JULY 1895

Mon. July 1st. Bright most of day and warm and thundershowers passed around W from SW at 12 and some in eve late but only dropped rain here. I plowed cotton all day (2nd time) in Cane hollow with Hattie (I ran 4 furrows). Pa and Willie hoed cotton all day on H ridge.

Tue. 2nd. Bright and warm all morn and rained around in thundershowers from 11 to 4 in eve but only sprinkled here at 12 and at 2 and at 4. Pa and Willie hoed cotton all day on H ridge and I plowed cotton in Cane hollow with Hattie all day. We ran home from rain at 4 in eve but went right back. Nellie walked to Clara's in morn and there all day.

Wed. 3rd. Bright and quite warm and thundered and showered around some but none here. Pa and Willie hoed cotton on H ridge all day and finished that cut all but 3 rows and I plowed cotton all day in Cane hollow in morn and in Fence row cut in eve. I had a dull headache all eve and worse at night and slept but little.

Thu. 4th. Bright but cloudy some in morn and we had a good hard shower at 12 and another at 2 to 4 and much needed (both from W). Pa and Willie hoed cotton in orchard in morn and did nothing in eve. I lay down and vomited with headache most of morn. I drank some coffee at 10 and quit vomiting but headache didn't get much better till night. I slept well at night.

Fri. 5th. Bright and a pleasant W breeze and no rain. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in orchard all day. I plowed cotton on S side of Cane hollow all morn and on W side of Cherry cut all eve (Hattie). Bro. Bishop dined here at 1 and left at 3 in eve.

Sat. 6th. Bright and a pleasant SW breeze all day and very drying weather. I plowed cotton on W side of Cherry cut all day. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in orchard in morn. Pa walked to Clara's and Willie to baseball game in eve.

Sun. 7th. Bright and a pleasant but very dry W breeze all day. Mrs. Baker here last night and all today and at night again and Gussie and Helen and baby here all day and Beau C and W.D. here in eve and till 9 at night and Dan and Buddy here in eve. I rode Hattie to Clara's in eve.

Mon. 8th. Bright and warm and dry from W all day and thundered and showered W of here not far off at 9 to 11 at night. I plowed cotton in Cherry cut and Water hole part all day (Hattie) and ground is getting too dry to plow well. Willie hoed cotton and cane in orchard all day and Pa dug Irish potatoes in NE corner of orchard all day.

Tue. 9th. Bright and very warm till 1 and a thundershower came up then from NW and rained a little shower here at 2 and another at 7 to 8 in eve from W. I plowed cotton most of day in Water hole cut running 6 furrows to row for ground was hard and very grassy. Hattie hurt her leg on a stump yesterday eve and is lame today (her right foreleg).

Wed. 10th. Bright and very warm and no rain but thundered around in eve some. I plowed cotton in Water hole cut all morn and 1 hour after dinner and finished there and I plowed balance of eve on H ridge. Pa and Willie finished cane and digging Irish potatoes in orchard late in eve.

Thu. 11th. Bright and quite warm and thundered around all eve but no rain here and ground is getting hard. Pa scraped 8 rows of slips on NE corner of Persimmon cut in morn and Willie hoed cotton in Cherry cut all day and Pa there in eve. I broke up Irish potatoe patch in NE corner of orchard (for slips) early in morn and plowed cotton there balance of day (Hattie).

Fri. 12th. Bright and very warm and dry and no rain but thundered far off some. I plowed cotton in orchard in morn and drove Hattie to new buggy to Cohen's in eve. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cherry cut all day.

Sat. 13th. Bright and quite warm and dry but thundered and showered far off some. Pa and Willie hoed in cotton in Cherry cut till 9 1/2 in morn. I harrowed cane in Gate cut (in oat ground) twice to row on ridges (the corn is in water furrows) by 9 1/2 in morn with Hattie and we did nothing balance of day. Tigner and Mary came at 10 in morn from Clara's and stayed all day and George F here to dinner and all went to watch game of baseball in eve but Nellie and Mary and me. Beau C and W.D. here to supper.

Sun. 14th. Bright and warm and dry but thundered far off some. I carried Sims some apples in morn and got some papers. Pa walked to Clara's in morn and there all day. Mrs. Baker here all day and at night. I drove Hattie to Clara's in eve and brought Ma here to stay a week.

Mon. 15th. Bright and warm and dry from W. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cherry cut all day. I plowed cotton and cane on W side of orchard in morn and I hoed all eve in late corn in Gate cut (1st hoeing).

Tue. 16th. Bright and warm and dry from W. Pa and Willie hoed cotton most of day in Cherry cut and Cane hollow. I finished plowing cotton and cane in orchard on W side by 10 1/4 in morn and I hoed in late corn in Gate cut in eve. I had a dull pain in left side of my head early and I took 2 Pierce's pills which relieved it.

Wed. 17th. Bright and very warm and dry till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up then from SE at 5 3/4 but only sprinkled here. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cherry cut and Cane hollow most of day. I hoed in late corn in Gate cut most of day.

