DECEMBER 1918

Sun. Dec. 1st. Cloudy and chilly in morn and bright and very cool from NW in eve. Gordon dined here today and all went to SS in eve but Nellie and Carl and me. Mrs. James and Annabel came after dark. Lucile was not well.

Mon. 2nd. Clear and a very white frost and killing freeze in morn but a pleasant day. Willie fixed water gaps in morn and hunted cattle in eve. Dud rode Sandy to town in morn and paid his taxes. I hoed about 1/2 of winter onions on West side of new garden in morn.

Tue. 3rd. Bright, nearly clear, and a slight freeze in morn and warmer in eve. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in field today. I hoed 1/2 of onions on W side of new garden and finished them.

Wed. 4th. Bright, nearly clear, but a slight freeze in morn but a pleasant day. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in field today. I repaired outside cow pen gate and patched up wire fence beyond water gap in morn.

Thu. 5th. Bright and not quite cold enough for frost in morn and warmer in eve. We dug potatoes in patch E of here in morn. Dud plowed them up and Willie and I picked them up in morn and Willie and Dud finished them and hauled all in one load in eve and we got some of hogs out of field and put them in cow pasture late in eve.

Fri. 6th. Foggy and wet and very cool early in morn but warm and pleasant after 10 in morn. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood today in field. I patched up big gate to cow pen in morn. We got some of hogs out of field late in eve.

Sat. 7th. Foggy and wet early in morn and bright and pleasant from SW after 9 1/2 in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. I fixed gate between cow pen and calf pasture in morn. We tried to get some of hogs out of field late in eve but could not. Bernice and Lucile came at 12 and here all night.

Sun. 8th. Bright and warm from SW. Bernice and Annabel left in eve. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me.

Mon. 9th. Warm and cloudy all day and sprinkled rain late in eve. Willie rode Sandy to hunt cattle in morn. Dud drove wagon to town in morn and returned in eve and brought 10 bus oats which Willie bought from Pierce. I piled some pine in field in morn.

Tue. 10th. Foggy and wet and sprinkled rain early in morn and bright and warm after 10 in morn. Willie and Dud planted oats in Gate cut patch today. I piled pine in field in morn.

Wed. 11th. Foggy and wet early in morn and bright and warm after 10 in morn. Willie and Dud planted oats in Gate cut patch today. I piled pine in field in morn. Cap Donnelly here most of day.

Thu. 12th. Warm and cloudy from S but no rain. Dud plowed under oats all day in Gate cut. Willie sowed oats in morn and patched hog pen at cow pen. I piled pine in field in morn and Willie and I put 16 hogs in pen to sell late in eve.

Fri. 13th. Warm and cloudy in morn and began to rain in showers from SW at 11 1/2 in morn and blew up from NW at 12 and we had a big rain with some thunder from NW till 3 1/2 and quit till after sunset and rained some slowly in night. Dud drove our wagon and Sam Woods came with his wagon and carried 16 hogs to town and Willie rode Sandy and sold the hogs at 12 cts. on foot. Dud returned at 4 and Willie at dusk. I picked some red pepper in old garden in morn and shelled some bean seed.

Sat. 14th. Cloudy and a cold wind form NW. Nellie and Charles and Carl drove Buck and Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. Dud hauled some wood for himself and rode one of mules to mill in morn. I piled pine in field in morn.

Sun. 15th. Clear and a cold wind from NW and a freeze at night. Carmel and Lucile spent day at Lewis'. Bro Dawson preached at SS in eve and all but Nellie and Carl and me went.

Mon. 16th. Bright, nearly clear, and a frost and freeze in morn -but didn't seem to kill vegetation - and warmer in eve and cloudy some. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in field today. I piled pine in field in morn.

Tue. 17th. Cloudy some all day but bright and pleasant in sun. Dud hauled wood all day from field. Willie rode Sandy on creek hunting cattle in morn and cut wood in field in eve. I piled pine in field in morn.

Wed. 18th. Bright but cloudy some all day. Dud hauled wood all day from field. Willie cut wood in field in morn. I piled pine in field in morn. Wiley came on wagon in morn and carried some of his things back with him in eve late.

Thu. 19th. Cloudy and a damp chilly wind from E and began to rain slowly at 9 1/2 in morn and lasted all day and till in night. Willie and Dud and Babers and Joe threshed Wiley's peas in house today. I shelled some dry beans in morn and finished them and got wood in rain in eve.

Fri. 20th. Cloudy and a damp and very cool breeze from SE all day and rained some in night. Willie and Dud killed and dressed and cut up the black pig in pen in morn. I hauled some walnuts in morn.

Sat. 21st. It rained last night and till 12 today from SE and cloudy all eve. We did nothing but get wood and feed and milk. Marion rode Buck to Middleton's in eve to get some coffee.

Sun. 22nd. Bright, nearly clear, and cool from NE. All went to SS in eve but Nellie and me.

Mon. 23rd. Cloudy and cool and began to rain at 2 in eve and got harder and poured down at 3 1/2 - a big washing rain - and changed to NW and quit at 4 1/2. Willie and Minnie and Lucile went to town in morn and Willie and Minnie returned at 3 1/2 in rain and Clara and Tigner and little Vivian Hammack came with them.

Tue. 24th. Bright but cloudy some all day and a cold wind from NW. Clara and Tigner and the little girl left at 10 in morn for Bro Tom's. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Wiley's in eve. We did nothing but get wood and feed and milk today.

Wed. 25th. Cloudy and very chilly from N all day but sun shined some in eve and clear and very cold all night. Clara and Gordon and little Vivian came back from Bro Tom's in morn and dined here. Henderson Donnelly and Ruby C here in eve. Clara and Vivian went to Lewis' late in eve to stay all night.

Thu. 26th. Clear and a very white frost and killing freeze in morn but a little warmer and cloudy in eve. Nellie and Charles and Carl and Clara and little Vivian walked to Dixie's in morn and returned late in eve and West and Tigner and Steve and Ernest and Henderson and William Wilkinson and Martin here till 10 in night.

Fri. 27th. Cloudy and ice in shade all day and chilly from N. Leah washed today and Willie and I got wood for her. Clara and Tigner and little Vivian left early in morn to go to Wiley's.

Sat. 28th. Bright and a freeze in morn and wind cold from N but pleasant in sun after 10 in morn. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn and returned in eve. Dixie and Lee and J.K. here. I patched up pants today. We looked for Carmel and Marion to return from Wiley's today but they didn't.

Sun. 29th. Cloudy and chilly from SE and rained a sprinkle in night. Gordon here in eve. None went to SS in eve. Lucile and Carmel and Marion came at dusk.

Mon. 30th. Cloudy and a damp S breeze all day and sprinkled rain a little late in eve and rained a little shower in night. Dud moved Wiley Woods' folks and Leah and her children into Wiley's house by 2 in eve and hauled some wood for himself late in eve. Willie rode Sandy to Ogden's in morn. I cut up good deal of wood in morn.

Tue. 31st. Warm and cloudy and a damp S wind all day and dropped and sprinkled rain some and some through night. Willie rode Sandy and Dud drove wagon to Beau Ogden's in morn and they returned at 2 in eve and Ogden with them with 2 loads of corn. I packed manure and put around 2 pecan trees in morn.
