DECEMBER 1912

Sun. Dec. 1st. Cloudy all day and a damp breeze from S and dropped rain a little early in morn and rained in little showers late in eve from SW - enough to make ground a little muddy. I walked to Wiley's and back early in eve. Willie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 2nd. Cloudy all day and cool from N and rained slowly from N late in eve and some early in night. Willie hauled wood from NW of orchard most of day with the mules. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and shucked some corn and I moved the gate from W side of orchard and set it up by graveyard late in eve and Willie helped me with it.

Tue. 3rd. Cloudy all day and a damp breeze from S and thundered in W all eve and began to rain slowly at 4 1/4 in eve and we had a big rain with some thunder and wind from NW at 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 at night and slowly most of night - a big fall of water in all and needed very much. Willie cut wood out NW of orchard in morn and he and Lanehart and Chunk went bird hunting in eve. I cut good deal of wood in morn and picked up 1/2 peck of pecans in morn and eve too.

Wed. 4th. Cloudy, and misted rain most of morn and bright but cloudy some all eve. Willie broke his axhandle early in morn and put another in it before dinner and he and Marion went hunting in eve and killed 3 squirrels and 1 rabbit. I picked up pecans most of morn and got one peck which the wind blew down last night and I sawed a molasses bbl in eve and made 2 tubs.

Thu. 5th. We had a big rain from SW and NW too at 1 to 5 in night with some thunder and it quit at daylight and rained slowly at 7 to 9 1/2 in morn and quit again but cloudy all day. The children went to school at 10 1/2 in morn. Willie and Wiley and Chunk went bird hunting with B Chambers in eve. I picked up 1/2 peck of pecans today and fixed Spring and yard gate near chimney in eve.

Fri. 6th. Cloudy all day and began to rain slowly at 10 in morn and cool from N and lasted till 2 in eve and began to mist rain late in eve and lasted all night from N and very cool. Willie cut and split posts near turffield till 10 in morn and I got wood for Lucy to wash early in morn and picked up some pecans today and cut up good deal of wood.

Sat. 7th. It misted rain last night and till 9 in morn and chilly from N and bright in eve. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve and he and boys went bird hunting in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn early and picked up some pecans today.

Sun. 8th. Cloudy and chilly from N all day and rained some early in morn. Wiley and Bernice went to Jack D's in morn and Rena and children here most of day and Ben Ford and Edna here too.

Mon. 9th. Bright, nearly clear, and very cool from N all day. Willie cut wood in field today. I cut down a pine snag in pine hollow this morn and piled some pine there and I shucked some bread corn in eve.

Tue. 10th. Cloudy and a little frost in morn and no sun today and warmer in eve from SE. Willie and I killed 2 sows (Hannah and a white one) early in morn and Lucy helped us to clean them and Willie cut them up by 12 1/2 and salted the meat just after dinner and he and West and Earl went bird hunting in eve. I cut up some wood and shucked some bread corn and fed in eve.

Wed. 11th. It began to rain at 8 in morn from N and chilly too and lasted till 12 and misted some in eve and at night too and a cold wind from N all night. We didn't work on account of rain and no school today and didn't cook the lard on account of rain.

Thu. 12th. Cloudy and no sun today and chilly from NE and sleeted a little at 10 1/2 to 12 and rained a little in eve and at night and very chilly. Willie cut wood in field in morn and hunted our cattle in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and Nellie cooked the lard by old kitchen room by 1 1/2 in eve. Lewis dined here today.

Fri. 13th. Cloudy and chilly from NE all day. Willie cut wood in field today. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and shelled some bread corn and picked up some pecans in morn and shucked corn and took up manure and fed in eve.

Sat. 14th. Bright and frost in morn but cloudy all eve and warmer. Willie drove Sandy to buggy to town in morn and he and little boys went hunting in eve. I cut up good deal of wood early in morn and piled some pine in field by 12 and shucked corn and fed in eve.

Sun. 15th. Cloudy and chilly early in morn and very little sunshine today and clear all night. Willie and children went to SS in eve and Nellie and Charles went to Wiley's in eve.

Mon. 16th. Bright, but some clouds all day, and pleasant from S and rained a hard shower late in night. Willie cut wood in field today. I got wood for Lucy to wash here early in morn and cut up good deal of wood and fixed Lucy's hearth by 12 and shucked corn and shelled some bread corn in eve. Wiley and Rena and little Nellie and John went in Surry to town in morn and returned late in eve.

