AUGUST 1915

Sun. Aug. 1st. Bright and very warm and no rain near today. Charles and I walked to Wiley's and back in morn and carried some apple pears there. Willie and Minnie and children (all but Carl) went to SS in eve. Rena and John here in eve.

Mon. 2nd. Bright and warm and no rain in sight but lightning in N at night. Willie and Dud cut briars in pasture today. I hoed beans and tomatoes in garden early in morn and eggplant and pepper in field and brought home a big bucket of tomatoes.

Tue. 3rd. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and a thunder cloud passed around S from SW but no rain here. Willie rode Maud Est and I Sandy to Turnbull's to a primary meeting in morn and returned at 11 1/2. I drew water for washing in eve and bucket fell back into well, but I put an old one on and drew with it. Henderson D came for Nellie on yesterday morn. Hattie is very sick and Willie rode Sandy there this eve and she is still very sick.

Wed. 4th. Bright and cooler today and no rain in sight. Dud sick and didn't work. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn to hear from election and he rode to Bro Tom's in eve and came back at 2 in night. Hattie died late in eve. I got wood and water for washing early in morn and planted some Irish potatoes in cucumber patch in morn. Seymour and little Dixie and Thelma came late in eve and Thelma went to Lewis' and Seymour staid here all night.

Thu. 5th. Bright and warm and very dry and no rain in sight. Dud still sick. Willie rode Sandy to town in morn to get Bro Ellis to bury Hattie and Seymour went to Tom's in morn and Willie rode Sandy and Bernice and Carmel drove Hal and Wiley rode Essie to burying in eve and returned before sunset. I planted some more potatoes (Irish) in cucumber patch in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve.

Fri. 6th. Bright and warm and very dry. Dud still sick. Willie didn't work today. I planted some more Irish potatotes in cucumber patch in morn and finished all of patch. Willie and Wiley and Seymour cut a bee tree in eve. Cap D brought Nellie home in morn. We tried to get a bucket out of well in eve but didn't.

Sat. 7th. Bright and warm till 4 in eve and a thunder cloud came up from SE at 4 1/2 or 5 and we had a good hard shower (enough to make ground muddy) and very much needed too. Willie and Marion drove Sandy to town and back in morn. I planted canteloupe patch in field in Irish potatoes by 10 in morn and got wood and water and fed in eve. Willie rode Maud Est and salted our cattle on creek in eve.

Sun. 8th. Bright and warm and thundershowers passed around some in eve but none here. Willie rode Sandy to Tom's in morn and returned at dark. Wiley and Bernice went in buggy to Jack D's in morn and Rena and her other children dined here. Minnie and children walked to SS in eve.

Mon. 9th. Bright and warm and no rain near. Willie tore down old barn in morn and I moved all of bbls out of it into new barn and Willie and I packed in 2 s'ks of new corn (our first) to feed to hogs - our old corn is nearly out. Nora and Anita Netterville and Clarence here most of day and Carmel went home with them in eve and returned before sunset.

Tue. 10th. Bright and warm all morn and cloudy all eve and rained around some but only dropped a little here. Willie cut bushes and briars in pasture in morn and helped Wiley to take roof off old house in N corner of our calf pasture in eve. I hoed onions in NW corner of garden early in morn and brought in 4 buckets of tomatoes in 2 turns by 11 1/4 in morn and shucked corn and drew water for washing in eve.

Wed. 11th. It rained in thunder showers at 3 to 7 in morn - a good soaking rain in all and much needed too - and bright and pleasant after 8 in morn. Willie cut briars in pasture in morn and I brought in some okra and tomatoes by 10 in morn. Katie and Annabel James came late yesterday eve and here today and at night again.

Thu. 12th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie cut down china trees on S side of cow pen in morn. I gathered 3 p'ks of sweet pears and 3 of apple pears and got Sandy from pasture and carried all of the pears and one p'k of mellow ones to Mrs. Lanehart and returned at 10 1/2. Minnie and Katie James went in Katie's buggy to town in morn and returned at 3 in eve with some ice and we had ice cream in eve. Wiley and family and Nora and Clarence and a young preacher named Easterling all here in eve.

Fri. 13th. Bright and warm and no rain near but thundered far off in eve. Willie cut china trees in morn and I hoed tomatoes in field in morn and picked some dry beans in eve. Katie James and Marion went to town in eve and returned at dusk. Carmel and Annabel and Bernice drove Sandy to Ogden's and back in eve.

Sat. 14th. Bright and very warm all morn and clouded up at 1 in eve and we had a good soaking rain at 2 to 4 in eve with some little wind and thunder. I hoed tomatoes in field in morn and brought home 1/2 bu of tomatoes at 10 1/4 in morn. Katie and Annabel James left in morn.

Sun. 15th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and wind from E and no rain today, but rained a little late in night. Willie and Minnie and children went to SS in eve and Bro Ellis preached there. Wiley took Willie and Minnie to town at 1 in night to go to N.O. Mon. 16th. Cloudy all day and a wind from E all day and night too and began to rain slowly at 9 in morn and rained a big one at 11 to 12 and sprinkled some at eve and at night too. Wiley took Willie and Minnie to town at 1 in night to go to N.O. Marion and I brought 1 bu of big tomatoes from patch by 9 1/2 in morn and got nearly wet in rain and we packed in 5 turns of corn from patch E of here in eve and I shucked the corn.

