AUGUST 1890

Fri. Aug. 1st. Bright and warm most of day and only sprinkled here at 4 in eve. Pa, Willie and I hoed cotton in Persimmon cut most of morn and Pa and Willie again in eve. I drove Hattie to Cohen's in buggy in eve and got some things. I had dull headache all eve and all night. Miss Hayes went home on Wednesday last and didn't teach Thursday and Friday.

Sat. 2nd. Bright and warm till 5 and we had a heavy rain from SE. till 6 1/2. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in Persimmon cut most of morn. I arose vomiting in morn and lay in bed till 12 and got better by 2. Bill Miller here awhile late in eve from Lewis'.

Sun. 3rd. Bright and warm till 3 in eve and we had a long shower till 5 from SE. None of us went to Sunday School. Dixie went to Lewis's in morn and Bill Miller here most of day. Pa at Dick's

most of day. Bud came at 2; went to Dick's at 6 and came back at dark and here all night.

Mon. 4th. Bright and warm and no rain. Bud left early in morn. Pa and I hoed in the new ground cotton W of Cherry cut most of day. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Tue. 5th. Bright, warm and no rain. Pa and I finished hoeing cotton W of Cherry cut in morn by 11 1/4 and we hoed in Persimmon cut by Cherry stump all eve. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Wed. 6th. Bright and warm till 4 1/2 in eve and a cloud came up from E but only sprinkled here. Pa and I finished hoeing Persimmon cut of cotton by 11 in morn and we cut tops off of all of cut of corn by front gate on W side in eve. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Thu. 7th. Bright and warm most of morn and cloudy and thundershowers passed around in eve and rained a slow shower here at 4 1/2 to 6 but only enough to run off house. Pa and I hoed cotton by front gate on E side till 5 in eve and rain stopped us. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Fri. 8th. Bright and warm most of day and sprinkled little in eve. Pa and I finished hoeing cotton by front gate on E side by 10 1/2 in morn. I drove Hattie to Cohen's in buggy in eve and carried some figs and peach tomatoes to them and got some things and returned before sunset. Uncle Gus came here from Lewis's and here all night. Willie and Rena went to school all week.

Sat. 9th. Bright and warm and no rain. Nellie and Rena drove Larry to buggy and I rode Hattie and spent day with the Millers' at Mrs Glass'. Uncle Gus went home from here in morn.

Sun. 10th. Bright and warm most of day and thundershowers passed around late in eve but none here. None of us went to Sunday School - all home in morn. Dick D dined here. Willie and I walked to Dick's in eve.

Mon. 11th. Bright and warm and no rain and getting dry. Pa and I hoed in sugar cane all morn and hoed some cotton on H ridge top and in cane bottom in eve. Willie and Rena went to school.

Tue. 12th. Bright and not warm much from NE but dry. Pa and I hoed sugar cane in morn and broke tops off of part of Gate cut of corn in eve. Willie and Rena went to school.

Wed. 13th. Bright, warm and dry. Pa and I hoed sugar cane in morn and we made a pig pen in cow pen and put Dixie's pig in from 3 to 4 1/2 and finished breaking tops of corn and finished Gate cut by 5 1/2. Pa and I picked 7 pds of cotton in oat grounds by road late in eve and 18 pds on yesterday eve.

Thu. 14th. Bright, warm and dry. Pa and I hoed in sugar cane in morn and Pa picked some cotton (28 pds) in eve. I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve. Nellie rode Larry to Mr. D Chambers' in eve. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Fri. 15th. Bright and quite warm and dry - thundered around in eve. Pa and I hoed and finished sugar cane by 10 1/2 in morn. I walked to Dick's in eve and carried some figs, tomatoes and milk. Pa picked some cotton in eve. Cousin Dosia and Dixie drove Larry to our buggy and Willie rode Hattie to Tigners' and Joe Millers' in morn.

Sat. 16th. Bright and quite warm all morn and we had 2 or 3 good showers from N at 1 to 3 1/2 in eve - enough to wet ground well. I rode Salome and little mule followed (first time) to town and saw Dr. McGehee about Ma and got some medicine for her and came back by Dick's and home by 11. Pa went to Morgan's to measure land and back by 2.

Sun. 17th. Bright and warm and no rain. None of us went to Sunday School. Nellie and Rena walked to Dick's in morn and there all day. I carried some peach tomatoes to Mr. Sims at 8 1/2 to 10. Pup had frothing of mouth in morn and I chained him. I made coffee and Pa and I dined by ourselves. Pa went to Dick's in eve and left me alone. Clarissa here in eve.

Mon. 18th. Bright, warm and thundershowers passed around in eve but none here. Pa and I hoed some cotton on bank by new road and finished last of our cotton by 8 1/2 in morn and we picked cotton most of day on H ridge. Cousin Dosia, Dixie and Willie and Bud got home from Tigner's at 11 1/4 and all dined here. Bud stayed all night.

Tue. 19th. Bright and warm most of day and we had a good little shower from SE at 3 in eve. Pa and I picked cotton most of morn in old oat patch by new road. We didn't do much in eve on account of rain. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Wed. 20th. Bright and warm all day and thundershowers passed around in eve but none here. Pa and I cut down some ground in back of Pine corner for turnips in morn and picked cotton all eve and finished H ridge. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Thu. 21st. Bright and warm all day and thundershowers passed around some in eve but none here. Pa and I cleared ground for turnips in back of Pine corner most of morn. Pa picked cotton in Cane hollow in eve and I drove Hattie to buggy to Cohen's in eve and back at sunset. Willie and Rena went to school today.

Fri. 22nd. Cloudy and a thundercloud came up from W at 9 in morn and we had a good soaking rain till 11 and needed. Willie and Rena did not go to school. Pa, Willie and I cleared some in turnip patch some in morn and most of eve. Joe Miller, Rosa and Maggie came late in eve and Rosa and Maggie stayed here all night and Joe went to Lewis'.

Sat. 23rd. Bright and nearly clear and pleasant - no rain. Pa, Willie and I finished cutting down turnip patch in back of Pine corner by 10 1/2 in morn. Dixie, Rena, Rosa and Maggie Miller went to Mr. Wesley Chambers (at Graves' place) and there all day. Rosa, Maggie and Rena stayed all night at Lewis's and Joe stayed here.

Sun. 24th. Bright and warm all morn - cloudy and thundershowers passed around most of eve and rained slowly here at 3 to 4 but not enough to run off house good. Joe Miller and his 2 girls here till 4 in eve and they left for home. None of us went to Sunday School but all home all day. Cousin Dosia here all eve.

Mon. 25th. Bright and quite warm most of day and rained a little shower at 1 from S. Pa and I picked cotton most of morn and I most of eve on H ridge. Nellie rode Hattie to Dick's in eve. Pa walked to Alice's at McDonald's. Willie and Rena went to school today.
