FEBRUARY 1920
Sun. Feb. 1st. Bright and pleasant. Willie drove the mules and carried Carmel to Ford's today and returned after dark. I hunted hens' nests in morn but found none and got wood and water and fed everything in eve.
Mon. 2nd. Dud and Wiley hauled manure from cow pen and put in piles in patch E of here all day. I brought a s'k of pine straw from field and made some hens' nests in morn. Willie helped Dud and Wiley some in morn and he and Minnie hung up meat in eve. Mattie James and Lucile came in morn.
Tue. 3rd. Cloudy and misted and dropped rain some early in morn and bright and cool from N in eve. Dud and Wiley hauled manure as on yesterday and finished at 3 in eve and hauled 2 loads of pine and some water from Wiley's late in eve. Willie and I put up some wire at back of old cotton house early in morn and I hoed strawberries in new garden.
Wed. 4th. Bright and cool from N. Dud and Wiley began and broke ground on H ridge today. I hoed and set out onions in new garden in morn and watered them in eve and got wood and water and helped Willie to feed stock.
Thu. 5th. Bright and cool from N and getting dry. Dud and Wiley broke ground today and Willie cleaned off ground. I hoed and set out onions in new garden in morn and watered them in eve.
Fri. 6th. Bright and cool. Dud and Wiley broke ground today and Willie cleaned off ground. I set out and finished onions in new garden and planted some mustard in morn. Lucile drove their mare and buggy to Mrs. James' buggy in eve and Nellie went with her to Wiley's.
Sat. 7th. Bright and cool from N. Dud and Wiley broke ground in morn and Willie cleaned off ground and he drove Buck to town in eve. I planted some turnips and lettuce and radishes and beets and onions in new garden in morn.
Sun. 8th. Bright and a little frost in morn but a pleasant day. All home all day except Nellie - she is at Wiley's. Gordon dined here. McCoy brought Lucile in his car late in eve.
Mon. 9th. Bright but cloudy some and warmer from S. Dud and Wiley broke ground today and Wiley plowed Joe colt some with Mike mule - first time that he has had a bridle on. I hoed up ground in new garden to bed potatoes in morn.
Tue. 10th. Cloudy and sprinkled rain some at 12 and we had a good rain from NW at 4 in eve with no wind and very little thunder and was much needed too. Wiley and Dud broke ground till rain at 4. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 11 1/2. I bedded 2 rows of yams in new garden in morn.
Wed. 11th. Cloudy and cool from NW all day and rained a good deal in night with some thunder. Dud and Wiley broke ground all day and Willie cleaned off ground. I bedded 2 more rows of yams in new garden in morn making 4 rows bedded.
Thu. 12th. It rained good deal last night and all today from NE in morn and NE in eve and cold too - a big fall of water in all. We did nothing but get wood and feed.
Fri. 13th. Bright and cool. Willie and I patched old garden pickets on N side in morn and Willie cleaned off ground in eve. Bro Dawson here awhile late in eve.
Sat. 14th. Cloudy early in morn and wind blew up from NW at 10 in morn and sprinkled rain a little and bright and cold from N in eve. Willie drove Sandy to town early in morn and returned in eve. I patched up pickets on S side of old garden till 10 in morn and patched a pair of pants by 12 .
Sun. 15th. Bright and a freeze and white frost in morn but pleasant in sun after 10 in morn. All except Nellie and Mattie and I went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there. Nellie came home on yesterday eve. Lewis D brought her from town.
Mon. 16th. Bright but cloudy some and frost in morn and cold all day. Dud and Wiley broke ground today. Willie cleaned off ground in eve. I patched up pickets on W side of old garden in morn.
Tue. 17th. Cloudy and chilly and rained some late in eve. Dud and Wiley broke ground today and in a slow rain late in eve. Willie plowed up both old and new gardens in morn and cleaned off ground in field in eve. I dug up ends of rows in old garden in morn.
Wed. 18th. It began to rain slowly from N at 8 in morn and lasted most of morn and bright in eve but cold. Willie and Dud and Wiley killed and cleaned and cut up the big red sow in morn and cleaned up ground in eve. I helped with the hog in morn.
Thu. 19th. Bright and frost in morn but wind from SW and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley broke ground and Willie cleaned off ground today. I dug up ground and fixed ground for Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.
Fri. 20th. Bright and windy from SW but pleasant today. Dud and Wiley broke ground today and Willie cleaned off ground. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and planted about 1/2 of them. Sat. 21st. Cloudy and warm and a damp SW wind but no rain. Dud and Wiley broke ground in morn and drove wagon to town in eve for meal. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and took Mattie and Lucile and Willie and Lucile came back at 3 in eve and Mattie went on home. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished at 11 3/4.
Sun. 22nd. Cloudy and warmer from SW and sprinkled rain a little at 5 in eve. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and I and returned just as rain began.
Mon. 23rd. Cloudy and looked like rain all day and sprinkled a little at dusk. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground today. Joe plowed Sandy and Daisie. I hoed over ground in new garden to plant peas in morn. Little Wiley came in morn and left in eve with some seed corn and potatoes.
Tue. 24th. We had a big rain at 8 to 9 in morn and rained in sprinkles till 9 1/2 and quit and cold and cloudy balance of day from N. I packed some manure from stables and put on strawberries in new garden early in morn and we did nothing most of day.
Wed. 25th. Cold and cloudy from N all day till late in eve and cleared off just before sunset and clear and cold all night. Willie cleaned off ground in patch E of here today. Dud and Wiley cleaned off ground in morn and they and Joe broke ground in eve. I packed some manure from stables in morn and put in new garden.
Thu. 26th. Bright but some clouds and a very white frost and hard freeze in morn and wind cold from N all day. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground today. I packed and cut up some stove wood in morn. Willie cleaned off ground today.
Fri. 27th. Bright and a white frost and freeze in morn but wind from SE and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground today and Willie cleaned off ground. I hoed in new garden in morn.
Sat. 28th. Cloudy and a chilly wind from SE all day and sprinkled rain some in morn and in eve too and rained good deal in night and turned very cold from N. Dud and Wiley and Joe broke ground in morn and Willie drove Buck to town in eve. I planted 4 rows of peas in garden (new) in morn and got wood and fed all of stock in eve.
Sun. 29th. It rained good deal last night and changed to N and very cold wind from N all day but not quite cold enough to freeze but a very hard frost and freeze at night. All home all day.
