DECEMBER 1913

Mon. Dec. 1st. Bright, nearly clear, and pleasant. Willie gathered moss today. I sawed a molasses bbl and made 2 tubs and picked up some Irish potatoes in patch E of here in morn and made a plank stool for Charles in eve.

Tue. 2nd. Bright but cloudy some all day and pleasant from SE. Willie gathered moss most of day and hauled all gathered in one wagon load late in eve. I set out and hoed winter onions in NW corner of garden in morn and made a feed box and nailed to a pecan tree near old barn in eve.

Wed. 3rd. Bright but cloudy some all day and a damp breeze from E. Willie put hand railing around gallery today. I hoed and picked grass out of strawberries on W side of garden in morn and made a stool in eve.

Thu. 4th. Bright but cloudy some all day and a damp breeze from SE. Willie cut briars in pasture today. I hoed and picked grass out of strawberries in morn and made a stool in eve.

Fri. 5th. Cloudy and a damp wind from S all day and a rain cloud came up from NW at dark and rained till late in night without thunder. Willie cut briars in pasture in morn and white washed hand railing around gallery in eve. I hoed and picked grass out of strawberries in morn and cut vines and roots on W side of garden in eve.

Sat. 6th. Bright and cool from W. Willie and Marion and Lewis' boys went squirrel hunting in morn and he rode Sandy to town in eve. I cut hedge briars in lot around house in morn and got wood and water and fed and milked in eve.

Sun. 7th. Bright and very cool from NW. I walked to Wiley's at 1 to 2 1/2 in eve and carried some pecans. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve and Rena and John here awhile in eve.

Mon. 8th. Bright, nearly clear, and a slight freeze in morn and a cold breeze from N all day. Willie cut briars in pasture today. I cut up hedge briars near old cow pen in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water in eve.

Tue. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and a hard killing freeze in morn and ice most of day in shade. Willie cut briars in cow pasture today and I cut hedge briars in calf pasture in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Wed. 10th. Bright and a slight freeze in morn. Willie cut briars in cow pasture in morn and went hunting in eve. I cut briars and bushes in calf pasture in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Thu. 11th. Bright and frost in morn and warmer in eve. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve. I cut briars and bushes in calf pasture in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Fri. 12th. Bright, and nearly cold enough for frost in morn, but warmer in eve and damp from S. Willie cut briars in pasture in morn and rode Sandy in eve and saw Cap D about some money owing Willie. I cut briars and bushes in calf pasture in morn.

Sat. 13th. Cloudy and a damp breeze from S and sprinkled rain a little at 9 1/2 in morn and rained a shower at 12 1/2 and began to rain slowly at dark and lasted most of night with some thunder. Willie and Marion and Lewis' boys went hunting in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. I cut briars and bushes in calf pasture in morn and patched floor in kitchen at 12 to 1 1/2 in eve. Wiley and family went in Surry to town in morn.

Sun. 14th. Cloudy and cool from NW. It rained in showers till 9 in morn. Nellie rode Josie to Lewis' in morn and returned late in eve. Carmel and Marion at Wiley's most of day.

Mon. 15th. Cloudy and very cool from E of N all day and very little sunshine. Willie and I cut bushes and briars in calf pasture in morn and Willie in eve too. I shucked and shelled some bread corn in eve and got wood and water and fed.

Tue. 16th. Bright and very cool early in morn but cloudy and warmer in eve. Willie and I killed and dressed a white barrow and Willie cut it up and salted it in morn. Willie rode Sandy in eve to see Jonas Minor about buying peas and I shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Wed. 17th. Cloudy some all day and cool from NW. Willie cut briars and bushes in calf pasture today. I shelled some bread corn in morn and cut up good deal of wood and I shucked corn in eve and got wood and water and fed. Mrs. Mathis here all night.

Thu. 18th. Bright but cloudy some all day and a cool breeze from NE. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and winnowed some bread corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Fri. 19th. Cloudy and foggy some in morn and bright and pleasant in eve. Willie rode Sandy to McDonald's mill in morn and returned at 11 with 6 p'ks of meal. All went to SS in eve but me and observed K--------. Miss Mittie Fugler came back with them and stayed all night.

Sat. 20th. Bright but some cloud all day but pleasant. Willie and Minnie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned late in eve. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and Marion and I put Kittie's calf out of our field through wire fence into Lanehart's field to Kittie and went on and saw sawmill running in Elmwood pasture.

Sun. 21st. Bright and very cool from NE all day. Willie at Wiley's most of day. Willie and Minnie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 22nd. Cloudy and a damp wind from SE till 11 1/2 in morn and began to rain then from SW and changed to NW at 12 1/4 and we had a big washing one till 2 1/2 and slowly till 3 1/4 and quit. Willie and Nellie and Carmel and Marion and Bernice drove Wiley's team to Surry to town in morn and returned at 4 1/4 in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and shucked corn and fed in eve.

Tue. 23rd. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from N in morn and chilly but a beautiful and pleasant day after 10 in morn. Willie and Marion hunted our hogs and cattle in morn and in eve too and killed some squirrels too. I cut up hedge briars near old cow pen in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Wed. 24th. Bright and chilly in morn and a damp wind from SE and clouded up early in eve and began to rain slowly from SW late in eve with some thunder and changed to NW after dark and rained slowly from that way most of night and chilly too. Willie and Marion and Earl and Lanehart and Clarence and Wiley and Buddy were bird hunting till late in eve. I cut up wood for Leah to wash early in morn and cut up good deal of stove and house wood in morn and fed in eve.

Thu. 25th. Cloudy and no sun and sprinkled rain some from NW and very chilly all day. Wiley and family dined here today.

Fri. 26th. Bright, nearly clear, and ice in morn but a calm and pleasant day after 10 in morn. Willie and Lewis and his boys went bird hunting at 11 in morn and returned late in eve. Miss Cook C and 4 of Dixie's children here most of day. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Sat. 27th. Cloudy and a frost in morn and a chilly breeze from S of E all day. Willie and Marion drove the mules to wagon to town in morn and returned late in eve with a sack of salt and a bbl of flour. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve. Wiley and family went in Surry to Jack D's in morn. Mrs. Lanehart and little Sallie and Jessie dined here.

Sun. 28th. Cloudy all day and rained some last night and till 10 in morn and quit and chilly from NW balance of day. Wiley and family returned form his Pa's late in eve and Marion and I went to Wiley's late in eve and made a fire for him.

Mon. 29th. Cloudy and no rain and chilly from W of N all day. Wiley and Sam Woods and Dickie helped us to kill and clean up 4 large hogs today.

Tue. 30th. Dark and cloudy and no sun and chilly from W of N all day and dropped rain a little in eve late. We cooked our lard today and Willie salted down his meat. Dan dined here today.

Wed. 31st. A frost and ice early in morn and bright most of day but a breeze from SE in eve and warmer. Willie and Sam Woods and Dickie helped Wiley to clean and cut up 6 hogs today. I cut up wood and shucked corn and fed today. I suffered all day with hard breathing and coughing from a cold but was better at night.