Tue. 17th. Cloudy and a wind from SE all day and high at times and sprinkled rain several times in eve. I gathered some sweet pears for Nellie to preserve early in morn and cut up some wood and packed 6 turns of corn from patch E of here by 11 1/4 and shucked the corn in eve and got wood and water and fed and helped Carmel to milk.

Wed. 18th. Cloudy and windy from E of S and sprinkled rain most of eve and quit after sunset. Marion and I brought nearly 1 bu of big tomatoes from field early in morn (after I got wood for Leah to wash). Nellie canned the tomatoes and some apple pears today. Marion and I packed some corn from patch E of here by 11 in morn and I shucked the corn by 12. Dud drove Wiley's mule and buggy and led Julia (mule) to meet Willie and Minnie in town and they got home at midnight from N.O.

Thu. 19th. Cloudy and windy from S and began to rain in showers at 11 1/2 in morn and lasted all eve and till in the night with some thunder. Willie took Wiley's mule and buggy home early in morn. Marion and I brought in corn early in morn after I cut up wood and I shucked the corn and brought some okra from patch by 11 1/2.

Fri. 20th. Bright and pleasant from S of W till late in eve and we had a hard rain here at dusk from W. Willie patched road near Lewis' field in morn and he rode Sandy to Bro Tom's in eve and returned after dark. Cap D came in morn at 11 and took Nellie back with him just after dinner - little Hattie is sick but better today. Marion and I brought home 3 1/2 p'ks of tomatoes in morn and I carried 1/2 bu to Wiley's by 11 1/4 in morn. Minnie and children and I got wet at cow pen at dusk.

Sat. 21st. Bright and warm and no rain here but a shower passed around S of here from SW at 3 1/2 in eve. Willie drove Sandy to town in morn. I cut up wood and got okra and brought 1/2 bu of tomatoes from field and Marion and Buddy and I brought in corn from patch E of here in morn. West and Lillie and their 2 children came late in eve and here all night.

Sun. 22nd. Bright and warm in morn and rained around in little showers in eve and we had a little rain here. West and wife and children left at 10 1/2 in morn. Cap D brought Nellie home at 10 1/2 in morn. None went to SS in eve. Nellie and Charles and Carl walked to Wiley's in eve.

Mon. 23rd. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy and thundered around some in eve but no rain here. Marion rode Sandy to Ogden's early in morn and got a file and left it at Lewis' to sharpen Willie's saw and Marion carried some pears to Mrs. Lanehart and some to Cousin Mary on Sandy by 10 1/2. I gathered the pears and some for Minnie to preserve and brought 1/2 bu of tomatoes from field on Sandy by 11 1/2. Willie and Dud sawed down a red oak in hollow in NE corner of oat patch and sawed it up for boards today.

Tue. 24th. Bright and warm and no rain here but thunder showers in sight in eve. Willie and Dud sawed and bolted board timbers today out N of oat patch. Martin C came in morn and got some pears. I gathered last of apple pears and sweet ones in morn.

Wed. 25th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud sawed board timber today. Marion and Buddy and I carried one bu of tomatoes to Wiley's early in morn. Nellie at Lanehart's most of day and Mrs. Lanehart gave birth to a girl today and some of her children here most of day and Joe Miller dined here and got some pears.

Thu. 26th. Bright and warm and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud and Marion tried all morn to get somne of Lanehart's pigs out of our field but didn't and they stopped all of pig holes too and Willie and Dud sawed board timbers in eve. I hoed part of Irish potatoes in cucumber patch in morn and got okra and shucked corn in eve.

Fri. 27th. Bright in morn and cloudy in eve and thundered in W late in eve. Willie and Lanehart and Clarence and Marion tried most of morn to get pigs out of our field and Willie and Dud sawed board timber in eve. I hoed Irish potatoes in canteloupe patch in morn and shucked corn and picked some dry butter beans in eve.

Sat. 28th. It began to rain slowly at daylight and lasted till 9 in morn - a pretty good rain and needed too - and bright after 10 in morn. Willie and Marion and Lanehart hunted pigs in our field early in morn in rain and got wet but they didn't find any pigs. I rode Sandy and brought home 3 buckets of tomatoes in morn and Nellie and Minnie canned them. Willie drove Sandy to town in eve.

Sun. 29th. Bright in morn and a thunder cloud came up from W of N at 3 1/2 in eve and we had a good rain till 4. I rode Sandy in field in morn and brought home a bucket of tomatoes. Lewis here awhile in morn. Nellie and Bernice drove Wiley's mule to our buggy and Wiley rode his young mare to Jack D's in morn and returned late in eve. Gordon dined here today.

Mon. 30th. Cloudy some all day and cool from N and no rain in sight. Willie and Dud rived boards today out N of oat patch. I hoed over Irish potatoes in garden in morn to make them come u
