DECEMBER 1919

Mon. Dec. 1st. Bright and a chilly wind from E in morn but cloudy some and warmer in eve. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and engaged his hogs to Henly. Dud and Wiley sawed and cut wood for themselves today. I cut briars in hollow N of new garden in morn.

Tue. 2nd. Cloudy some all day and dropped rain a little just at daylight but soon quit. Wiley drove wagon and Willie drove Sandy to buggy to town in morn and carried 13 hogs and sold to Henly and returned at 2 in eve and hauled 3 loads of wood in eve. I cut briars out N of new garden in morn.

Wed. 3rd. Bright but cloudy some all day and very cool from NE. I cut briars by cow pen in morn. Dud and Wiley didn't work today.

Thu. 4th. Bright and a pleasant day after 9 in morn. I cut briars NW of cow pen in morn. B C came at 1 1/2 in eve and left at sunset.

Fri. 5th. Bright and warm and wind from S. I cut briars NW of cow pen in morn. Willie killed 3 squirrels and 3 partridges in back of field in eve.

Sat. 6th. Bright but cloudy some all day and warm from SW and sprinkled a little in eve and rained some in the night. Minnie and Lucile drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. Wiley drove the mules to wagon to town to mill in morn. I hoed strawberries and turnips and mustard and onions in new garden in morn. Wiley and Jack came in morn and left in eve with some fruit trees and flower bushes.

Sun. 7th. Cloudy and warm and began to rain late in morn in thunder showers from W and lasted all eve and all night - a very big fall of water in all. All home all day.

Mon. 8th. Cloudy all day and rained till late in eve from SW in thunder showers. Nellie and Minnie and Lucile and Charles and Carl walked to see the creek at sunset - it was very high. We did nothing but milk and feed and get wood.

Tue. 9th. Cloudy and began to rain from SW at 12 in the day and wind changed to NW at 2 1/2 in eve and blew from N balance of eve and all night and froze before day. I cut briars on W side of new garden most of morn.

Wed. 10th. Cloudy and a freeze in morn and didn't thaw all day and a cold wind from N and a bitter cold day. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn.

Thu. 11th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and a freeze in morn but warmer in eve and all thawed by middle of day. Willie and Wiley and Dud killed and cleaned and salted 5 hogs today. I helped them some.

Fri. 12th. Cloudy all day and a good deal warmer than yesterday. Willie put his meat in pickle in morn and hunted cattle in eve. I dug up briars NW of new garden in morn and cut up stove wood in eve.

Sat. 13th. Cloudy and rained in showers in eve and wind changed to NW at 3 in eve and blew very cold all night and rained most of night. Wiley drove wagon and carried some molasses in cans to town and Willie rode Sandy and Minnie and Lucile drove Buck to buggy to town too in morn and all returned late in eve. I cut up briars out NW of here in morn and got wood and water in eve.

Sun. 14th. Bright and a hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw in shade all day and wind cold from N all day. All home all day and Gordon dined here.

Mon. 15th. Bright and a very hard freeze in morn and wind cold from NE and didn't thaw in shade all day. I cut up some wood in morn and walked all over field in eve looking for pine. Willie and Dud and Wiley didn't work.

Tue. 16th. Nearly clear and a freeze and white frost in morn but pleasant in sun after 10 in morn. Willie and Dud and Wiley sawed and split wood today. Nellie and Minnie drove Buck to town in morn and returned at 4 1/2 in eve. I stayed about the house today.

Wed. 17th. Bright and warmer today. Willie and Dud and Wiley sawed and split wood today. I dug up briars out NW of here in morn and got wood and fed in eve.

Thu. 18th. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and rained in night. Willie and Wiley hauled wood today. I dug up briars out N of here in morn. Marion came home in a car at 1 1/2 in eve.

Fri. 19th. It rained last night and misted rain all today. Willie was to go to Ford's for Carmel but it was too wet. Lucile didn't teach today. We did nothing but get wood and feed and milk.

Sat. 20th. It misted rain all day and a cold wind from N all day but not cold enough to freeze. Willie drove Sandy and Buck to Ford's for Carmel early in morn and they returned at dark. Carl and I chopped on a dead pine in field in morn but didn't quite chop it down. I got wood and water and fed in eve.

Sun. 21st. It misted and sprinkled rain all day and cold from N. All of us home all day.

Mon. 22nd. Clear and frost in morn - a beautiful and pleasant day. Carmel and Marion and Charles and Carl drove Buck and Sandy to town early in morn and returned late in eve. Willie and I got wood for Mary to wash and cut down the pine which I chopped on last Saturday and walked out in Luckey field hunting pine in morn.

Tue. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, and frost in morn and a pleasant day. Willie drove Buck and Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I chopped pine in field in morn and got wood and fed in eve.

Wed. 24th. Bright and frost in morn and cloudy late in eve and at night. Willie and Marion drove Buck and Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. Wiley drove the mules to wagon to town in morn. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Thu. 25th. Cloudy and chilly from NE all morn and clear late in eve and cold. Gordon dined here today. I didn't work any today.

Fri. 26th. Cloudy and foggy and cold in morn and cleared off late in eve and cold at night. Willie and I chopped some pine in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Wiley's in morn.

Sat. 27th. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from W and cold at night. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I chopped pine in field in morn. Mr. Middleton and Mr. Arthur came at sunset in a car and left in one hour after they came.

Sun. 28th. Nearly clear and frost in morn and a cold wind from NW all day but pleasant in sunshine. Carmel and Marion returned from Wiley's in eve and Buddy came with them. Willie and Minnie and Charles and Carl went to SS in eve.

Mon. 29th. Clear and a white frost and freeze in morn but wind from SW and warmer in eve. Willie went in a car with Middleton and Arthur to Surgett's and Stockett's in morn and returned in eve. Nellie and Carmel drove Buck to town in morn. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Tue. 30th. Bright, nearly clear, and warmer from SW. Willie and I chopped pine in field in morn. Minnie and Carl and Marion drove Buck to Wiley's and Buddy rode Essy home in eve.

Wed. 31st. Warmer and cloudy and windy all day and rained a little in night. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned in eve. Dixie and her 2 little boys here today. I chopped pine in field in morn and suffered most of night with my left hand.