Thu. 18th. Bright and very warm and dry till 4 1/2 in eve and a heavy cloud came up from E and passed around from S to E with a great deal of thunder and we had a good slow rain at 5 to 6. Nellie and Helen drove Hattie to Mr. D Chambers in morn and there all day. Ma spent day at Lewis'. Lewis borrowed our cart in morn to haul out some manure. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cane hollow in morn. I hoed in late corn in Gate cut in morn and in eve at 3 to 4 3/4 and cloud ran me home then. Hamp Bonney here at 11 1/2 to 1 1/2.

Fri. 19th. Bright and very warm till 4 1/2 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from the E then and we had a good shower at 5 to 5 1/2. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cane hollow in morn and Willie went to baseball game in eve. I hoed in late corn in Gate cut most of morn and Lewis brought cart home at 9 3/4 in morn and got some apples. I drove Hattie to Clara's in eve and carried Ma home and was at Clara's during rain and returned at sunset.

Sat. 20th. Bright but cloudy some all morn and we had a good shower from SE at 12 to 1 and slowly till 2 and quit and we had another shower at 5 and slowly till 6 and rained some through the night. Pa and Willie hoed in Cane hollow awhile in morn and I hoed in late corn in Gate cut and finished it at 7 1/2 and hoed over Irish potatoe ground in NE corner of orchard (for planting slips) by 9 in morn. Pa and I drove Hattie to Turnbull's for a Primary meeting at 1 to 6 in eve.

Sun. 21st. Cloudy and rained most of day in showers from NW and rained hard from 3 to 6 and again from 8 to 10 1/2 -a big fall of water in all. Pa rode Hattie to Alice's in morn and to Clara's in eve. I walked to Lewis' in morn and carried mail and some figs. Willie at Gussie's all day. W.D. and B.C. here in eve and B.C. left at 10 1/2 in rain and W.D. stayed all night.

Mon. 22nd. Cloudy and wet and showered early in morn at 9 1/2 and sprinkled rain several times in eve. I walked to Sims' at 9 to 10 1/2 in morn and carried some apples and peaches and got some papers. Pa and I set out slips in Irish potatoepatch in NE corner of orchard (Queen's and Spanish's) in eve and finished late in eve. Bud here all day.

Tue. 23rd. Cloudy most of morn and showered ay 11 1/2 and bright and warm in eve from SW. Pa pulled grass out of patch in Persimmon cut all day. Willie hoed cotton on H ridge in morn and in Cane hollow in eve. I plowed road opposite here and worked some of it with hoe and hoed some in cotton on H ridge and I plowed cotton on H ridge all eve with Hattie but ground was too wet to plow well.

Wed. 24th. Foggy and wet till 9 in morn and bright and warm till 2 and a cloud came up from SW then and sprinkled rain till 3 and quit. Pa and Willie hoed in cotton in Cane hollow in morn and from 4 to 6 1/4 in eve. I plowed cotton on H ridge all morn and plowed some there in eve and plowed out the 8 rows of slips on NE corner of Persimmon cut too at 4 to 6 1/4 in eve. Clara here in eve and I gathered some figs and peaches and apples for her at 2 to 3 1/2. I had a dull headache all day but it went off early in night.

Thu. 25th. It began to rain in slow showers at 7 in morn from NW and lasted till late in eve (at sunset). Pa and I packed and cut up some wood early in morn and I worked road some with a hoe by bars (on roadside) at 9 to 10 1/2. Doug Walker came in morn to see Willie's 5 yearlings but didn't buy them and he dined here and left at 1 1/2. We did nothing on account of rain in eve.

Fri. 26th. Bright and warm after 9 1/2 in morn and no rain. Willie and I hoed cotton in hollow on SE side of H ridge untill 9 1/2 in morn and Pa cut weeds in yard. Dan dined here and Willie and Wiley D with him and they cut a bee tree in eve. Dixie and Gussie started to Seymour's at 3 in eve.

Sat. 27th. Bright and warm and no rain except a sprinkle at 9 in morn. I drove Hattie to old buggy to Cohen's in morn and carried some peaches and apples to them and carried 1 doz young chickens but couldn't sell them and brought them back. I got 2 doz qt. jars and 10 lbs coffee on credit and returned at 11 3/4. Willie rode Joe to Percy's Creek to baseball in morn and returned at 11 at night. Dan and Joe Miller here in eve.

Sun. 28th. Bright and warm and no rain. I carried some peaches and apples to Sims' early in morn and got some papers. Mrs Baker here all day and at night and Wiley D here all day and till 9 at night.

Mon. 29th. Bright and warm and no rain but thundered around some in eve. I plowed cotton on H ridge till 10 in morn and I harrowed young corn in Gate cut twice between rows in eve. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Cane hollow most of day and finished there.

Tue. 30th. Bright and warm and no rain. I plowed cotton on H ridge in morn. I rode Hattie and went with Mr. Sims in eve and we caught Emily with stolen goods (Kingston Davis'). Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Water hole cut in morn and Willie rode Joe to Ed Ogden's in eve. Doug Walker here at 11 and bought Willie's 5 yearlings for $29.

Wed. 31st. Bright and warm and no rain but thundered around late in eve. Clara here all day. I finished plowing cotton on SE circle of H ridge at 9 1/2 and plowed little of late corn in Gate cut by 11. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Water hole cut in morn and we didn't work in eve on account of heat. Wiley D and Rena went to Chapel at night but there was no preaching and they returned at 9 3/4 at night.
