AUGUST 1893

Tue. Aug. 1st. Cloudy some all day and thundered around at 2 to 5 but only sprinkled here. Dixie and I drove Hattie to Camp meeting early in morn and brought Rena back at 5 1/2 in eve. Willie Tabor and Mattie McNamar came early in morn and W.T went on to Jackson.

Wed. 2nd. Bright and warm till 2 1/2 and rained a little shower here at 2 to 3 1/2. I plowed 5 rows of bunch - yam slips in cut by front gate on east side and replowed ground for Irish potatoes in NE corner of orchard in morn and did nothing in eve. Dan here in eve.

Thu. 3rd. Bright and warm all morn and cloudy and thundered around most of eve but only dropped rain here. Pa and I planted some Irish potatoes in NE corner of orchard in morn. Willie rode Salome to Camp meeting in morn and returned at dusk. I didn't work in eve - only got ready to go to Camp meeting tomorrow.

Mon. 7th. Bright and warm and rained a little shower at 5 to 6 in eve. We didn't work any but all of us went to Lewis' at 11 in morn and again at night. Lewis Miller and Scott Newman dined here today and stayed all night here.

Tue. 8th. Bright and warm till 3 and cloudy all balance of eve but didn't rain. I drove Hattie to buggy to Clara's in morn and brought her and children here and she joined the church and she and her 3 children were baptised at Lewis' at 11 o'clock service and she and her 3 children and Gordon and Scott Newman dined here. Willie Tabor came back from Jackson at 1 and brought his sister Sallie and took Mattie McNamar home from here in eve. All of us at Lewis' to preaching at night and meeting closed.

Wed. 9th. Bright and warm in morn and we had a heavy rain from NE at 4 to 6 in eve. I replowed some ground in orchard for turnips in morn with Hattie and Pa and Willie scraped some slips there. Dan and Mary Fugler came at 11 1/2 and stayed all night.

Thu. 10th. Bright and warm and no rain but rained S of here in eve. We didn't work any on account of wet ground. I fixed spring and got some wood and corn in morn and Nellie rode Hattie and I Salome to Clara's in eve. Dan and Mary Fugler went to Seymour's from here in morn.

Fri. 11th. Bright and warm and no rain here but rained W and NW of here in eve. Pa, Willie and I finished scraping slips in orchard in morn and Nellie rode Hattie and I Salome to Alice's in eve.

Sat. 12th. Bright and warm in morn and cloudy and rained a slow shower in eve at 3 1/2 and again at 4 1/2 till 9 at night. I drove Hattie to cart to Cohen's in morn and got a bbl meal and 10 pds coffee and 2 prs shoes and some other things and returned at 11 and I got some corn and wood in eve. Willie rode Salome fox hunting in morn and they caught one. Pa walked to Clara's in eve and didn't come back on account of rain.

Sun. 13th. Cloudy most of day but sun shined some and rained in showers most of day. Mrs. M.A. Miller and Sallie Tabor dined here and Dan, Lewis and Seymour and Sims here in eve. Mrs. Miller stayed all night and Sallie T. went to Lewis' late in eve (she has been here since last Tues).

Mon. 14th. Cloudy and wet and rained in slow showers some in morn and some in eve. I rode Hattie to Stewart place in morn and saw Preston Veal about boring a well and I rode Salome to Cohen's in eve and got Cohen to order some curbing for a well.

Tue. 15th. Cloudy and rained in showers some in morn and some in eve and ground very wet. Pa and I stopped pig-holes all around our calf pasture in morn and we put our 2 half Chester sow pigs in there in eve. Willie hunting most of day. I rode Hattie down in cow pasture in eve and saw colts. Mrs. Miller still here and Sallie Tabor here all day but went back to Lewis' again late in eve.

Wed. 16th. Bright and warm and no rain today. Gussie took Mrs. Miller home in morn. Sallie T here all day and night. Pa and I hoed some in sugar cane in morn. I turned down tops of most of cut of corn by front gate on west side in eve. Willie hunting in morn. I had a dull pain in right side of my head all day and took 2 doses of Aquecure - one at noon and one at night and it worked me in night some.

