FEBRUARY 1919

Sat. Feb. 1st. Cloudy and warmer and a damp breeze from S all day and rained a little in night. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to school in morn and Buddy came home with them in eve (early). I hoed up ground around Kiefer pear tree by old garden and put 3 turns of manure around it in morn.

Sun. 2nd. Cloudy and rained a big shower in morn and misted rain some in eve and rained good deal through the night. Cap D and Ernest D ate supper here.

Mon. 3rd. Cloudy and no sun and misted rain some and a little cool from E of N. Dud got out timber to build himself a meat house and Wiley Woods helped him. Willie hunted hogs in morn. I put some manure around the Kiefer pear tree near old garden in morn and cut up some stove wood.

Tue. 4th. It rained all last night and most of this morn and most of eve too and cool. We did nothing in morn. Willie and Dud carried a load of peas to town in eve and came back just before night rain. Marion and Buddy and I fed stock in eve.

Wed. 5th. Cloudy and chilly from E of N. Willie and Wiley Woods carried a load of peas to town in morn and returned at 4 in eve. Dud got out timber for a meat house for himself today. I put manure around a pear tree in morn.

Thu. 6th. Cloudy and chilly till 10 in morn and bright and pleasant balance of day. Dud and Wiley Woods hauled in Dud's timber for a meat house in morn and put up the house in eve. Willie took down wire over at Wiley's today. I put some ashes around Kiefer pear tree and finished hoeing around it in morn.

Fri. 7th. A thundercloud came up from NW at daylight and rained a little shower here and bright and cool from NW after sunrise. Dud and Wiley Woods killed Dud's 2 hogs today. Willie took down wire over at Wiley's today. I was sick last night but better today and I found 3 hens' nests near Hannah's old house in morn - one of the hens setting - and I set the eggs under a hen in a coop.

Sat. 8th. Bright in morn and a frost but wind from SE and cloudy all eve and blew up from NW at 8 1/2 in night and rained a hard shower and turned cold. Willie took down wire at Wiley's in morn. Charles and Carl and I got some pine straw in field in morn.

Sun. 9th. Bright but cloudy some and very chilly from N all day. All of us home all day.

Mon. 10th. Bright and a slight freeze in morn and ice in shade till evening but warmer and cloudy in eve late. Dud hauled locust posts from field to Wiley's mill to put up a new fence there in morn and hauled wood here from field in eve and finished. Willie and Wiley Woods set posts for new fence today. Wiley came at 12 today and carried his 2 colts home in eve.

Tue. 11th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods split and put up a new fence at Wiley's molasses mill today and finished it all but the gates. I planted some mustard in old garden today (in morn) and some June peach seed too.

Wed. 12th. Cloudy and a damp wind from SW and began to sprinkle rain at 3 in eve and lasted balance of eve and till midnight and we had pretty hard wind from NW and some thunder and good deal of rain for 1 hour and quit. Wiley Wood cleaned off ground in field and Willie and Dud put up the 2 big gates in calf pasture. I bedded 2 rows of yams in new garden in morn. We fed in rain late in eve.

Thu. 13th. Nearly clear but smoky from W and cool. Dud and Wiley Woods cleaned off ground and Willie took down wire on Wiley's field. I took down butter bean arbor and all of bean sticks in morn.

Fri. 14th. Bright, nearly clear, and a very cool and high wind from NW all day and night too. Willie and Dud moving wire and posts on Wiley's field in morn. Dud and Wiley Woods hauled out manure to field from cow pen in eve and broke tongue out of wagon at sunset. I bedded out 2 more rows of yams in new garden, making 4 rows in all, in morn.

Sat. 15th. Bright and a cold wind from NW all day. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I put some manure around a pecan tree NW of barn in morn.

Sun. 16th. Bright and frost in morn and a cold breeze from N. All except Nellie and Minnie and Charles and Carl and I went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there.

Mon. 17th. Cloudy and chilly and began to rain slowly just before day and lasted most of day and part of night. Wiley Woods cleaned up ground some in eve but rain stopped him. I cut up some stove wood in morn.

Tue. 18th. Bright and cool and no rain. Dud and Wiley Woods cleaned up ground. Willie worked all morn and made a new wagon tongue and put it in wagon in eve and got up his hogs and put 14 in pen late in eve to sell on tomorrow. I put some manure around a pecan tree and some coffee grounds around some apple trees out E of here in morn.

Wed. 19th. Bright early in morn and a damp and very cool wind from E after 9 in morn and began to rain slowly and lasted all night. Dud drove wagon and Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and carried 14 hogs and returned at 1 1/2 in eve and hauled out last of manure from cow pen in eve. I got wood for Mary to wash and planted a row of radishes and lettuce across new garden in morn.

Thu. 20th. It rained last night and from NW at daylight and quit at sunrise and bright and pleasant most of day. Willie hunted hogs most of day but didn't find them. I put some manure around 3 apple trees out E of here and hoed around them in morn.

Fri. 21st. Bright in morn and pleasant but cloudy all eve and a damp SE wind and began to rain in night and blew up from NW but didn't rain much. Willie hunted his hogs most of day and saw all of them. I planted 1 p'k of bought Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sat. 22nd. Bright, nearly clear, and windy from NW and pleasant. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to town in morn and returned late in eve. I planted some home raised Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Sun. 23rd. Clear and pretty cool early in morn and a beautiful and pleasant day. None went to SS in eve. Cap D and West here awile in eve. Buddy brought Lucile late in eve.

Mon. 24th. Cloudy and a damp S wind all morn and began to rain in showers at 11 1/2 in morn and lasted all eve and hard part of time and till in night. Willie rode Sandy to Wiley's early in morn to help Wiley circle land and returned after dark in rain. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and fed horses and cattle in rain in eve.

Tue. 25th. It rained most of last night and most of day with thunder form NW and blew hard from N most of eve and turned cold before night. We did nothing but get wood and feed and milk.

Wed. 26th. Clear and a freeze in morn and wind cold from N most of day but pleasant in sun in eve. Willie and Dud and Wiley Woods built a hog pen at Wiley's in morn and got some of Wiley's hogs in pen in eve. I put some manure around an apple tree and made 2 blow guns for Charles and Carl in morn.

Thu. 27th. Clear and a freeze in morn and wind from S all day and warmer in eve. Dud and Wiley Wood worked on fence around Wiley's field today. Willie hunted Wiley's hogs all day but didn't find them. I put manure around a pear tree E of here and hoed around 2 pear trees there in morn.

Fri. 28th. Cloudy in morn and sprinkled rain some and turned off very cool from NW and bright in eve. Dud and Wiley Woods worked on fence around Wiley's field today. Willie hunted balance of Wiley's hogs today and found them but didn't get them in pen. I planted Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.
