JANUARY 1921

Sat. Jan. 1st. Cloudy and warm from SW till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from NW at 4 and we had a pretty big rain till 7 1/2 at night. Willie and Marion drove Buck to town in morn. I hoed strawberries in new garden in morn and finished them.

Sun. 2nd. Cloudy and very cool from N all day and we had a big rain from NW in night. Earl and Ernest here awhile in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and carried Marion to go on to school. Charles and I fed horses and cows late in eve.

Mon. 3rd. Bright and cool in morn but warm in eve. Willie and I cut up good deal of wood in morn and Willie set out some locust trees in patch E of house in eve. Carmel taught school today and Cap brought Annie and Hattie in morn.

Tue. 4th. Cloudy and warm and misted and sprinkled rain some today. Willie cut up wood and set out some locusts in morn. I set out 15 June peach trees and 12 quince trees in old garden in morn.

Wed. 5th. Bright and warm. Wiley carried a load of his cotton to gin early in morn and Willie rode Buck and went and they returned with the bale late in eve and reloaded wagon. I set out 10 strawberry plants from old garden in NE corner of new garden and set out gaps in strawberries too in morn.

Thu. 6th. Bright and warm. Wiley carried 2nd load of his cotton to gin very early in morn and returned at 1 1/2 in eve and reloaded wagon in eve. Willie went and came with him - drove Buck. I set out some fig trees in old garden in morn.

Fri. 7th. Bright and warm from S. Wiley carried 3rd bale of his cotton to gin early in morn and returned with the bale at 1. Willie drove Buck to gin and carried Minnie as far as Willie James'. I shelled 3 p'ks of bread corn and hoed some of strawberries in new garden in morn.

Sat. 8th. Cloudy and dropped and sprinkled rain some in morn and till 4 in eve abd rained a big one early in night. Wiley drove wagon and carried some cans of molasses to town in morn and Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn and all returned in eve. I hoed strawberries and onions in new garden in morn.

Sun. 9th. Bright and a cold wind from N all day. All of us home all day.

Mon. 10th. Bright and a white frost in morn and freeze but wind from S and warmer in eve. Willie and I cut up wood in morn and Willie hunted cattle in eve.

Tue. 11th. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and very cool. Wiley carried his 4th and last bale of cotton to gin in morn and returned at 3 with the bale. Willie drove Buck and carried Nellie as far as Willie James' to go on to Wiley's. I got some pine straw and put up 3 hens' nests in morn.

Wed. 12th. Cloudy and chilly from N of E all day and night too and rained a little in eve and night too. Wiley and Dud cut wood in morn and rain stopped them at 12. Willie hunted stock in morn. I patched a pair of pants in morn.

Thu. 13th. Cloudy and chilly from SE and began to rain from NW at 10 in morn and lasted till late in eve - a big fall of water - and chilly from NW all night. We did nothing but get wood and feed. Willie drove Buck to schoolhouse for Carmel and children late in eve.

Fri. 14th. Bright and a cold wind from NW all day and frost at night. Willie drove Buck to Nels Angels' in eve. I took down part of butter bean arbor in new garden in morn.

Sat. 15th. Clear and a little frost in morn and a pleasant day. Dud drove wagon to mill in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve and brought Nellie home from Wiley's. I cut briars around old garden in morn to put up wire there.

Sun. 16th. Clear and cool from W - a pleasant day. All but Nellie and me went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 17th. Bright and pleasant. Willie set out locust sprouts today. I cut briars on N side of old garden in morn.

Tue. 18th. Bright and cool in morn and warm in eve. Willie set out locusts today. I worked on W side of new garden in morn taking down butter bean arbor and okra stalks.

Wed. 19th. Bright and cool from SE. Willie set out locusts. Dud and Wiley cut wood. I hoed strawberries in new garden in morn.

Thu. 20th. Bright and pleasant from S. Willie and Wiley and Dud hauled some plank from Wiley's in morn and Wiley and Dud hauled sood in eve from Luckey field and Willie put up hens' nests under old kitchen shed in eve. I hoed strawberries in new garden in morn.

Fri. 21st. Bright and pleasant from S. Dud and Wiley hauled wood all day and Willie put up hens' nests in morn and made some new steps to gallery in eve. I worked in new garden in morn and Willie and I shelled some bread corn on eve.

Sat. 22nd. Foggy till 10 in morn and bright balance of day. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. I planted some onions and lettuce and beets in new garden in morn.

Sun. 23rd. Bright and pleasant. Gordon dined here. All home all day.

Mon. 24th. Bright but cloudy some. Dud and Wiley hauled wood in morn and cow manure in eve. Willie patched roof of kitchen. I dug and manured 2 rows to plant Irish potatoes in new garden in morn.

Tue. 25th. Bright but cloudy some. It rained a little bit just before day in the morn. Wiley and Dud hauled out manure all day and finished it. Willie patched roof of kitchen. I planted 2 rows of Irish potatoes on east side of new garden in morn.

Wed. 26th. Cloudy some but bright and a cold wind from N all day but not quite cold enough to freeze. Wiley and Dud threshed peas all day in old kitchen. I planted one row of Irish potatoes in new garden in morn.

Thu. 27th. Bright and not quite cold enough to freeze and pleasant in sunshine after 10 in morn. Wiley and Dud finished threshing peas in morn and cleaned off ground in field in eve. I worked some in new garden in morn.

Fri. 28th. Bright and a white frost and ice early in morn but pleasant in sunshine after 10 in morn. Willie and Wiley and Dud cleaned off ground in field today. I manured a row in new garden on east side and planted it in Irish potatoes in morn making 4 rows in all planted in potatoes.

Sat. 29th. Cloudy some and warmer today. Willie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. Dud hauled some wood for himself in morn. I packed manure from cow pen and just outside of there and put over wire fence into new garden in morn.

Sun. 30th. Bright and cool from NW and getting dry. Joe Miller and Lee Chambers dined here. Carmel and Pearl Chambers drove Buck to Bill Ferguson's in morn and returned at dusk.

Mon. 31st. Bright and very cool but cloudy some all day. Wiley and Dud began and plowed all day breaking ground and Willie cleaned off ground. I planted onion sets in morn and some in eve in new garden.
