APRIL 1915

Thu. Apr. 1st. Bright in morn and cool and cloudy all eve and a very cool wind from E of N and began to rain at dusk and lasted till after midnight - a good soaking rain. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I cleared up new ground for okra in NE corner of patch E of here in morn and hoed some in garden in eve.

Fri. 2nd. Cloudy and chilly from N all day. Willie sick and didn't work. Dud cleaned up ground today. I cut down new ground in NE corner of patch E of here in morn and finished and hoed up some of it in eve.

Sat. 3rd. Bright and a cold wind from N all day. Willie and Dud broke ground in morn and Willie drove Sandy to town in eve. I was sick all last night and took one Lane's pill early in morn which worked me well today and I dug up ground for okra in NE corner of patch E of here in morn.

Sun. 4th. Bright, nearly clear, and a frost and slight freeze in morn and cool wind from S all day and warmer in eve. Willie and Carmel and Marion walked to SS in eve and Nellie and I walked to Wiley's in eve. Bernice sick in bed but better in eve.

Mon. 5th. Bright and pleasant from S all day. Willie and Dud broke ground today. I finished hoeing up okra patch in NE corner of patch E of here in morn and planted some of it in eve.

Tue. 6th. Bright but some clouds all day and pleasant from S. Willie and Marion and Dud planted corn today and they fixed water gaps on creek at 1 to 3 in eve. Our hogs have been getting out. I planted okra in morn and finished our patch and I shucked corn and shelled some seed corn in eve.

Wed. 7th. Bright, but some clouds, and pleasant from S. Willie and Marion and Dud planted corn today. I hoed lettuce and onions and mustard in garden in morn and in eve too and got wood for Leah to wash early in morn.

Thu. 8th. Bright and pleasant from S and dry. Willie and Dud and Marion planted corn till late in eve and finished 2nd -------. I hoed Irish potatoes and strawberries in garden in morn.

Fri. 9th. Bright, but cloudy some, and pleasant from S. Willie cleaned up ground in field and Dud barred off cane stubble in patch E of here with mules in morn and broke ground in Sims' bottom in eve. I hoed peas and winter onions in garden in morn and patched a pair of pants in eve.

Sat. 10th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and pleasant from S and clouded up from NW at 9 at night and lightning in that direction and rained slowly here awhile. Dud broke ground in morn and Willie rode Maud Est to hunt cattle early in morn and he and I planted some pole and butter beans on hilltop of H ridge at 9 1/2 to 10 1/2. I hoed strawberries in garden and finished them by 9 1/2 in morn. I got a sack of pine straw in field in eve.

Sun. 11th. It rained enough last night to wet top of ground and cloudy and calm today. Wiley went to his Pa's in morn and Rena and children dined here and Buddy and Hattie and their 2 children too. Mon. 12th. Bright and warm and dry from N. Dud plowed up tomatoe patch in Sims' bottom early in morn and broke ground in bottom balance of day. Willie cleaned off ground and worked our ditches there today. I cut down some new ground W of tomatoe patch in morn and burned off some of it in eve.

Tue. 13th. Bright, nearly clear, and dry from E of N. Dud sick and didn't work today. Willie broke ground in Sims' bottom with the mules in morn and finished the last of breaking and he ran cultivator between rows of Irish potatoes in NE corner of oat patch N of here in eve. I cleaned up some ground W of tomatoe patch and planted some cucumbers there in morn and shelled some seed corn in eve.

Wed. 14th. Bright, nearly clear, and dry from NE. Dud still sick and didn't work. Willie hoed Irish potatoes in NE part of oat patch today. I planted some sweet corn in garden early in morn and got wood and water for Leah to wash and cut up some wood in morn.

Thu. 15th. Bright, nearly clear, and dry from N. Willie hoed Irish potatoes in morn and finished and barred off corn in Gate cut with Julia (mule) in eve. Dud still sick. I dug up ground on W side of tomatoe patch and planted some onion seed and eggplant seed in morn and shelled some seed corn in eve.

Fri. 16th. Bright and dry. Dud still sick. Willie barred off corn today. I planted some tomatoes and pepper in field in morn and shelled some seed corn in eve.

