JANUARY 1919

Wed. Jan. 1st. Cloudy and began to rain at 9 in morn from SW and changed to NW and rained balance of day and all night without ceasing and chilly too from N. We fed and milked and got wood in rain.

Thu. 2nd. It rained all morn and began to sleet at 2 in eve and to snow at 3 and lasted till 4 1/2 and covered nearly everything and freezing cold from N all night. We did nothing but get wood and feed today.

Fri. 3rd. Bright, nearly clear, and everything covered with snow and cold from N and didn't thaw much all day and very cold all night. We did nothing but get wood and feed.

Sat. 4th. Bright, nearly clear, and a very hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw the ground and snow much all day. Willie drove the grey mules to Lanehart's surry to Mrs. James' in morn and returned at dusk with Mrs. Maggie Johnson and 3 children. I cut up wood in morn and fed everything in eve.

Sun. 5th. Bright, nearly clear, but didn't much of ice and snow melt and very cold. We did nothing but get wood and feed. Willie and Marion drove up Rabbit cow from Wiley's with a red bull calf in morn.

Mon. 6th. Bright, nearly clear, and a hard freeze in morn but turned warmer today and nearly all of snow and ice melted off. I got wood for Leah to wash early in morn and cut some wood. Willie hunted and found all of his hogs today.

Tue. 7th. Cloudy and chilly but all of snow melted and a damp wind from SE and rained some in eve and at night and turned cold from N. Willie and I walked in Wiley's field and saw a young white calf belonging to a red cow early in morn and I packed some manure and put around a pecan tree. Wiley came on his wagon at 1 in eve and left his mules and wagons here for Dago and Leah to move on tomorrow and he rode Sandy back home in eve.

Wed. 8th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cold wind from N all day and a freeze at night. Willie drove the grey mules to wagon to town in morn and returned in eve with a bbl of flour and a bbl meal and a s'k of coffee and a s'k salt. I cut up good deal wood early in morn and packed manure and put around pecan trees till 12.

Thu. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and a very white frost and hard freeze in morn and wind from N all day. Willie and Dud killed and cleaned and cut up little old bowback sow early in morn and Willie hunted cattle balance of day. I packed manure and put around pecan trees in morn.

Fri. 10th. Bright, nearly clear, and a hard freeze in morn and wind cold from N and did'nt thaw in shade all day. Willie hunted cattle most of day and drove up Plug with a young calf late in eve. I packed manure and put around pecan trees in morn.

Sat. 11th. Bright, nearly clear, and a hard freeze in morn and pleasant in sun after 10 in morn but didn't quite thaw all of ice all day. Willie drove grey mules to Lanehart's surry and carried Mrs. Maggie Johnson and 3 children to Mrs. James' in morn and returned at 8 1/2 at night. I packed manure and put around pecan trees in morn.

Sun. 12th. Bright, nearly clear, and a freeze and frost in morn but pleasant in sun after 10 in morn. Gordon dined here. None went to SS in eve. Lewis sick with Flu.

Mon. 13th. Bright and very cool early in morn but warmer in eve from S. Luster James brought Lucile at 9 1/2 in morn and left at 3 in eve. I put manure around one pecan tree in morn and cut up some wood. Willie got his hogs from on creek late in eve and tried to get his meat hogs in pen but did not.

Tue. 14th. Cloudy and warm from SW all day and rained some in night from N. Willie and Dud sawed down the pecan tree near Minnie's room and the one which chickens roosted in early in morn and Willie cut up limbs into wood balance of day and Dud hauled wood for himself balance of day. I cut up good deal of stove wood all morn.

Wed. 15th. Cloudy and very cool from NE all day and rained a little late in eve and at night. Dud and Wiley Woods cut and sawed up the 2 pecan trees, sawed down on yesterday, today and Willie helped them too. I put manure around one pecan tree near old garden in morn.

Thu. 16th. Cloudy and chilly and began to rain slowly from SE at 8 1/2 in morn and lasted all day - a big fall of water - and quit at dusk. Dud and Wiley Woods sawed down the pecan tree at SE corner of flower yard and rain stopped them for the day. Willie and I fed and milked in rain in eve.

Fri. 17th. Cloudy and chilly from NW and drizzled rain some in morn and late in eve. Dud and Wiley W sawed wood in morn and they drove wagon and Willie rode Sandy and hauled 2 loads of corn from Middleton's (Surgett's place) in eve. Mary Woods washed today. I got wood for washing and fed everything in eve.

Sat. 18th. Bright and very cool early in morn but a pleasant day after 10 in morn. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I cut up good deal of stove wood in morn.

Sun. 19th. Cloudy and chilly and no sun. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and Marion and Carl and me and Bro Dawson preached there in eve. Marion is sick with a cold.

Mon. 20th. Bright and very cool in morn but pleasant in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods sawed and split wood in field today. Willie rode Sandy to Bro Tom's in eve. I put manure around one pecan tree near old garden in morn.

Tue. 21st. Cloudy all day and sprinkled rain some at 9 in morn and a thunder cloud came up from S at 10 in night and we had a big rain balance of night. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods sawed and split wood in field today. I got wood for Mary Woods to wash early in morn and brought some pine straw from field.

Wed. 22nd. It began to rain at 10 last night and lasted balance of night and all day today slowly from SE. We did nothing but get wood and feed.

Thu. 23rd. Cloudy and cool from N all day. Dud and Wiley Woods sawed and split wood in field today. Willie rode Sandy in Wiley's field in morn and drove up a red cow and 2 yearlings and put in yard to feed them and he located hogs in eve. I cut up some stove wood and put some manure around a pecan tree in morn.

Fri. 24th. Cloudy and cool all day and began to rain slowly just after dark and lasted all night. Dud and Wiley Woods sawed and split wood in field today. Mr. Middleton sent 8 wagon loads of cotton seed, 4 in morn and 4 in eve, here today for Willie to take care of. I cut up wood and put manure around one pecan tree in morn.

Sat. 25th. It rained slowly all last night and all today from NE and chilly too and quit just after sunset. We did nothing but get wood and feed.

Sun. 26th. Bright and very cool early in morn but sun shined all day and pleasant in eve. Carmel and Lucile drove Buck and Willie rode Sandy to Bill Ferguson's to burial of Audry Ferguson in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve.

Mon. 27th. Bright but cloudy some from N and cool. Dud and Wiley Woods rode the mules to Lanehart's in morn and brought the pea thresher here by 10 1/2 in morn and they threshed peas balance of day. I put manure around one pecan tree in morn and cut up some stove wood.

Tue. 28th. Bright and very cool from N. They threshed peas most of day and finished them late in eve - about 104 bus. in all. Beau C dined here today. I put manure around one pecan tree in morn and cut up some stove wood.

Wed. 29th. Bright and very cool early in morn from N but pleasant after 10 in morn. Dud hauled wood from field all day. Willie and Wiley Woods sawed and split wood in field in morn and Willie drove up Beauty with a young calf in eve. I put manure around one pecan tree in morn.

Thu. 30th. Bright and frost in morn but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods killed and cleaned and cut up and salted 6 hogs today. I kept up fire and heated water all morn and fixed salt in eve.

Fri. 31st. Bright and very cool in morn and warmer in eve. Dud hauled wood all day and pine too from field. Wiley Woods cut locust posts today. I put manure and wood around the 2 crepe myrtle trees by front gate in morn. Luster James came for Lucile at 11 in morn.
