Sun. Apr. 5th. Clear and a killing freeze in morn and N wind all day. All of us home all day. Newman, Maggie Miller, Seymour and Bud here.
Mon. 6th. Clear and a killing freeze in morn but wind from S and warmer in eve. Newman and Maggie left in morn. Willie and I planted Fishburn cotton most of day in Pine corner and SW of Cherry cut. Pa picked up roots and little stumps most of day. Nellie and Rena walked to Clara's in eve.
Tue. 7th. Cloudy and warmer from SW. Rained in slow showers at 12 to 3 1/2. I finished planting cotton W of Cherry cut early in morn. Harrowed cut by front gate on W side and planted it in Southern Hope cotton and harrowed old oat ground cut where we changed road by 12. Planted it in Southern Hope cotton at 3 1/4 to 5 3/4 in eve and got nearly wet in rain. Pa and Willie planted cotton most of day with hoes in their new ground.
Wed. 8th. Bright and pleasant from SW. Pa and Willie planted cotton with hoes all day in big Cane hollow. I harrowed all of Gate cut once to row and planted little of it with Salome in Southern Hope cotton in morn and planted all rows there with Hattie. Lewis brought a little Filbert tree with some flowers to Nellie (from J Lewis Childs') from Cohen's late in eve.
Thu. 9th. Bright but cloudy and warm from SW. Thundershowers passed around some in eve and rained here at 2 1/2. Pa and Willie planted cotton all day in Big Cane hollow with hoes. I finished planting cotton at far end of Gate cut with Hattie by 9 1/4 in morn and put out some fertilizer on poor S end of Gate cut and broke up some there till 3 1/2 in eve and planted all of that I broke in cotton by late in eve (with Hattie).
Fri. 10th. We had slow showers till 9 in morn and heavy rain from NW at 10 and bright in eve. We did nothing on account of rain and wet. Willie, Rena and I shelled some whip peas for planting at 7 to 8 1/2. I rode Salome to Cohen's in eve and got some things and returned before sunset.
Sat. 11th. Bright and pleasant. Pa and Willie cut down some of old peach trees in orchard and I set out some young peach trees and broke up all of E side of orchard in rows with Hattie. Alec Newell brought a sack of meal and 2 sacks of oats for us from Cohen's in eve. Pa and Willie walked to Clara's in eve. I planted beans, okra and Mastodon corn in Cane hollow corner of H ridge all eve.
Sun. 12th. Bright and pleasant form SW. Bud, Dan, Seymour and Gussie here a while in morn. Mrs Mabry Morris and Mattie came at 10 1/2 and Mrs M and Nellie went in buggy and Willie and I walked to Clara's in eve and back home before sunset.
Mon. 13th. Bright, but cloudy some from SW and damp SW wind in eve. Pa and Willie replanted corn all day with hoes. I harrowed all of H ridge once to row with Salome by 10 1/2 and Mr. Morris came then in buggy and got about 1 1/2 bushels of potatoes to plant. I finished breaking last of cotton ground on poor E end of Gate cut and planted it in Southern Hope cotton in eve with Hattie. Cousin Nannie came here from Lewis's late in eve and stayed all night.
Tue. 14th. Bright and warm from SW. I planted Fishburn cotton on H ridge and finished that cut (about 2 acres) by 3 1/2 in eve. Willie sowed seed for me in eve. He and Pa finished replanting the last of our corn in morn. I harrowed all of pea patch on poor NE end of Cherry cut twice to row and Pa and Willie planted part of it in whip peas late in eve. (I worked Hattie all day.)
Wed. 15th. Bright and warm from S. Pa and Willie finished planting poor NE end of Cherry cut in Welborn peas and Whip peas by 8 1/2 in morn. Pa rescraped and hilled Irish potatoes in orchard balance of day. I harrowed all of Cherry cut (2 acres) once to row with Salome.
Thu. 16th. Cloudysome but bright and warm from SW. I barred off all of planted cane on W side of orchard and part of stubble cane in NE corner of new ground till 11 and Pa and Willie scraped all of planted and some of stubble in morn. Pa, Willie and I walked to V. Conners burying in eve.
