JANUARY 1916

Sat. Jan. 1st. Cloudy and warm from SW all day and rained some in night. I chopped pine in field in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Sun. 2nd. Cloudy and began to rain slowly at 9 in morn and lasted till 2 1/2 in eve and quit and warm too. All of us home all day. Emma brought Elma in eve and went back.

Mon. 3rd. Clear and calm and pleasant. Willie cut wood at back of our field most of day. I chopped pine in field in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Tue. 4th. Clear and calm and warm. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn to see about selling peas and returned at 3 in eve. I chopped pine in field in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Wed. 5th. Foggy and wet till 10 in morn and bright and warm from SW balance of day. Willie drove our wagon and Dud Wiley's to town in morn and carried peas and sold to Trependahl at $1.42 1/2 and returned at 3 in eve. I chopped pine in field after getting wood and water for Leah to wash in morn.

Thu. 6th. Foggy and wet till 10 in morn and bright and warm from SW balance of day. Willie and Dud carried a load of peas to town on our wagon in morn and returned at 2 3/4 in eve. I chopped pine in field in morn and finished it.

Fri. 7th. Foggy early in morn and wind changed to N at 12 and cool and cloudy from N all eve. Willie and I hauled in my pine in 4 loads in morn and Willie hauled pine wood from back of our field balance of day. Carmel went home with Elma in eve.

Sat. 8th. Bright and very cool from NE. Willie walked and hunted cattle in morn. I hoed onions in garden in morn. I have a cold and was chilly at night. Seymour came here from Ashwood at dark.

Sun. 9th. Cloudy and chilly early in morn but bright and pleasant from S in eve. Seymour went to Wiley's in morn but went to town with Emma Flinn late in eve. I took 2 of Lane's pills early in morn which worked me well through the day.

Mon. 10th. Warm and cloudy and we had a little shower at 10 1/2 in morn and bright in eve. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood at back of our field today. I hoed winter onions in NW corner of garden by 10 1/2 in morn and rain stopped me and I shelled some pecans for Minnie by 12.

Tue. 11th. Warm and cloudy from SW. Willie hauled wood from back of our field today and Dud cut wood there. I picked grass out of strawberries in morn.

Wed. 12th. Warm and cloudy and windy from SW all morn and began to rain at 12 and lasted most of eve, a big fall of water in all, with some thunder, and quit at dark and blew cold all night from NW. Willie hauled wood all morn and Dud cut wood. I got wood and water for Leah to wash early in morn and picked grass out of strawberries most of morn. Willie drove Julia (mule) to buggy for Elma and children in eve.

Thu. 13th. Bright, nearly clear, and a hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw in shade all day and wind cold from N. Wiley killed 5 hogs today and Willie and Dud helped him most of day. I cut up some wood and shucked corn and fed in eve.

Fri. 14th. Bright, nearly clear, and a very hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw in shade all day but warmer in eve. Willie and Dud and Dago and Jack and William Shorter killed and cleaned and cut up 5 hogs today. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and fixed salt and salt petre for Willie in eve.

Sat. 15th. Cloudy and a freeze in morn but calm and warmer in eve. Nellie and Leah cooked lard today and Willie helped them to cut it up in morn and ground sausage and resalted his meat in eve. I cut up good deal of stove wood in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve. I felt bad all day from "Gripp".

Sun. 16th. It rained some last night and cloudy today and misted a litttle and wind from N in eve and chilly and cold from N all night. Nellie and Charles and Carl walked to Wiley's in eve. Minnie and Carmel and Marion went in buggy to Sunday School and Bro Ellis preached there. Emma brought Elma in eve.

Mon. 17th. Cloudy and a hard freeze in morn and wind from E of N all day and didn't thaw and very chilly. Willie and Dud cut wood at back of our field in eve. I sat in house most of day on account of cold.

Tue. 18th. Cloudy and a freeze and didn't thaw all day. Dud hauled wood from back of our field and Willie cut wood there today. I sat in house most of day.

Wed. 19th. Cloudy and a freeze in morn but turned warmer today from E. Dud hauled wood and Willie cut wood at back of our field today. Leah washed here in morn and Willie got the wood. I sat in house most of day sick.

Thu. 20th. Cloudy some all day but warmer than yesterday. Willie and Dud cut and hauled some locust posts from our field to build a garden near cowpen today. I sat in house most of day sick.

Fri. 21st. Cloudy and a damp wind from S W most of day and began to rain and thunder at 12 and lasted most of eve and a big one blew up from N W at 5 in eve and we had a very heavy rain then and it lasted till midnight. Willie and Dud set posts for new garden today. I was sick in house today.

Sat. 22nd. Bright and calm today. Willie hunted cattle today. I was in bed all day suffering with my side and Dr. Magruder came out to see me at dark and relieved me very much.

Sun. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, and pleasant. The fever left me last night and I felt better today but in bed all day.

Mon. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and pleasant. Willie and Dud worked on new garden today. Dud rode Sandy to Laurel Hill late in eve and got a bottle of whiskey for me. I was in bed all day.
