DECEMBER 1917

Sat. Dec. 1st. Bright and pleasant from SW. Willie rode Daisy to town in morn. Sessions Roland came early in morn and went hunting with Marion and other boys. Bernice and Jennie Cage dined here. I gathered pecans in morn and carried 1/2 bu to Wiley's in eve.

Sun. 2nd. Foggy and wet early in morn and bright and pleasant from SW after 9 in morn. Willie and Minnie drove Daisy to Jim Fugler's in eve to see Dan Fugler. Carmel and Marion and Charles walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 3rd. Foggy and wet early in morn and bright and pleasant from SW balance of day. Willie hunted cattle most of day. Dud didn't work. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Tue. 4th. Warm and cloudy some all day and rained a hard shower from NW at 4 to 5 in night with some thunder. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood at back of field today. I chopped pine in field in morn and Carl and I picked up some pecans in eve.

Wed. 5th. We had a rain at 4 to 5 in morn and cloudy and cool all day and rained a little in night again. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in back of field today. I chopped pine in field in morn and picked up some pecans in eve.

Thu. 6th. Clear and cool from N. Willie and Dud sawed and split wood in back of field today. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Fri. 7th. Frost in morn - a little windy from SE and chilly and clouded up in morn and began to rain in showers after sunset and we had a hard rain from NW at 9 in night with wind and thunder and turned cold. Willie and Dud split wood in back of field in morn and didn't work in eve. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Sat. 8th. Very cold, a freeze in morn and ice in shade all day, and wind cold from W of N all day and clear after 10 in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and carried some fig trees to McGehee and Sims. I picked up a p'k of pecans today - blown down by the wind last night.

Sun. 9th. Clear and a very hard freeze in morn and wind from S all day but didn't thaw in shade all day and cloudy some all night. Willie and Minnie drove Buck to Dan Fugler's burying in eve.

Mon. 10th. Cloudy and a hard freeze and wind chilly from E all day and rained and sleeted some in night. I got up mules from field early after breakfast and Dud hauled wood all day from back of field. Willie rode Sandy to see Preston Veal in morn. I picked up pecans in morn.

Tue. 11th. Cloudy and cold and a freeze in morn and rained in little sprinkles most of morn and hard at 11 1/2 to 12 1/2 and some slowly late in eve and at night and still very cold. Dud hauled wood all morn from back of field and got nearly wet. I chopped pine till 10 in morn and rain stopped me.

Wed. 12th. Cloudy and no sun and a freeze in morn and ice all day and very cold and chilly. Willie and Dud killed and cleaned and cut up a young sow at 10 to 12 in morn and Willie drove up a young red cow with a white-faced bull calf in eve. I sat in house most of day.

Thu. 13th. Cloudy and a freeze and cold wind from W of N all day but sun shined some in eve but no warmer. We did nothing but get wood and feed. Carmel didn't go to school - suffering with her jaw.

Fri. 14th. A hard freeze in morn and cloudy all morn and clear in eve and at night and ice in shade all day. I got wood for Leah to wash in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve. Carmel didn't go to school today - still suffering with her jaw.

Sat. 15th. Cloudy and a hard freeze in morn but wind from E and bright after 10 in morn and warmer and clouded up in eve and rained a good deal through the night. Willie and Charles and Carl drove Buck to town in morn and returned late in eve. I picked up some pecans today.

Sun. 16th. Cloudy and very cool from E and sprinkled rain a little in eve and rained some in night. Lanehart and wife here in morn awhile and Willie and Minnie and Carmel drove Buck to Lanehart's in eve. Nellie at Wiley's all day.

Mon. 17th. Cloudy and very cool and began to rain in showers from E at 11 in morn and lasted most of eve and some at night. Willie rode Daisy to see cattle in morn. I chopped pine in morn.

Tue. 18th. Bright and cool in morn and very cloudy all eve and dropped rain a little. Willie and I went to election for Sheriff in eve. Willie rode Daisy and I rode Sandy.

Wed. 19th. Bright and pleasant from E. Willie and Minnie drove Daisy to town in morn and returned in eve. I ripped a long lath for making a chicken coop in morn and shucked some bread corn in eve.

Thu. 20th. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie shelled some bread corn in morn and I chopped pine in field. Willie got up his hogs from Elmwood in eve and we put 10 in pen for meat.

Fri. 21st. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie fixed shed and around it in hog pen in morn. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Sat. 22nd. Bright and pleasant from SE. Willie drove Buck to town in morn and returned late in eve with meal. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Sun. 23rd. Bright, but cloudy some, and pleasant but a damp breeze from S. Willie and I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion and Charles went to SS in eve. Nora and Carmel rode on horseback over the creek to get members for Red Cross in morn.

Mon. 24th. Warm and cloudy and dropped rain a little late in eve. Marion and Buddy drove Buck to town in morn and returned in eve. Willie hunted his hogs on Elmwood in morn. Nellie and Minnie cooked for Christmas today. I chopped pine in field in morn.

Tue. 25th. It rained before day in morn and till 8 in morn from W and bright from NW balance of day. Wiley and family, all but Bernice, dined here and Gordon too.

Wed. 26th. Cloudy and very chilly from N all day and no sun. Willie hunted and found all of his hogs on Elmwood in morn. I was chilly all day and sat in house most of morn and shucked corn and got wood and fed in eve.

Thu. 27th. Cloudy and chilly from NE. I got wood for Leah to wash early in morn and Willie and I made a coop to market chickens in morn and Willie went hunting with West in eve. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Mrs. James' in morn.

Fri. 28th. Cloudy and chilly from N. Willie rode Daisy and Dud drove wagon to town in morn and carried some grown chickens and returned in eve. I got wood and water in morn and again in eve and fed.

Sat. 29th. Cloudy and very cold and windy from N and freezing all day and very cold and clear all night. Dud got up the mules from field and hauled 3 loads of wood for himself early in morn. Willie and Marion sawed some wood in morn. I sat in house most of day.

Sun. 30th. Clear and very hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw much all day and very cold at night again. Carmel and Nellie went to Wiley's in eve. Bernice got home from her trip to Lexington. Marion walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 31st. Clear and a very hard freeze in morn and didn't thaw any in shade all day, wind still from N. Marion and Willie sawed some wood early in morn. I cut up good deal of stove wood early in morn and I shucked corn and got wood and fed in eve.
