JANUARY 1892

Fri. Jan. 1st. It showered some last night from S and we had a hard rain and wind from NW at 7 to 8 in morn and clear and cool after 9 all day from NW. May Miller and Grace Chambers drove Larry to our buggy and Willie rode Salome to John Miller's at 1 1/4 - they started from here. Pa at Clara's most of day.

Sat. 2nd. Clear, frost and ice in morn, and a cold NW wind all day. Pa and I hauled 4 cart loads of wood from our calf pasture with Hattie by 11 1/2 in morn. Dan here most of day. Willie and Dixie and Miss Grace Chambers came home from John Miller's at 12 1/4. Pa and I hunted old Kate cow in Sims' field late in eve.

Sun. 3rd. Clear, a freeze in morn, but warmer in eve. All of us home in morn. Mr. Haines dined here and Miss Grace Chambers here since yesterday. Willie walked to Clara's in eve and Nellie and Dixie and Rena and Grace Chambers walked to Lewis' late in eve and came back at 7 1/4.

Mon. 4th. Bright and pleasant from SW but wind high in eve. I drove Hattie to buggy and carried Miss Grace Chambers home in morn and I ricked sugar cane all eve in new ground. Pa and Willie cleared most of day in SW corner of our field.

Tue. 5th. Bright and pleasant from SW. I ricked cane all morn in new ground and Nellie and I drove Hattie to town in eve and got some things and returned at sunset. Pa and Willie cleared most of day in SW corner of our field.

Wed. 6th. Bright and a cold high NW wind all day. I ricked and covered cane all morn in new ground. Pa and Willie cleared all day in SW corner of our field. Nellie and Rena drove Hattie to Primm's in eve and got back at dusk.

Thu. 7th. Cold, a hard freeze in morn but cloudy and warmer from SE in eve. Willie and I walked to Lewis' early in morn and got our pig there and brought it home and I cleaned it by 11. Pa and Willie cleared most of day in SW corner of our field. I put fodder on some cane in new ground in eve and set out 4 peach trees (in new ground).

Fri. 8th. Cloudy and chilly from SE and began to rain in slow showers at 8 1/2 in morn and lasted all day and most of night and hard at night. We didn't work much on account of rain. Jim Boland hauled 1 1/2 loads of our cane to Lewis' to grind late in eve. Bud and Dan and Gussie here late in eve.

Sat. 9th. Cloudy and chilly and misted little fine rain from N all day. Pa and I cut and packed some beech wood from hollow between Spring gate and cow pen and went to Lewis' to see about molasses and Willie and I went there again in eve and Seymour had finished cooking and we brought home our share in a 10 gal keg at 3 in eve.

Sun. 10th. Cloudy and chilly from N and began to drizzle rain in eve and lasted all night. Nellie and Willie walked to Clara's in morn and there all day. Dixie and Rena walked to Seymour's in eve.

Mon. 11th. Cloudy and chilly and drizzled rain all day from N or NE and rained good deal at night with some thunder from NE. We did nothing on account of rain but get wood.

Tue. 12th. Cloudy and rained all day from NE with some thunder and very chilly. We did nothing but feed and get wood.

Wed. 13th. Cloudy, and very cold, and sleeted or snowed some last night and dropped snow all today and very cold N wind. Willie and I cut down a large bay just by S cow pen gate and got some dry wood on top of it in morn.

Thu. 14th. Cloudy but bright and very cold from N and only thawed a little in sunshine in eve. Willie and I split up some beech wood between Spring gate and cow pen in morn and Willie went hunting in eve. I got some wood and walked in Sims' field to hunt Kate cow but didn't find her in eve.

Fri. 15th. Clear and a very hard freeze and only partly thawed in sun. Wind from NE. I drove Hattie to buggy to town at 9 to 2 1/2 and got some things for Clara and some for us. Clara and Gordon here in eve and got their things. I saw Nora in Sims' field in eve but didn't see her calf.