Thu. 17th. Bright and warm and no rain. Lewis took Sallie Tabor home in morn from here. Pa and I hoed some in sugar cane in morn and we drove Hattie to Turnbull's to Primary meeting in eve and home before sunset. Willie went fox hunting in morn early and he and Bud came back at 12 3/4.

Fri. 18th. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and a dark cloud passed around east from NE but only sprinkled here at 3 1/2. I plowed out slip potatoes in NE side of orchard in morn with Hattie and Pa hoed in cane in morn and he rode Hattie to Alice's in eve. Willie and I removed clothesline to NW corner of yard in eve. I have been taking Aquecure for 3 days and it worked me too much in eve and at night.

Sat. 19th. Bright and warm and no rain. I replowed some ground in orchard for turnips in morn with Hattie and Willie rode Salome fox hunting in morn and they caught one. I rode Salome to town and back by Cohen's in eve. I got bottle of fever mixture refilled and got 1/2 pd of turnip seed on account at Adams' and saw that our well curbing had come (at Cohen's).

Sun. 20th. Bright and pleasant and no rain. All of us home in morn and all but Pa went to Lewis' and had SS in eve. Tony Roberts came back from Jackson with Lewis yesterday eve and here today and at night.

Mon. 21st. Bright and pleasant (a little cool) from N and no signs of rain. I rode Salome to Cohen's in morn by 11 and Lewis hauled our well curbing and bucket and rope and some nails from there by 11. I rode Salome to Stewart place in eve and saw Preston Veal. I stopped awhile at Primm's. Bud and Tigner and Lewis here awhile in eve. Pa finished hoeing sugar cane today.

Tue. 22nd. Clear and pleasant from N. I planted turnips in orchard and hoed some of late Irish potatoes there in morn. Mary N and Clara here awhile in eve. Pa at Clara's all day.

Wed. 23rd. Bright and warmer today. I packed wood and water and brought in some corn and cut down 2 peach trees in morn and hoed and finished Irish potatoes in orchard in eve. A big crowd were all around here fox hunting in morn at 7 to 8 1/2 and Willie with them. Mrs. Morris and Mattie here all day. Bud dined here.

Thu. 24th. Bright and warm from SE. Willie and I cut and split some poplar rails and put up a frame on end of Pa's gallery for cotton in morn and we cleaned out cotton house in eve and picked some cotton on H ridge in eve. Pa picked cotton in new SW corner all day.

Fri. 25th. Bright and warm. I picked cotton on H ridge in morn and Willie picked there in eve and Pa picked in new SW corner all day. Willie went fox hunting in morn. I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve.

Sat. 26th. Bright and quite warm. I picked cotton on H ridge till 9 1/2 in morn and lay down with headache till 12 1/2 and it got better and left me in eve. I had it since noon yesterday but didn't vomit any. Willie went fox hunting in morn and Tony Roberts and Florida Floyd went with him and both dined here. Bud here in eve.

Sun. Aug. 27th. Bright and warm and no rain. Dixie and Rena drove Gussie's horse to our buggy and Gussie and Tony Roberts rode horseback to Haye's Chapel in morn and returned at 8 1/2 at night. Nellie and I rode on horseback to Clara's in eve. Mary and Tigner left there in eve.

Mon. 28th. Bright and warm most of day and showered around some in eve but none here. Willie picked cotton all day on H ridge and Pa on new SW corner. I rode Salome to see Preston Veal early in morn and he brought his boring machinery here at 12 1/4 but didn't work any. I rode Hattie to Stewart place to get 3 pigs from Iler

Bethley (in eve late) but didn't get them.

Tue. 29th. Bright and cool from N and dry. Robert and Preston Veal came early in morn and Bud, Lewis and Seymour and we began and bored all day on well and got down about 26 feet. Pa picked cotton in new SW corner all day.

Wed. 30th. Bright and pleasant and dry from N. Bud, Lewis and R and P Veal here all day boring well and we struck water late in eve at 56 feet. Pa picked cotton all day.

Thu. 31st. Bright and pleasant and dry. Lewis and R and P Veal here all day and Bud and Ray here in eve. We put curbing together and got it in well by 12 and pumped all eve in clay and sand and water but didn't get curbing down well. Pa picked cotton all day.