Fri. 17th. Bright and warm from SW. I finished barring off cane stubble by 8 3/4 and Pa, Willie and I finished scraping all by 11 1/4. Pa, Willie and Rena went fishing on Bayou Sara creek in eve. I hoed all eve in Cane hollow in SE circle of H ridge hoeing beans and watermelon.
Sat. 18th. Bright and warm from S. I rode Salome by Cohen's and on to town and got some things for us and Ma and home by 12 1/2. Rena and I set out some onions and planted some butter beans, radishes and yellow tomatoes in garden on SE side of H ridge.
Sun. 19th. Bright, warm and dry with a SE wind all day. All home all day but Dixie. She went with Gussie in buggy (and Larry) to Bank Fugler's on yesterday and came back at 12 tonight. Bud and Florida Floyd here most of day.
Mon. 20th. Bright and warm from S and getting dry. We began to work our corn early in morn. I plowed Salome most of day and barred off cut by front gate on E side and little patch by old road and SE circle on H ridge and some on Persimmon cut and Pa and Willie hoed and kept nearly up with me. Mr. Womack and Miss Augusta Ferguson here at 10 to 11 1/2 in morn and got a few potatoes to plant.
Tue. 21st. Bright, warm and dry from SW but thundered in W late in eve and not far off. I barred off cotton all day with Salome in Persimmon cut and some in pine corner. Pa and Willie hoed all day. Mr. Bank Fugler came at 11 1/2 to 1 1/2 and got some potatoes to plant.
Wed. 22nd. Cloudy and damp S wind and thundershowers passed around some in morn and some in eve and rained a slow rain here from 4 to 6 but not enough to wet ground much. I finished barring off Pine corner corn by 9 in morn and Cane hollow by 4 in eve and last of our corn with Salome. Pa and Willie finished hoeing Pine corner corn by 4 3/4 in eve. Harrell, a book agent, here at 1 to 2 and Mr. Bank Fugler came at 2 1/4 and brought Miss Ida and she stayed all night.
Thu. 23rd. Bright and cool from N. Pa, Willie and I hoed all of Cane hollow cut of corn and finished last of our corn by 11 1/4. Pa and Willie hoed in their new ground cotton SW of Cherry cut all eve and I hoed in our garden on SE circle of H ridge all eve. Mr. Bank Fugler took Miss Ida home from here late in eve.
Fri. 24th. Bright and pleasant from N. Pa and Willie hoed all day in their new ground cotton SW of Cherry cut. I hoed most of morn in Cane hollow SE of H ridge and some in garden and some in corn planted there. Rena and I drove Salome to buggy (1st time) to Primm's in eve and got Nellie's wallpaper. I hoed some young fruit trees late in eve.
Sat. 25th. Bright, dry and pleasant from N. I drove Salome to buggy to town and back by Cohen's by 1. I had headache all morn and began to vomit at 12 1/4 and laid down all eve and vomited all eve and all night. I saw Dr McGehee about my headaches and got some medicine from Adam's for it.
Sun. 26th. Bright and pleasant but dry. The headache left me in morn. Miss Katie Fugler and Gussie here all day. I rode Salome to Clara's in eve.
Mon. 27th. Clear and pleasant but dry. I hoed corn in Cane hollow on SE corner of H ridge most of day and Pa and Willie hoed cotton in big Cane hollow all day. Hattie gave birth to a dark mare colt last night.
Tue. 28th. Clear, cool and very dry from N. Pa and Willie hoed cotton in big Cane hollow all day. I finished hoeing Cane hollow corn on SE side of H ridge and hoed around some fruit trees in morn. I made 2 tall trussels for Nellie in eve. Mr. A E Fugler and Miss Mittie here a while in eve hunting for a school.
Wed. 29th. Clear, cool and dry from N. Pa and Willie hoed cotton all day in big Cane hollow. I hoed there in morn and rode Salome to schoolhouse in eve to see about school. Mrs Glass, Joel Glass and Misses Carrie and Grace Chambers here most of day.
Thu. 30th. Bright and dry, warmer and some clouds from SW. Pa and Willie hoed all day in big Cane hollow. I hoed there in morn and drove Salome to buggy to Cohen's in eve. Rollins Whetstone came late in eve and here all night.