Sat. 16th. Bright and a hard freeze in morn but wind from SE and all thawed except in shade. Pa, Willie and I hauled 5 cart loads of wood from our calf pasture with Hattie in morn. Willie rode Hattie to Cohen's in eve. Seymour got a large rooster and 3 hens here late in eve. Bud here awhile in eve.

Sun. 17th. Bright but cloudy and a freeze in morn and warm from S in eve. Dan and Bud here all day. We had a birthday cake for Pa and Rena. Willie and I walked all over Sims' field early in morn hunting Nora with a calf but didn't find her. Dixie at Seymour's all day - Ida is in bed.

Mon. 18th. Cloudy and damp SE wind and began to rain late in eve and lasted most of night. I rode Hattie to Morgan's with Yellow Joe Johnson to look at cleared land at 10 in morn to 3 1/4 in eve. Pa and Willie cleared in SW corner of our field all day. Dixie and Rena and I got up Nora with a red heifer late in eve.

Tue. 19th. Cloudy and very cold and sleeted and snowed till 12 and every place covered with ice and snow in eve. We did nothing but get wood. Bud dined here and he and Willie went duck hunting in eve.

Wed. 20th. Bright and very cold and only thawed some in sunshine. Pa and Willie cleared in eve and I cut wood.

Thu. 21st. Bright in morn and a hard freeze and cloudy in eve and warmer and most of sleet and freezing thawed by night. I cut a large dead beech in calf pasture and cut up some wood there in morn and hauled 4 cart loads with Hattie in eve. Pa and Willie cleared most of day in SW corner of our field. I had dull headache all day and worse all night.

Fri. 22nd. Cloudy and warmer than yesterday and all thawed by night and rained some at night. Pa and Willie cleared till dinner and finished. I lay in bed all day and vomited and suffered with a headache. Mrs. M Morris came by here at 1 to 2 for Mattie's dress.

Sat. 23rd. Cloudy and cool from N in morn and bright in eve. Willie went hunting all day at Clara's. I picked up good deal of manure in morn. Pa and Nellie walked to Clara's in eve. I drove up Strawberry cow with a frosty heifer calf in eve from Indian field.

Sun. 24th. Clear and a freeze and white frost in morn and a beautiful and pleasant day. Pa and Gordon and Nat went to Alice's in morn and there till evening. Dixie and Rena rode horseback to Wesley Chambers at Graves' place in eve. I walked to Clara's in eve and Nellie to Seymour's.

Mon. 25th. Clear and a good deal frost in morn - wind from NW - and a beautiful day. Pa, Willie and I cut down some logs and rafters in back of our field and cut down a white oak toward Coon place for board for a cotton house in morn and Pa and Willie cut some of board cuts in eve. Harry Miller and Gussie dined here.

Tue. 26th. Bright and pleasant. Pa and Willie cut and split board timber toward Coon place all day. I drove Hattie to Cohen's and on to town to buggy and got some things and returned by 2 1/2.

Wed. 27th. Clear, frost in morn, and beautiful dry weather. Willie and I were at Estina most of day helping to repair house. Dan and Bud came home with us to dinner. Clara and her 3 children here today.

Thu. 28th. Clear and a freeze and white frost in morn and a beautiful and pleasant day. Willie and I went to Lewis' or below there and all of boys came and we got out boards all day for Estina house. We dined in field. Pa brought our dinner.

Fri. 29th. Bright, a light freeze in morn, and a beautiful day. All of us worked below Lewis' all day. We finished getting out boards and covered part of house. We ate dinner at Estina house.

Sat. 30th. Bright and little frost in morn and a beautiful dry day. I drove Hattie to cart to Cohen's in morn and got some things and returned at 12 and Bud and Dan dined here and all of us worked on and finished covering Estina house late in eve.

Sun. 31st. Bright, cool and dry. I hunted old Hattie and colt in field most of morn but didn't find them (they came up late in eve) and Bud here hunting Dick and Net and they came up through cow pasture in eve. Bud and Mr. Mabry Morris dined here. Pa at Clara's all day. Willie took Dick and Net home at sunset and Dixie and Rena and I drove up Cherry with a red heifer calf at dusk.
