JULY 1917

Sun. Jul. 1st. Bright and very warm and thundered around far off but no rain near. Rena and Nellie and Jack went to Jack D's on yesterday and Marion and little Wiley went there this morning and Wiley dined here. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Carl went to SS in eve and Nellie and Charles to Lanehart's.

Mon. 2nd. Bright and very warm and no rain but thundered around some in eve. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in cotton. Willie hunted weevils in morn and rode Daisie to Surgett's to see cattle in eve. I dug up old strawberry ground in old garden for Irish potatoes in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Tue. 3rd. Bright and very warm and no rain but thundered around some in eve. Dud and Sidney ran cultivators in cane in patch N of here and on slip ground in patch E of here today. Willie hunted weevils in cotton in morn and drove Daisie to town in eve. I hoed in tomatoes in field in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Wed. 4th. Bright and very warm and dry and no rain but thundered around some, Rena and children and Nora L dined here. Willie and Marion dipped cattle at Elmwood in morn. I hoed and finished tomatoe patch in field in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Thu. 5th. Bright and warm and very dry and no rain but thundered around some in eve. Willie and Dud and Sidney picked up Squares today and shelled some bread corn in eve too. Willie and Wiley and Buddy and Marion cut a bee tree in eve. I got wood and water for Ruth to wash early in morn.

Fri. 6th. Bright and very warm all morn and cloudy in eve and rained around some and rained a little slow one here in night. Dud and Sidney hauled out manure from cow pens and stables in morn and put on Irish potatoe patch N of here and picked up Squares in eve. Willie picked up Squares in morn. I dug up ground in old garden for Irish potatoes.

Sat. 7th. It rained a little last night and bright and very warm from W today and thundered around in eve and at night. Marion and Sidney dipped cattle early in morn and Willie drove Daisie and Dud drove wagon to town in morn and carried some ------ for Marion and one bbl of corn to mill and returned at 1 in eve.

Sun. 8th. Bright and very warm till 4 in eve and clouded up then and we had a pretty good rain at 6 to 7 in eve from NE with some thunder. Carmel and Marion drove Daisie to Methodist church in town in morn and Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve.

Mon. 9th. Bright and warm and no rain here but a thunder cloud passed around NW from N in eve. Dud and Sidney plowed slip ground in patch E of here in morn and middles in cotton in eve. Willie and Marion picked up Squares today. I dug up old strawberry ground in old garden in morn and planted Irish potatoes there.

Tue. 10th. Bright and very warm and no rain near. Dud and Sidney plowed cotton today and Willie picked up Squares. I dug up old strawberry ground in old garden and planted Irish potatoes there in morn.

Wed. 11th. Bright and very warm and no rain near. Dud and Sidney finished plowing cotton and plowed cane today. I dug up old strawberry ground in old garden and planted Irish potatoes there in morn.

Thu. 12th. Bright and very warm till 5 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW then and we had a good hard shower with some hail and thunder till 6. Dud and Sidney cut briars and bushes in cow pasture today. I dug up ground in old strawberry patch in old garden and planted Irish potatoes there in morn and finished them. West here in eve while it rained.

Fri. 13th. Bright and warm from W and no rain in sight today. Dud and Sidney cut briars in cow pasture today. Willie rode Daisie to Surgett's to see cattle in morn and rode her to Bro Tom's in eve. I set out some tomatoes in field in morn.

Sat. 14th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Sidney cut briars in pasture in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to town in eve and brought back some ice and we had milk shake at dusk. I hoed some in new garden in morn and felt very feverish and took 2 pills at 11 in morn which worked me at dark.

Sun. 15th. Bright and warm till 4 in eve and clouded up then and rained around in thunder showers balance of eve but none here. Bernice came home last night from Normal and here awhile in morn. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there.

Mon. 16th. Cloudy and began to rain early in morn from S with some thunder and lasted till 10 - a good rain and wet ground pretty well - and cloudy some all eve. Willie and Marion and Dud and Sidney set out yams at 10 to 12 and all eve in patch E of here. I set out some pepper in new garden at 10 1/2 to 11 1/2 in morn.

Tue. 17th. Bright and warm and no rain. Willie and Marion and Dud and Sidney set out yams all day in patch E of here. I set out some tomatoes in field in morn.

Wed. 18th. Bright and warm all morn and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 1 1/2 in eve and we had a good soaking rain till 2 1/2 which wet ground well. Willie and Marion dipped cattle at Elmwood in morn. Dud and Sidney plowed ground and planted Irish potatoes in patch N of here in morn and set out slips in patch E of here in eve. I hoed around 2 fig trees toward cow pen in morn and cut some Irish potatoes too.

Thu. 19th. Bright and warm till 4 in eve and thundered and rained around till 5 1/2 but none here. Willie drove Daisie to town in morn and returned at 12. Dud and Sidney finished planting Irish potatoes in patch N of here and hoed in cotton balance of day. I set out some tomatoes in field and finished them in morn. Mrs. Kaigler and Miss Lottie here today.

Fri. 20th. Bright and warm till late in eve and clouded up from SW and rained a slow rain here till dark. Dud and Sidney ran harrows in slips in patch E of here and in cotton balance of morn and helped Wiley to set out slips in eve. I planted some beans in new garden amd hoed some there in morn.

Sat. 21st. Bright from S till 10 in morn and rained 2 little showers before 12 and rained a little shower in eve. Willie and Marion dipped cattle early in morn and Willie drove Daisie to town in eve. Dud and Sidney hoed planted potatoes in patch E of here in morn. I hoed all tomatoe patch in field by 10 in morn.

Sun. 22nd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Bro Tom and little Hattie dined here. Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve. Seymour and little Dixie came late in eve and here all night.

Mon. 23rd. Bright and warm and no rain here but a thunder cloud passed around from W to NW in eve. Dud and Sidney harrowed cotton today. Seymour and little Dixie went to Lewis' late in eve. I hoed strawberries in old garden in morn.

Tue. 24th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie drove Daisie to town early in morn and carried Carmel and she took train to go to Percy's. Dud and Sidney finished harrowing cotton at 5 in eve and harrowed cane by sunset. I hoed strawberries and Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Wed. 25th. Bright and warm and no rain here but a thunder cloud passed around E of here from S and they had a good rain on Slip's Road at 5 in eve. Dud and Sidney hoed slips in patch E of here today. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Thu. 26th. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and thundered and rained around at 3 to 6 in eve but none here. Dud and Sidney hoed slips in patch E of here today and finished them. I repaired outside gate to cow pen by 9 1/2 and Willie and I brought 3 watermelons from field by 10 1/2.

Fri. 27th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Sidney plowed slips in patch E of here today and finished them late in eve. I hoed late beans in new garden in morn.

Sat. 28th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Dud and Sidney didn't work today. Dud drove red mule to buggy to town in morn and got some ice for a frolic over creek. Willie and Minnie drove Daisie to town in eve and returned at dusk. I hoed beans in new garden in morn.

Sun. 29th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Minnie and children went to SS in eve and Nellie to Wiley's.

Mon. 30th. Bright and very warm and rained around some in eve but none here. Dud and Sidney hoed in cotton today. Willie rode Maud Est to Ogden's in eve but she refused horse. I hoed over tomatoes in field in morn. Speigle preached at SS at night and Willie and Minnie and Marion walked there at night.

Tue. 31st. Bright and very warm till 2 1/2 in eve and a thunder shower just NW of here till 3 1/2 and another just SE of here at 4 to 5 1/2 but only dropped a little here. Dud and Sidney hoed in cotton today. I hoed around the bought pecan trees and pear trees in morn and around 3 peach trees in patch E of here.