Sat. 17th. Bright and dry. Willie and Carmel drove Sandy to town in morn and returned at 1 in eve and Willie rode Sandy to buy cattle in eve. I put ashes on bush beans in garden and hoed them and the 4 rows of Irish potatoes there too in morn.

Sun. 18th. Bright and dry. Willie and I walked to Wiley's and back in morn. Jack D there. Bernice and little Wiley and Gladys Seward dined here. All went to SS in eve (but Carl and me) and Bro Ellis preached there.

Mon. 19th. Bright, but cloudy some, and a damp wind from SW and appearance of rain. Willie and Dud barred off cotton today. I hoed up some ground in field and planted some tomatoes and bell pepper there in morn and shelled some seed corn in eve.

Tue. 20th. Cloudy all day and rained around in thunder showers from SW at 9 1/2 to 12 and we had slow showers at 2 to 4 1/2 in eve and a big soaking rain at 5 to 6 1/2 and much needed. Willie and Dud barred off corn in morn and till 5 1/2 in eve and got nearly wet. I removed the mules feed boxes from old barn to E side of new barn in morn and patched up calf pasture fence early in morn too and I got wood and water and fed in eve and got nearly wet.

Wed. 21st. Bright and warm from S and no rain. Willie and Dud fixed water gaps on creek early in morn and Dud scraped cane stubble in patch E of here till 12 and Willie put some old hoes on handles and they barred off corn in eve. I cut up wood early in morn and got wood for Leah to wash and hoed around some peach trees in patch E of here in eve and planted some quince seed there.

Thu. 22nd. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and no rain and pleasant from S. Dud barred off cotton all day and finished first planting. Willie and some hands hoed corn today. I planted some tomatoes and cantelopes in Sims' bottom in morn and shelled some seed corn in eve and hoed around 2 peach trees.

Fri. 23rd. Cloudy some, but bright, and a pleasant wind from S all day. Willie and Dud and some hands hoed corn all day and finished first planting after sunset. I hoed potatoes and onions and some of peas in garden in morn and thinned okra in eve.

Sat. 24th. Bright and windy and pleasant from S all day. Willie ran cultivator in Irish potatoes in NE corner of oat patch in morn and Dud hoed cane stubble. They elected Miss Flinn as teacher at 11 in morn. I hoed in garden till 10 in morn and finished there. Miss Mittie Fugler came at 11 in morn and stayed here at night. Willie drove Sandy to town in eve.

Sun. 25th. Bright and windy and pleasant from S. Miss Mittie left at 10 in morn and Carmel went home with her. Willie and Marion went to SS in eve. I packed some stove wood early in morn and shucked corn by 11 1/2.

Mon. 26th. Bright and pleasant from S. Willie and Dud barred off corn in patch E of here and finished there and they barred off in field in eve. I planted some Stone tomatoes in field early in morn and hoed around hill of beans on hilltop of H ridge by 11 in morn. I planted 2 more rows of beans there and hoed around hills of watermelons in eve.

Tue. 27th. Bright and warm from NW. Willie and Dud barred off corn today. I hoed cucumbers in Sims' bottom in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn in eve.

Wed. 28th. Bright, but cloudy some all day, and thundered around far off in morn and in eve too but only dropped a little here in morn. Willie and Dud barred off corn today. I set out a few cabbage plants in garden and hoed around and thinned the 4 rows of sweet corn there by 9 1/2 in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn by 12 and some in eve too.

Thu. 29th. Bright, but some clouds, and dry from NW and warm. Willie and Dud barred off corn all morn and finished 2nd planting and Marion helped them to plant 2nd planting of corn in eve. I got wood and drew water for Leah to wash early in morn but she didn't come and Minnie washed some. I cut briars and weeds out of plum thicket by hen shed in morn and shucked and shelled some bread corn in morn and in eve too.

Fri. 30th. Bright and warm and dry and rained a sprinkle in night. Willie and Dud and Marion planted corn today. I deadened some bay trees in patch E of here near okra patch in morn and hoed some of okra in eve.