Tue. 17th. We had a hard shower from W at 5 to 6 1/4 in morn and bright and nearly clear and warm from SW all day. Willie cut wood in field in morn and he and Chunk and Earl and Lanehart went bird hunting in eve. I chopped and piled pine in Pine hollow in morn and shucked corn and shelled some bread corn in eve and fed and caught some young roosters to sell late in eve.

Wed. 18th. Bright, nearly clear, and a wind from NW all day and very cool too. Wiley carried a load of corn to town on yesterday and another today and I sent 7 young roosters by him and he sold them for $2.10 (at 10cts per lb.). Willie cut wood in field today. I chopped and piled pine in field in morn and shucked corn in eve and winnowed some bread corn too.

Thu. 19th. Clear in morn and a frost and slight freeze but warmer in eve from S and some clouds. Willie hauled wood all day from field. I chopped and piled pine in Pine hollow in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Fri. 20th. Cloudy all day but sun shined some and a damp breeze from SE. Willie rode Sandy to Ogden's mill in morn and returned with nearly 7 pecks of meal and he and Chunk and Earl went hunting in eve. I chopped and piled pine in Sims' bottom in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Sat. 21st. Dark, cloudy and began to rain slowly at 8 in morn and wind from NE and chilly and rained all day and night too and a big fall of cold water. We did nothing but get wood and feed.

Sun. 22nd. Dark cloudy and no sun and rained all last night and till 8 in morn and chilly all day and began to rain slowly late in eve from NE and lasted all night and a big fall of water with some wind and chilly too. Nellie and Carmel walked to Wiley's in morn and there till in eve. Chunk here most of day. Charles and I went to Wiley's and back in eve.

Mon. 23rd. It rained all last night from NE and E and till 9 in morn and changed to W of N and drizzled a little balance of day and cold from W of N. Wiley and Nellie and Bernice and Carmel went in Surry and Willie and Marion and little Wiley drove Sandy to buggy and all went to town at 10 1/2 in morn and returned before night. I cut up good deal of wood and shucked corn in morn and walked to Wiley's in eve and cut up some wood for Rena and fed in eve.

Tue. 24th. Bright, nearly clear, and a cold wind from N all morn and calm and pleasant in sun all eve. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve and brought Annabelle to stay till next Sat. I cut up wood early in morn and chopped and piled pine in Sims' bottom till 11 1/2. Willie and Chunk and Earl went hunting in eve and Marion too.

Wed. 25th. Bright and a frost and freeze in morn but calm and bright and pleasant after 10 in morn. Wiley and family dined here and we had a turkey dinner. Willie and boys went hunting in morn and in eve too. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and shucked corn in eve and fed.

Thu. 26th. Dark cloudy and began to rain slowly at 8 in morn and lasted till 10 and began again at 2 1/2 in eve and got harder at 4 and lasted till in night - a big rain in all and changed to W of N in the night. Willie walked and hunted our cattle at 10 in morn and returned at 2 1/2 in eve. I cut up wood in morn and shucked corn in eve and Willie and I fed in a rain late in eve.

Fri. 27th. Bright and a cold wind from W of N all day. Nellie and Carmel and Annabelle drove Nancy to our buggy to Dixie's in morn and returned in eve. Gordon dined here. Willie and I fixed up 2 stalls on W side of new barn (to feed horses in) in morn. Willie and Gordon skinned Kittie's calf at Lanehart's barn in eve. I cut up good deal of wood today.

Sat. 28th. Bright, nearly clear, most of day and a white frost and freeze in morn but a breeze from S and pleasant in sun after 10 in morn and clouded up from SW late in eve. Willie and Carmel drove Sandy to town in morn and carried Annabelle to town and Willie and Carmel returned at 3 in eve. I cut up good deal of wood in morn and shucked corn and got wood and water in eve and fed.

Sun. 29th. Dark cloudy and no sun and began to rain slowly early in morn and lasted most of morn and most of eve and till in the night and wind changed to W of N at 7 at night. I walked to Wiley's at 1 to 3 in eve and he brought Bernice home from Jack D's at 2 3/4 in eve. Willie and I fed in the rain late in eve.
