Marion to milk in eve.

Sun. 18th. Cloudy some all day and began to rain from NW at 10 in morn and lasted till 3 in eve - a big rain in all. Gordon here till 5 in eve. Nellie walked to Lanehart's in morn to stay with children. Lanehart and wife went to Antioch church and she came home late in eve.

Mon. 19th. Bright most of day but thundered and rained around most of day and we didn't have much today. I hoed around 3 fig trees in hollow toward cow pen and helped Mrs. Lanehart to gather some figs and gathered some for Minnie to preserve in morn.

Tue. 20th. Cloudy and we had a big rain at 11 to 12 with some thunder and cloudy some all eve. Willie and Carl drove Sandy and Buck to Wiley's early in morn and returned at dusk and brought Carmel home. She has been gone more than a month. I brought some tomatoes from field in morn.

Wed. 21st. Bright some today and didn't rain but little but rained around good deal. I hoed some in new garden in morn and in eve too. I hoed the ground planted in 6 rows of Irish potatoes or a part of it.

Thu. 22nd. Bright some today and a thunder cloud out N of here all eve and rained there most of eve but only sprinkled here today. I hoed in new garden some in morn and packed some cucumbers out for hogs in eve. Carmel and Marion drove Buck and Sandy to town in morn and returned at 12. Willie rode Daisie and went with Lanehart to see crop on Chambers' place in morn.

Fri. 23rd. Bright and very warm and no rain here today but thundered and rained far off. Willie and Minnie and Carmel drove Buck and Daisie to buggy and Marion rode Sandy to town to barbecue in morn and returned at dark. Carmel went home with Lucile J. I hoed some on W side of new garden in morn and went to tomatoe patch and on and got some canes and burned out 2 blow guns in eve in kitchen.

Sat. 24th. Bright and very warm and no rain here but thundered around far off most of eve. Marion rode Sandy to town in eve and Willie drove Buck and brought Carmel home at sunset. Dud drove the mules to town in morn and brought back more than a bbl of meal in eve. I hoed in new garden on W side in morn.

Sun. 25th. Bright and very warm and no rain here but lightning in SE and NW at dark. I got okra and tomatoes in garden and brought tomatoes from field early in morn.

Mon. 26th. Bright and very warm till 3 1/2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up near here from NE but no rain here. Dud and Wiley plowed their potatoes in morn. I planted some cucumbers on W side of new garden and hoed some there in morn. Marion rode Buck to town in eve.

Tue. 27th. Bright and very warm till 3 in eve and a cloud came up from NE at 4 and we had a good shower here till 5. I hoed in new garden in morn. Luster James and Lucile and Rembert and little Lewis and Jack came in a car in morn and gathered figs in eve and left after the rain and Marion went with them.

Wed. 28th. Bright and very warm till 3 in eve and clouded up then and we had a big washing rain at 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 in eve and lightning struck a pecan tree near kitchen. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden and brought some tomatoes from field in morn and shelled some dry beans in eve.

Thu. 29th. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and clouded up and rained some at 4 and slowly some till sunset. I hoed around 2 fig trees out E of here and got okra and tomatoes from new garden in morn. Seymour D came at 12 and here at night.

Fri. 30th. Bright and warm most of day and no rain today. I burned out blow guns in back yard and made some arrows today and brought tomatoes from field in morn. Seymour left in morn.

Sat 31st. Bright and warm and no rain here and none in sight. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and burned out blow guns in eve. Willie drove Buck to town in eve to bring Sims out but he didn't come to town.
