AUGUST 1918

Thu. Aug. 1st. Bright and warm till 2 1/2 in eve and thundered and rained around most of eve but none here. Willie and Marion worked on wagon in morn and put in a new rocking bolster and floor and finished it. I brought some tomatoes from field in morn. Wiley came from his new home in eve and ate supper here.

Fri. 2nd. Bright and warm most of day and no rain in sight. Wiley ate dinner and supper here. Miss Mittie Fugler and Sidney White came at 1 1/2 in eve and ate dinner here and left late in eve. I hoed late beans in new garden (where peas grew) in morn.

Sat. 3rd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie rode Daisie to hunt cattle in morn and rode her to town in eve. I hoed cucumbers and late beans on W side of new garden in morn. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Wiley's in eve.

Sun. 4th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and rained around some in thunder showers and sprinkled a little here. Willie and Minnie and Mattie James walked to SS in eve. Carmel and Marion returned from Wiley's in the night.

Mon. 5th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Dud picked cotton today (his first). Robert James and family and Mary LeSassier and children came in an auto in morn and Robert and family left late in eve and Mary and children stayed all night.

Tue. 6th. Cloudy and a thunder cloud came up at 11 in morn from S and we had a big soaking rain till 12 1/2 - which I think wet ground well - and cloudy all eve and sprinkled most of eve. Robert James and family and Luster came in auto at 9 in morn and carried Mary L and children to old man LeSassier's. Willie rode Daisie to Dr. Hewes in morn and returned at 12 soaking wet.

Wed. 7th. Bright and warm most of day and showers passed around from S most of day but only sprinkled a little here. I gathered some apple pears and brought some tomatoes from field in morn. Willie and Marion fixed water gaps early in morn. West came at 10 in morn and Wiley at 12 and here till late in eve.

Thu. 8th. Bright and warm all day and no rain but lightning in NW at night. Willie and Marion repaired wire fence near and around graveyard and shelled some breadcorn today. I hoed about 1/2 of Irish potatoes in old garden in morn - just a few of them are up.

Fri. 9th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Marion took Nellie and Charles to Wiley's new home in morn with Buck to buggy and returned in night and Buddy came with him. Willie and Carl picked cotton part of day. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them and brought some tomatoes from field and shelled some dry butter beans in eve.

Sat. 10th. Bright and very warm and no rain. Willie hoed grass out of slips in patch N of here and Dud ran cultivator in them and plowed them out in morn. Marion and Buddy drove our white faced bull from B C's and put in our pasture in morn. I hoed in slips in patch E of here in morn. Willie drove Buck to town to mill in eve.

Sun. 11th. Cloudy and a thunder cloud came up from SE at 2 1/2 in eve and we had a big washing rain till 5 1/2 and quit. Gordon dined here and left after rain quit. Buddy here today and at night again.

Mon. 12th. Cloudy and sprinkled rain some in morn and most of eve and no sun but didn't rain much all day. Willie and Marion fixed water gaps in morn but didn't work in eve. I took up and set all of strawberry plants in new garden on one row in morn.

Tue. 13th. Bright and warm till 2 1/2 in eve and rained in thunder showers in eve here and all the way to Wiley's new home. Robert James came in a car early in morn and carried me and Carl to Wiley's and carried Willie and Minnie and Carmel on to Mrs. James' and brought all of us back late in eve. Marion and Buddy kept house today.

Wed. 14th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Marion plowed and worked road through the field in morn. I hoed late beans in new garden and brought some tomatoes from field in morn. Willie drove Buck to town in eve and brought Sims out here. Wiley dined here and ate supper too.

Thu. 15th. Bright and very warm and no rain. Willie rode Buck and got Hannah and children to pick cotton in morn. Sims and Wiley dined and ate supper here. I was very feverish and sick most of day.

Fri. 16th. Bright and very warm and no rain near. Hannah and children picked cotton today and Dud and Sophie in theirs. Willie picked some too. I brought some tomatoes from field in morn and was unwell today. Marion and Charles came home from Wiley's at 9 1/2 at night and Nellie didn't come. Sims and Wiley ate supper here today.

Sat. 17th. Bright and very warm till late in eve and a thunder cloud came up from E and sprinkled a little here at dark. Willie and hands picked cotton in morn and Dud hauled in cotton at 12. I brought some tomatoes from patch and hoed some Irish potatoes in garden in morn by 10. Willie drove Buck to town in eve.

Sun. 18th. Bright and very warm and no rain near today. Buddy brought Nellie home in morn from Wiley's with Hal. Willie and Minnie and Marion and Charles went to SS in eve. Gordon and West and Tigner Donnelly here in eve awhile and Sims here too.

Mon. 19th. Bright and very warm till 3 1/2 in eve and we had a big washing rain at 4 to 6 in eve with thunder. Willie and Charles and Carl picked cotton in morn and till rain in eve. Marion drove Buck and carried Sims to town in morn. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn.

Tue. 20th. Bright in morn and began to rain at 1 1/2 in eve and lasted till dark with some thunder and wind from SE and a big washing rain. Willie and I drove Buck to Turnbull's to election in morn and returned at 12 1/2 and we got out some bread corn in eve.

Wed. 21st. It rained slowly at 6 to 7 1/2 in morn and began again at 1 in eve and lasted till late in eve - a big rain in all with some thunder. Willie and Marion worked on water gaps in morn. I patched old garden pickets at NE corner in morn and brought some tomatoes from field.

Thu. 22nd. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and rained around some but only dropped a little late in eve. I got wood for Leah to wash early in morn and hoed Irish potatoes in old garden but it was very wet. Willie and Marion scraped Irish potatoes in Wiley's field in eve.

Fri. 23rd. Cloudy some all day but bright and warm and no rain in sight and ground dried some today. Willie and Marion and Wiley and Dud scraped Irish potatoes in Wiley's field today. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and brought some tomatoes from field. Minnie drove Buck to town in morn and brought Carmel home in eve late.

Sat. 24th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie plowed Irish potatoes in field in morn and drove Buck to town in eve and returned at dark with meal. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn and finished them.

Sun. 25th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Bro Tom and his 2 little girls dined here today. Willie and Minnie and Carmel and Marion went to SS in eve and Bro Dawson preached there. Carmel and Marion drove Buck to Christian church at night.

Mon. 26th. Bright and very warm till 3 in eve and clouded up then and a big thunder cloud passed around SE from S and very near but didn't rain here. Willie plowed up part of new garden early in morn with Julia mule and I planted 2 papers of turnips and 2 of kale there and Willie and Marion picked cotton balance of day.

Tue. 27th. Cloudy and began to rain slowly at daylight and lasted till 10 1/2 in morn and quit and cloudy some all eve. Marion rode Buck to town in morn and Willie walked on creek to see cattle. I found 2 hens' nests in eve. Mr. Middleton and wife and 2 little children here in eve and I gave them some pears.

Wed. 28th. Bright and warm but rained a sprinkle at 9 1/2 in morn from S and very bright all eve and warm. Willie and Marion picked cotton most of day. I hoed Irish potatoes in old garden in morn. Nellie and Carmel drove Buck to Dixie's in eve and I gathered a bu of pears for them to take.

Thu. 29th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Marion and some hands picked cotton today and hauled it late in eve. I planted turnips in new garden in morn and finished them.

Fri. 30th. Bright and very warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Marion and hands picked cotton today and didn't haul it in eve. I planted some mustard in new garden and hoed cucumbers and arbor of late pole beans on West side of garden in mo
